  • I don't know why I thought this was a good idea! Using a British Army Basha to assemble a makeshift tent on the Itiwit 3 Kayak in a rainstorm, attempt to camp on this solo overnight in the middle of the river! And then..water happened.

    Those Itiwit inflatables are great for sleeping on dry land.
    I’ve used the 1 seater and the 2 seater on grass bank and sandy beach in great comfort.
    As yours is probably over 14 kg you might lessen the weight and packing dimensions a couple of kgs with the floor taken out and left at home and just carry the rest of the boat.
    If you want the inflatable camped in water probably best use the drop stitch floor version.
    Great video all the same.
    I’ll keep watching your channel. Cheers 😮

    argh! what a way to wake up! Maybe something on the bottom of the river got your kayak after the tide went out?
    Next camp, has to give you a break!

      It was pretty brutal! Getting a puncture from some debris on the bottom of the river is a good point, best bet I reckon! I've pulled the kayak out now as I type this so going to see what it's all about! Fingers crossed for the next camp yes 😂😂 thanks for your comment Nikki, hope you are well!

      @@TreeDeepOutdoors I'm good, Thank-you! I hope you can get it patched up. It was a really good idea for a camp. I was trying to work out how it might have been more comfy / roomy. If ai come up with anything i'll let you know. Part of the reason I enjoy going stealth camping is because its a problem to solve, like how to get away with it, what shelter to take, whereby set up etc. I never usually film, but I've a pretty risky camp planned for the next time the wind comes from the east, I might have to at least try and film that one!

    • @TreeDeepOutdoors

      If you come up with anything absolutely let me know I'd love to hear it. The next time I do this kind of thing will probably be in a bigger boat, my brother's want to join me for a camp on the river so they are getting some 5 person dinghy thing, that would be more appropriate. Definitely need more of a strategic approach to a good old stealth camp! A risky camp you say! Area 51?! Whatever it be, I'd love to see it and would definitely watch it! Is there a reason the wind has to blow from the east? 😶

    • @TreeDeepOutdoors
      @TreeDeepOutdoors  Рік тому +1

      Checked out the coordinates - super creative Nikki! Requiring super strategy also I'd imagine! What would your set up be? Like a bivvy or?

    • @NikkiEvernight
      @NikkiEvernight Рік тому

      @@TreeDeepOutdoors Not 100% decided yet! Will depend on weather and where I think I can set up. The field with the lights is wide open with perimeter patrols, it will also be windy. Maybe a tarp, maybe a bug bivvy... we will see! Has to be an easterly because they'll approach across this field and they'll be very low. Usually they are taking off over this area but they are already quite high by the time the reach the lights. So, we will see, but that's the mission! :D

    another enjoyable adventure my man. Lots of opportunity to try this around the lakes here in N.I., I've done a bit of boating around Enniskillen lakes and islands, but never thought of camping in my boat! P.S. you should stick an ASMR tag on some of your videos, I personally find them relaxing.

    Let’s all just take a moment to appreciate the ball ache it must have been to get the shot going out into the water and then having to go back for the camera 😅🙌
    Edit: ok watched the rest of the video. That, was the least of your worries 😮

    The stove at 4:20 looks and sounds like it's getting fed liquid gas, and since it doesn't have a pre-heater loop, you get flare-ups. Might also explain why it doesn't shut down - there's still liquid gas in the hose that feeds the stove even when the valve's turned off. Especially since it seems to work ok the second time... those A4 butane canisters are picky about positioning especially when full - there's the L-shaped outlet tube inside the canister and if it's not facing up (as determined by the notch in the canister rim), you'll get liquid feed until the gas level drops enough for the tube head to clear the liquid level. EDIT: I'm fairly certain that it's the reason, at 4:55 it looks like the notch is facing almost downwards, which means that the outlet tube head inside the canister is probably under the liquid gas level.

    you could have saved a lot of para cord had you used tent pegs to fix your basha to your kayak.

    So many things are disturbing. To do this in a canoe, you really need two anchors. One fore and one aft. Set your first anchor and let it set against the current and wind. Then set your second anchor to stabilize your position. As far as your stove ... that was amazingly naive. If you insist on using a stove in your inflatable kayak, the least you could have done is to place a wide board across the gunnels as a table to raise it up off the floor. But why not use a military flame-less ration heater?

    Open fire on inflatable and also pretty flammable kayak, in middle of the river. That killed me :D . You got some guts XD . But this kind of construction could be extremely comfy tent version on the ground, for a night. Just pulling up kayak to the ground, taking off these three plastic things from bottom of kayak so they wont break (Btw I have same kayak already for a year, luckily no puncture for now.., but I am not so hardcore as You :D). Making that roof, and finally putting some air mattresses under the kayak, so we could remove any chance of it being punctured from ground.

    This type of gas cylinders has a gas fence pipe pressed to the wall at the side of cut on the disk at the output. If you want to receive only pure gas, without a liquid component, cut on the disk at the output must be upside.

    Now that's some sketchy stuff. From putting a sail on an inflatable kayak, to making uncontained fire in it and boiling water in there. It's very easy to accidentally bump a pot and have boiling water all over the place, I've seen this happen multiple times and it doesn't even require being on a rocky boat to happen. I can only imagine how bad would that end up being in such a setup. Anyway, this whole idea is both fun and terrible at the same time 😅 an inflatable boat would probably be better suited for a tent setup, as well as a different burner like trangia as it's base is stable and the pots / burner are essentially locked to it.

    I'm going to solve this for you, pal...look for a little polytunnel, metre high, 2 metres long, and tie it onto your itwit. Oh, and get a good tarp to put over the polytunnel cover itself...and bliss, pure bliss. No water, no worries, just a floating tent of relaxation. I should know, I do it. I got myself one of the little tunnels on the site that begins with A. For all of 25 quid.

    HVAC tech. Looks like your stove was slugging lquid gas instead of vapor. Heating the can or leveling the can might help
