For those of you who are interested, here's a really brief summary to help you understand South Africa a bit better. Two decades ago the "Apartheid" regime ended in South Africa. It was a terrible regime which favoured the whites and severely hampered the economic growth of "non-whites". Even though it ended officially, it left a scar of racial segregation in South Africa. This is naturally taking ages to heal. The result is that South Africa is still massively racially segregated (divided). It also means that generally one's race is closely tied with ones economic bracket. This is all changing slowly. Regarding domestic workers (maids)... they provide over 1 million jobs in South Africa - which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the world. In most of my friends families, domestic workers become a part of the family. Miriam, the domestic worker I grew up with, came to all my birthdays, my wedding, etc. It's a dignified, low-income job. It's absolutely degrading and inappropriate to refer to them as 'slaves' so please refrain from using that term. This is obviously a very brief overview of a sensitive subject but if I wrote any more you probably wouldn't read it. Happy to answer any other serious questions. :)
Are u living in gated communities because I have heard in school that the crime is very high in South Afrika or isn't there any where you are living? Beside of that im curious if the domestic worker are living in the same houses with the families or do they have their own houses/flats? (Sorry, I hope you understand my english im obviously not a native speaker.) Have a good day!! Greetings from Germany :)
I don't get why people are so rude about your "maid".. I know women here in Switzerland that get some extra money by helping other families with their children and households and it is such a common things to have "day-moms" and household helpers. I think it would be rude to NOT have someone helping with your household right? And your house is amazing btw :D
Wow.. UA-camrs are all up in my country and I'm SO proud and thankful. (Connor Franta, Troye Sivan, Caspar Lee AND NOW FunForLouis too!!) I really hope you enjoy your stay here Louis! Thank you for the awesome vlogs. #SouthAfricanLoveAndPeace
I can't hold my excitement about this trip. Nick and Ange are such good, positive people who have much of what it means to live a good happy life already figured out. Not only will Louis learn something, but we will all learn a thing or two about health, direction, and most of all, the importance of shared experiences!
Great vlog Louis, haven't watched them for ages, life just flies by! I'm starting my round the world trip next month, 6 months travelling around SE Asia, Australia, NZ, USA and Canada, cannot wait, so excited.
As a South African, some of these comments are extremely frustrating for me to read. It is very easy for people who live in first world countries to sit behind their computer screens and judge a country without having a clue what they're talking about. I am currently travelling in Germany and have found it next to impossible to explain the complicated racial and economic dynamics to people I meet because so many just can't fathom how the country could still have obvious racial divide given that apartheid has ended. It's only been 20 years! In the grand scheme of things, that's not a very long time for a 3rd world country to magically change the entire state of the nation and all the ideologies and mind-sets held by the people within it. South Africa, like everywhere else in Africa, is by large a poor and uneducated nation. Our government isn't exactly known for efficiency or fair distribution of resources and because of the decades of apartheid practices preceding 1994, one's race is still often tied to one's standard of living/financial situation. THIS IS CHANGING, THANK GOD! It is already incomparably better to how it was. As a born free who has attended good schools with students of all races - I can confidently say our country is better than it's ever been in terms of integration. BUT, things are changing slowly. And in all honesty, I don't think given the government we have and the scale of our history - we could reasonably be expected to move any faster. Also, on the topic of domestic workers, would you rather they be unemployed? I take serious offence to these comments because my family have employed a number of domestic workers over the years who have become part of our family. These women have played a hand in raising me and they are proud of the work they do. We currently have a young woman who lives with us (in excellent conditions I might add) and her daughter stays with us too. We pay for her school fees, they spend holidays with us and are considered valued members of our family. Her daughter is like my baby sister. So kindly stop generalising when it comes to white south africans and how we treat others. It is ignorant. Of course, there are still racists in my country as there are racists in EVERY country the world over. Many of these commenters probably come from countries with their own histories of colonisation, oppression and discrimination. Look at your own nation's background before you judge another's. South Africa is a beautiful, diverse and vibrant country. We have our problems, but we're working on them.
What a great vlog yet again Louis! I love how you are so open to taking on this new healthy experience with Nick and Ange! Btw all of you seem such amazingly decent people, it's so refreshing to see such positive people and friendships :) have a wonderful time I South Africa ♡♡♡
Enjoy capetown just back from spending 12 days there! The most beautiful and amazing place you will go to! Recommend the abseiling down table mountain or the Langa township tour it's amazing!
