Great video. Took less than 5 minutes as advertised. Plugged and played. Just saved me from buying a new printer. Then did the fuser life reset and I'm back in business.
I am most grateful for your taking the time to make and post this video! I was able to purchase the replacement part from Amazon ($136) and replace it following the steps in your video in under 30 minutes. Instead of a large pile of e-waste, I once again have a perfectly functional printer. Thank you! Note: Please read all the comments below from previous viewers - they will save you from damaging the red and white connectors!
Thanks man. Used your video to replace the fuser on a Brother printer model HL-3170CDW. Your video was extremely helpful. I would not have attempted this repair without your video instructions.
This was very helpful. I was careful about the wires and it seems to work perfectly again with no 05 errors like Robert, and no more "bumps" on the paper. Looks like my old fuser was starting to literally tear. I could only see that after I removed it. Thank goodness. My $100 fuser saved me from buying another $400 printer-and I LOVE this printer. Trent's tip in the comments on reseting the fuser life on the machine was also very helpful.
Thank you so much. You really have one of the best step-by-step video out there showing how the remove (precisely) the fuser. Plus, your images are in focus and it's well edited. My paper was coming out wrinkled in the middle and I was finding many pieces of thin rubber stuck in the back of the machine. Finally found out it was the Fuser unit.
Thanks for video guide, it worked like a charm and no 'fuser reset' was required in my case. My Brother printer is a MFC-9140CDN and there are only very minor differences.
Excellent! This saved me from sending the printer in for repair (shipping and labor costs as well as time) or purchasing a new printer after just replacing many toner cartridges. Thank you. Very small note: missing is that after fuser is in, the small left black plastic cover piece is replaced first, then the main black cover fits into a round insert left. Then, as shown, the right black plastic cover piece is placed so as to create the round insert right for the main black cover piece to carry out its hinge movement.
With this video and sufficient care, I was able to replace the fuser on our work printer. The instructions to reset are easy to find online; they involve a secret menu hidden in the Fax tab, but when you hold down Home long enough (5 sec), it goes back to the main menu. Just keep holding it down! It eventually works.
The white cable plug at the left of the video is released by pushing down with the screwdriver on the top tab that is closest to the viewer. This tab extends a slotted tongue under the hood of the back half of the plug (the end farthest from the viewer.) The tongue from the front half of the plug (nearest the viewer) engages a slight protrusion in the underside of the hood on the top of the back half of the plug. A slight wiggling as the plug starts to separate is sufficient to detach the two halves from each other. (I hope this description is an adequate substitute for a photo, which I would otherwise post here!)
Thank you for your video. The receptionist is bringing hers from home for me to look at. I used to work on HP laserjet printers and you would just press two clamps and remove the fuser. I used to work on Brother 8220's all the time.
I have a Brother MFC-L9550CDW and is looks a little bit different, but it give me a help to do it also correct.Thank you for your clear excample. Wijnie
Hermeslara Thanks for making this video. It helped quite a bit. And thanks to DAVID BOWES for your contribution. You prevented me from pulling off the whole connector.
Thanks for the great video. At first when I followed all the instructions I got a repeated message that the fuser door was open when it wasn't. After inspecting the rear of the machine I noticed that the red and white wires on the ride side were poking out from behind the little black cover that is installed on that side. This was blocking a little spade connector on the fuser door from making contact with a switch inside the machine and giving the error message. So make sure that you have those two wires pulled back and completely secured behind the plastic cover. When I took the little plastic cover back off and pushed the wires to the right the problem was solved.
Big help. Thank you. To bring it from a 9.5 to a perfect 10 I'd recommend you alway remind people to unplug the printer as the first step. I see it being unplugged in the video, but never underestimate someone's ignorance. As the saying goes: "Just when you thought it was idiot-proof, they make a better idiot."
@hermeslara Thanks for the great video, in my case after paper jam with force pull , the GREY rubber roller (there is two and the front one above the fuser roller ) fell off and its right side black plastic portion broken, Any advice on how to resolve? Is it easy fix?
I did this and got a "print unable 05" code and a useless printer. BUT, I took it to a Brother service technician. It turns out that I had been too rough with the two red and white wire plugs on the right hand side of the fuser (as you look from the back of the machine) and I had broken the solder connection on the board that those wires plug into. He re-soldered it and it is good as new, but it cost me $85. SO, BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THOSE PLUGS and you shouldn't have any problems. If you are getting the "print unable 05" code check that board for a loose connection. As it turns out I didn't save any money over having the technician do it from the beginning, but I guess I learned something!!!
Thanks Robert! I did the exact same thing. I pulled too hard on the white plug. It was a bit lose but I thought it was still connected. I am going to try and re-solder this to the board. Also called Brother about the issue. They told me to ship it to the service center and pay at least E120,-
Thank you so much for this comment! Somebody in our office tried to replace the fuser but managed to rip off both solder points including parts of the traces. Must be the cheapest PCB material on earth. Managed to fix it with nasty solder bridges and some hot snot.
Would the fuser be causing the printer to print the EXACT same thing 2 or 3 times over on the same page? For example, I had to print out a document and it printed it out and then it did it again and again (on the same page) for a total of 3 times so everything was scrambled and overlapping. Otherwise I have NO issues with this machine. TYIA! I sincerely, appreciate your help.
Great video. I need some help badly. Unfortunately, I tried to print some iron on picture on a special paper that was meant to be printed on a inkjet. Now, the rollers at the back are are covered with the ink that melted while exiting from the back. I need to clean them. Is there any way to do that? Second, I still am not able to remove the back cover out from its hinges, how do I do it without breaking something. Please help.
I replaced my fuser based off of this video. Thank you so much. My question is, does the plastic piece on the bottom side of the new fuser remain on the new fuser? My printer is making an odd sound when I print and it has a burning smell
good of video thank you . Thanks for teaching. I would like to know how to change the fuse of the power source, because my printer does not turn on and I think it is the fuse
Thank you very much. I was able to replace my fuser. I noticed that you are in real estate. So am I. I am in San Diego CA USA. Where are you located? Gracias
I replaced the fuser unit. Not too difficult. Updated the firmware. Now the printer does a self-diagnostic and comes up with "Printer Unable 05" error message constantly. Supposedly a problem with the fuser unit not heating properly or not enough power coming from the PCB. I removed the unit and replaced double checking all connections but still not working. Any ideas what I can do? Thanks.
This video was very well made, and the procedure seemed easy, but unfortunately my install failed. The machine with the new fuser unit is stuck on the LCD error message "fuser cover is open." I've tried everything... When I asked an official Brother service tech, he told me the fusers are delicate, and easy to slightly damage during re-installation. Any suggestions? I am close to giving up and buying a brand new machine... :)
Good morning hermeslara, I have a brother MFC9340CDW, when I turn it on it shows the message "CLOSE THE TOP COVER", you would be so kind as to tell me how to solve that fault or share a link that can help me. Thank you very much for your attention
Found this on the web and worked for me to reset the fuser life for the Brother BFC-9340CDW For a fuser life reset on this model, try this: - Press Fax - Press Home Button, hold the button down for 5 seconds. - Screen should pop up with serial # ***** then 2 blank boxes or rectangles at bottom. On touch screen window, press and hold bottom blank box until a number box (like a keyboard) pops up. - Enter *, 2, 8, 6, 4. - Screen should say Maintenance at top. - Enter 88 on touch screen. - Should say “Reset Fuser Unit”. Press SET key - Reset-Fuser Unit OK? Press SET key. - Press Stop key on touch screen. - Press 99 on touch screen to exit maintenance mode. Hi! Thanks for the video. I've just replaced my fuser, and it seemed to go pretty smoothly. But now my screen says "Remove Jammed Paper", ..... so I must have put something back together wrong, triggering a sensor. Any suggestions?
Has anyone had this issue that after replacing the fuser you get an error message "2 sided printing disabled check back cover'? I went through all the troubleshooting steps but the problem remains and I can't print duplex, everything else works as normal
I changed the fuser unit with a brand new one, and now i am getting an error message that says 'will automatically restart in 15 minutes' and after 15 minutes it does nothing and the error message stays there, any idea how reset the printer so that the error message goes away?

