I really liked your tutorials for IL-2 ... unfortunately that Sim didn't work for me, missed the clickable cockpits too much; so I'm glad to see that you are beginning to create DCS tutorials as well. Thanks a lot for that :)
Yeah the clickable pits are nice for all the procedural elements if you want to learn more detail about how you operate an aircraft. You should like what's coming :-)
Thank you for this! I have been playing DCS for a while now. Thought I knew most about the Tiger II but this video humbled me ;). Looking forward to the next video!
+1 I tought that I knew the F-5 pretty well, but watching this I learned that the speedbrakes don't extend as much when the ventral pylon is in use, that was new to me :)
Honestly I did consider using the F-86...but for someone's first jet I thought it was more appropriate to use the F-5. I'm sure I'll get to the F-86 one day ;-)
@@RequiemsACTL F-86 and MiG-15 are really nice models. Also the free A-4E Skyhawk would be a good one to cover before getting bogged down in the ultra complex modern jets
Would love some F-14B dogfighting guides that are more centric against how to fight specific planes like the mirage or 16. Or maybe dcs match up videos where two planes are pitted against each other and you analyse each jets strengths eand weaknesses in that fight.
As always, excellent instructional video series on the Tiger. Could you please do a similar series on the L-39 Albatros? Also including the different bombing and rocket emplyoment procedures and maneuvers. A side note: The "Krusant" campaign is very inspiring and teaches the basics of the weapon employment using bombing charts and fixed rexticles. Cheers and thank you for your tutorials!
@@RequiemsACTL thank you Requiem! Alternatively the C101 offers the same capabilities, is I believe the more modern trainer jet and has "eastern layout" cockpit and handling, if it appeals more to you.
Cheers Tim, I've actually had DCS for years, since LOMAC actually, but never bothered making videos for it as it was annoyingly difficult for me working with their replay system after getting used to the easiness I could use the Il-2 version. I figured out some content I thought would be useful for DCS people hence why you'll see some more DCS stuff in addition to Il-2 of course down the road
This is fantastic. I've become very accustomed to your style of your IL-2 videos and very much appreciate you making the jump over to DCS (even if your videos in DCS turn out to limited). Keep up the great work!
Cheers Brian, nice to know you like the style! The F-5 is kind of my test for DCS content. If people enjoy what I've made for it and want to see more then I will do other aircraft too. I already have a couple of other DCS airplanes in the works for what I'm doing, so we'll see how things pan out when the next video releases!
I was told about a cockpit retexture for the F-5 is available but I figured I should show it in its natural state. It really is a great jet to fly, even my wife could do it! ;-)
I’m finally getting a new rig next month, and am eyeballing the F5E as my first jet. I’ve tried DCS before and attempted to learn the Blackshark for my first module. Huge mistake. It was so in-depth it turned me off the sim altogether. I’d like a module that’s a lot more basic and this looks to fit what I need. I was thinking of the Hornet, A-10 or Viper but hear they can have a heavy learning curve. Thanks for these videos, they are a good reference to have in the learning process.
Yeah the Blackshark is an intense one to get into for your first. The F-5 is a good point to start with if you've never flown a jet before. The F-86 is another option to get accustomed to the extra speed, but the F-5 is a better choice overall.
I'll be making more videos for DCS aircraft like these if people enjoy the F-5 stuff I'm making. Keep an eye out for video #2 as that one is going to be key to understanding things moving forward :-)
Thanks! I don't like making super long videos (and don't need to since I don't use ads on the channel) so I tried to keep it to a decent overview of the airplane :-)
Absolutly with you in starting with the F-5, but if some one wants to start for free, and does not care about super sonic or radar, there is an A-4 mod that is as amazing as a pay module. Saddly it does not have radio or A/A refuel, but you can launch from carriers, do SEAD, and almost all the things the A-4 can do!!!. For learning is perfect and free!!
Yeah there are definitely a lot of people recommending the A4 around here! I'll have to check it out again as sounds like it has made good progress since the last time I flew it
A good question. if I am launched an active missile (amraam, phoenix, R77) how is it reflected in my RWR of my F-5? with a letter M? Because since the missile has its own radar, I don't see the enemy plane. Many greetings from Chile. Excellent page.
Sorry about that Central! Lol I've been working on this F-5 stuff on the side after I finished upgrade training in March. It's going to be different to what you usually see from me, so I hope you'll find it useful even though you've learned the F-5 already :-)
Well, I think I'm overdue for making DCS tutorials lol I enjoy flying the aircraft in it and I think I can help people with its learning curve using what I'm releasing soon...plus I like jets of course :-D
Probably a dumb question, but if a plane needs a drag chute to land how is it able to takeoff from that same runway? Are takeoff rolls generally shorter than landing rolls?
No that's not a dumb question at all as we have different considerations when taking off vs landing. There is a concept called "Balanced Field Length" and what this basically does is create certain speeds you need to make a decision during your takeoff roll that give you enough runway distance to come to a complete stop if you have a problem such as an engine failure. If you're below a certain speed you will reject the takeoff (enough distance to stop) or you continue the takeoff (not enough distance to stop). These speeds will change depending on various factors such as weight, weather conditions, and runway length.
The life of a flight simmer...I have Il-2, DCS, and MSFS 2020 installed on one drive...548Gb later and I'm scared to put anything else on it because it just keeps going up lol
A simple method with using anti-ice is if the temperature outside is 10 deg C or lower and you're encountering visible moisture (clouds, rain, fog, snow, etc) you should turn it on
It's all good DB, I'm still actively making Il-2 content :-) I just have some techniques and aids I've created to help people learn their first jet, so I'm using the F-5 to do that initially. It will become more apparent in #2 as this one just gives you a general overview.
@@RequiemsACTL Talking abou how good a Mig-21 module, by the DCS 1.5 standard, they are good and modelled correctly, but in DCS 2.5, Heatblur's Tomcat got the spot better than the Leatherneck MiG-21. By no means saying the Mig-21s are a bad module, they are still fantastic. The only thing it lack is actually a good rival terms like human driven F-4E phantom. You can get the mig a fight with F-5, sometimes it give you a fair fight on with a good terms, but flying it alongside the modern stuff, you put your own nail in the coffin. I personally enjoy the Mig for being realistic and a great "scramble" aircraft for novice pilot, as you can simply just switch most of switch on. But talking about more complex stuff, the MiG-21 somehow feel too simple to operate caused by the "novice all switched up" procedure, while the complicated Tomcat feel "real" because you actually have to select the switch properly to operate the Kitty. If you curious about it, you can check out the 21bis, but if you more to procedural near real life experience (like you mostly did in some of your video content) I will say the Tomcat give you a good sense. While the more modern stuff like Hornet and Viper, somehow still "far" from reality due to the nature of both aircraft still in USAF and USMC service respectively. The Tomcat give you in good position and have better VR support. I rarely flew the F-14 module, because of love-hate realtionship with the complicated procedure.
Thanks for that great info and your personal perspective, I appreciate it as it was a good read! I do own the F-14 and F-18, but I have much more time with the Hornet vs the Tomcat.