I have always wanted to go to South Africa. When I was at camp over the summer we had a counselor who lives in South Africa but came to the untied states to be a counselor at the camp and our cabin table at lunch did a counselor switch and the South African counselor was right next to me. We were all talking about places we wanted to go when older and I said South Africa and he told me some things about it. I find the culture and history to be so fascinating and now it makes me want to go there even more! This is a big life goal to one day go to South Africa!!
Alright everyone listen up. For those of you saying "oh my god a black maid" "oh my god that's slavery" you guys don't get it. Here in South Africa, having a maid is normal and they are NOT slaves. It is a job. Some people are poor and they work as maids or shopping clerks or gardeners etc. They do it to earn money. We don't torture them or whatever the hell you think we do to them. That's not how it works. So many people see South Africa in the worst light and it breaks my heart. We are an amazing country so please can you actually do some research and learn about us before you judge us. I have a maid and I love her to bits. She's the sweetest person ever and we are so kind to her. She's lucky to have a job because lots of people in South Africa don't. And Ebola is another story. When Connor Franta, Caspar Lee and Troye Sivan came here everyone thought they would get Ebola. Listen Ebola isn't everywhere in Africa okay it's in parts of it. Louis is not going to get it. Cape Town doesn't have Ebola. Again do some research before you assume and judge us.
Louis busting out a bar muscle up on his first try is yet another example of him being awesome at just about everything he does in life. Well, except when it comes to losing stuff. ;-)
It makes me uncomfortable seeing people as personal maids, I know people need money but I would feel horrible with someone doing my house work in my nice house, only for them to go home and do their own house work.
I hope that u will keep eating healthy and work out I think it's good for you now, it will open your mind to other things and have a clear version of goals
Louis you should totally try to get your hands on some Koeksisters, I don't know if they're very common in South Africa (like biltong), but they're so so good. They're like little small bits of dough fried and with honey or something, overly sweet, but really good.
I just read what, Nick, typed. It takes time for countries to heal from a war or a regieme. I was wondering until I read it, I a fascinated by history and its always interesting. It's great to see how others live, in other parts of the world
YES FINALLY YOUR VLOG IS UP! Haven't watch the video yet but I'm already writing a comment and liked the video.. Been waiting for this since I saw your snapchat story..Amazing and beautiful place! Have fun in Cape town and take care! Lots of love from Sweden! x
I worked as a house keeper part time for years cleaning\doing laundry. Most of the homes I worked in were middle class American homes. Just like many people pay for lawn care vs doing it themselves. Hopefully we'll see more of South Africa while Louis is there - really not fair to judge him on what he saw his first day.
I see you're having much better with the uploading than I had hahah! I was staying in the Balalaika last night which has seriously fast internet, yay! Going home tonight :'(
Although south Africa has overcome apartheid, i cant help notice in ben's vlogs for example and in this vlog too, it seems that most of the lower-paying jobs are filled with black members of the public, like cleaners, waiters/waitresses etc. i don't mean to sound racist at all, i hate racism but its just what i have noticed. I saw that some others noticed it on some of ben's vlogs and i can't help but notice it too.
To everyone speaking about ebola and that it is dangerous in South-Africa. Ebola is in another part of Africa, in the west. You have the same chance getting Ebola in USA and South-Africa!
Great Video Louis! your vlogs are sick man! just want to be like you one day and travel the world! like for no reason your just like 'we are going to china' im like whatttaaa?! but hope youtube goes ok for you! keep up the goood work! much love from me! :)

Training actually has very little to do with how you look compared to your diet.
I think Louis is some sort of secret super human. I mean, I have only seen him workout once before with Cyr in LA and now he just casually does a half decent muscle up. This takes other guys a lot of time to finally get up there from what I've heard. Haha go Louis!
i litterly just woke up and went straight to my phone. i was dreaming me,my friend, louis and other random girl went argentina for traveling. so freaking cool!!
before you judge someone else living, try to wash away your sins, and look at your selves first. Nick & Ange's maid is lucky in her situation (of being on her job) because she has uniform and stuff, she worked with lovely people like nick's, compared to my country which natives worked as maid to also a native, just for money reasons, no racial whatever , and yet some(of them) are treated brutally/by violence. Some of our natives even flew to a country, to be a nanny and yet some people are just dumb enough to kill or treat them brutally.