I got the same code. It turns out that I broke a soldered connection where the red and white plugs plug into that board on the right of the fuser. I had a Brother technician re-solder that connection and its good as new. It did cost me $85 and I just should've let him do the whole job in the first place, but my printer seems as good as new.

Thank you. This was really useful. Brother told me it wasn't possible for me to fix it myself. Took me only a bit longer than you!

Your video made the job of replacing the fuser unit so easy. I could never have done it without the video. Thanks.
Thank you so much. Worked a treat. Comments from other users warning about being careful with the molly connectors was also helpful. Straight forward.
Thanks for video guide, it worked like a charm and no 'fuser reset' was required in my case. My Brother printer is a MFC-9140CDN and there are only very minor differences.
Thank you for making this video - very well made, extremely helpful. And great choice of music! Worked flawlessly for my HL-3170CDW
Exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for posting this. I was really starting to get annoyed by the embossing my 9340 was doing to every print.
Worked PERFECTLY and saved me $400 not having to buy a new printer. Thank you!
This worked absolutely perfectly for me without any issues, thank you!
Thanks for the video. I was able to remove the fuser and replace pressure roller and fuser roller by my self. Thanks again!!!

Thanks for watching the video!
Thank you very much! Saved me from buying a new one.
Thanks for the helpful video! It works perfect for the Brother DCP-9020CDW

But grabbing a hot fuser roller is how we learn! Pain is the best teacher, after all.
hey thanks for the video i replaced mine today. exact same steps as brother 3150cdn
Thanks, this is just what I needed. It worked great for me. Do You also have a video on updating the Firmware for this printer?

Here is a video that shows doing it properly rather than for "entertainment" ua-cam.com/video/HnGapSLinJI/v-deo.html
derinus How did the re-soldering work out?

just bought the printer on ebay $83 local. fuser is 35% life, but how long it lasts regularly (with resets) till blows up ?
I am replacing my fuser, but I wonder if you know why my paper comes out with repeating wrinkles like embossing?
did you need to make any calibration?
How do you reset the error that states the fuser needs to be replaced?

Great tip. It worked. Thanks.
Thanks for the tip
how do you realize that this is the piece to replace? what problems from the printer?
Is this what I need to repair if my printer is leaving streaks and crinkling the pages?
Most likely a new fuser will solve the problem.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I've just replaced my fuser, and it seemed to go pretty smoothly. But now my screen says "Remove Jammed Paper", ..... so I must have put something back together wrong, triggering a sensor. Any suggestions?
Me Too. Have you found a solution?