I am South African. Some of the comments I've read have really been quite negative about my country. Yes Apartheid happened and there was a lot of racism and people were segregated. There is a lot of poverty in our country and that is the cause of a lot of shack towns in our country. It is quite a usual thing to have a maid in South Africa. No it is not slavery they are given a salary some families are more generous than others but there is a set minimum that they must be paid. Racism is still alive however the rest of the world still faces racism. Please do not say that your country is any better with racism because trust me no country is perfect. Come on Ryan, Louis is awesome at losing stuff too, nobody does it better :-)
It makes me uncomfortable seeing people as personal maids, I know people need money but I would feel horrible with someone doing my house work in my nice house, only for them to go home and do their own house work.

PLEASE WATCH MY LATEST VIDEO
1:00 Love Nicks sense of humor.
Wow Cross fit looks so intense!!
Love the music!! Blue in Green 👍
Is that the name of the song that was playing when they were working out?
Funny how Louis is already pretty ripped and he doesn't even workout lol (before this vlog)
Sometimes its genetics. Sometimes he fits his workout into his daily life (like rushing to get to the plane) WeGottaSituationGTL
A fast metabolism is genetic, and that he has, so yeah its genetic.
He isn't really ripped. He has some arm muscle & abs because he does a lot of things that involve those areas.
But he's not ripped.
true. to be ripped you would have to go to the gym every day. iBeFloe
Piano Around the World Na not true, to be ripped you basicly need to burn more calories then you need to maintain your weight (depending on if you already are ripped you can eat at a maintainance level or lower of your daily calorie intake). Training actually has very little to do with how you look compared to your diet.
Your vlogs are the best! Keep them coming!
I'm from Cape Town and i find it so amusing how you guys say "Boerewors."
looks beautiful!
Louis come to Durban please i would love to meet you and you are so close
South Africa looks soooo beautiful, i wanna go there some day :(
But the intro guy in N. Korea, HOW!!???!!???
I think Louis is some sort of secret super human. I mean, I have only seen him workout once before with Cyr in LA and now he just casually does a half decent muscle up. This takes other guys a lot of time to finally get up there from what I've heard. Haha go Louis!
That's a beautiful home.
I need to buy that iPhone cable. I've broken so many shorter ones.
Love to everybody!!!
are you even allowed cameras in north korea?
Yes but only for tourist reasons. You should watch the vice north Korea documentary. Its on youtube and its really interesting.
ahahaha
OMG Louis I live in Newlands! This is so exciting wish I could bump into you :)
I love the new music
i tried counting the number of people turning back and looking at louis vlogging but i lost count
i litterly just woke up and went straight to my phone. i was dreaming me,my friend, louis and other random girl went argentina for traveling. so freaking cool!!
I live in Cape Town !! Please have a meet and greet Louis !! +funforlouis
Where about in Cape town are you? Been a couple of times and I am so in love with that place X
before you judge someone else living, try to wash away your sins, and look at your selves first. Some of our natives even flew to a country, to be a nanny and yet some people are just dumb enough to kill or treat them brutally.
As if Nick and Ang weren't cute enough and now they have such a cozy house in a cool country #goals
I see you on ben brown vlog. Nice to see you with ben man... the two amazing vlogs video...
I am South African. Some of the comments I've read have really been quite negative about my country. Yes Apartheid happened and there was a lot of racism and people were segregated. When are you coming to Finland :D
Omg can't believe u went to South Africa!!!!! I really hope ur still gonna be there around the 6th of December cause that's when I'm going. (I'm typing this while this video is no like 1:30 so if I sound like I haven't payed attention in the video I just haven't watched all of it.)
Heads high playing in the background at the fitness class 🙌
i feel like i'm the only one freaking out that the guy in the intro is from north korea...
Shoutout to the song playing at 7:10!
Well, this video as all your videos is awesome cause you share with us,with people that mybe you don't know about your life and your experiences when you are travelling and your daily life...You're an awesome UA-camr and I think I won't leave to watch this...You are the biggest inspiration to me in so many aspects!... I'm from México and my dream is not to stay in the same place, there's too much to discover that sometimes I wish to got the same luck as you... xD You're blessed Louis!! Peace out!
I come from south-africa when he asked if the cross fig was a chill 1.. I was just thinking you have no idea what's waiting!! 😂😂😁🇿🇦🙈
Guy in the intro has balls, travelling all the way to North Korea, I wouldn't even think about going there
Jamming in the gym to Mr. Vegas "heads high" is a classic!
Jamaican music in the gym! Woop! Woop!
