- I’m talking color work today! I explore and process different color combinations from idea to swatch. There’s also a mini tutorial of how to resolve wrap and turns in an invisible way.
I hope you have some time to sit and craft with me!! I love reading your comments. I created this channel to get to know other knitters, and yarn lovers, and share our love of making!

I always love seeing you work through your color choices. Super interesting and educational. Thank you!
Aww, thanks, Beth!! 🥰❤️❤️
Hi Shannon, this was so fun to watch/ listen to as I skirt our sheep’s fleeces! Thank you for sharing Sweetpea & Holly’s yarn. I love the Jill Draper colors you paired them with. I can’t wait to see your sweater knit up!! You had our story almost perfect- we bought our first sheep in 2016, moved to our farm in 2020 during the midst of the pandemic. The rest is history!
Glad you enjoyed it!!! Oh thank you for the update to your farm story! I’m so looking forward to knitting with your yarn!! ❤️❤️❤️
I really love how you've chosen to use that yellow yarn. I think the combination of the bright body with the colorwork sleeves will have a neat funky vibe. Thanks for letting us in on your decision making process.
Thanks so much!! 😍❤️❤️
Oh what exciting combinations you ended up at! Both those sweaters will look stunning in those colours :)
Thank you!! And they'll be fun to wear!❤️❤️❤️
Frankly, I’m such a fan of your “cast on with me” 😘 I love to hear your thinking process. I’m ordering a Japanese color book. Thank you so much for sharing…
I'm glad you enjoyed this episode!!❤️❤️❤️
Always! This was so fun, Shannon. Thanks for knitting with us. -Kimberly
Thanks so much!! ❤️❤️❤️
I hope you have the time to continue with these different versions of your channel. I find going along with you in your process interesting and actually helpful. I like looking at the creative process from all kinds of different perspectives. I find that i grow more as an artist and stagnate/stall way less. I suppose i would get that from spending time with other artists in person too, but don't have that opportunity...so I'm super grateful for people who enjoy making content on UA-cam! 😉 thank you!
Thanks so much!! Yes, I plan to continue both series for the near future. I'm enjoying it!! ❤❤❤
I have that book to reference in my graphic design job but I never thought to reference for knitting! But of course I should! 🤯
Yes!! I just ordered Volume 2! ❤️❤️❤️
Love the yellow with the Spincycle.
Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
Very inspiring Shannon! I have a similar Japanese book of colour combinations that I love but haven’t used that closely before but this may change. Loved seeing you work through and all the swatches - this is what I do too, even if I keep yarn attached and unravel once I’ve picked colours and gauge. People who moan about swatching don’t understand that seeing the yarn knit up is such an important step in achieving a garment that you love. I think you ended up with the perfect colours for each knit. And I hadn’t seen the Stowaway, just love it, thanks for showing it and love the black and white
Happy to spread the love for swatching!! It does really help, and beats having to unravel a full size project! I love the test knitters versions of Stowaway. They're so inspiring! ❤️❤️❤️
Loved this video, the Japanese colour combinations dictionary looks awesome 👍, Thank you for sharing your time, home and makes ❤💕
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much! ❤❤❤
Thanks for taking us along your color picking process for color work.
You are so welcome! ❤
I really like your colors for the Inge sweater solo. I put that sweat in my queue, and I am tempted to knit it in the original colors. I can't wait to see yours finished. Happy knitting.
Thank you!!, Me, too, me, too!! Yes the original are so good!! ❤️
Love this format of podcasting!! I am interested in how you work through colors and patterns, keep it up! I love, love your final swatch, can't wait to see it cast on. It's going to be stunning! Diane in SC
Thank you so much!! That's good to know!! 😍❤️❤️
I am so excited I just ordered that Japanese book of colour combinations! Thank you! I also am going to knit this sweater this winter.😊
Wonderful! Hope you enjoy both!!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for an inspiring and interesting video showing your creative process. I have the Japanese book, but never used it - I will from now on😘
Thank you so much! It's a good tool for color combos we wouldn't necessarily think about! ❤❤❤
Love your color ideas and need to checkout that book! I have had FOMO for so long wanting one of Amy’s bag and finally got one!….green apple sock bag and it’s beautiful.
Oh I remember that one!! It’s so gorgeous!! I just love the quirky cool fabrics she picks ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Shannon for this episode! I find you followed a very interesting processto decide what to cast on and choosing yarn that you want to use as a starting point! I am right now trying to do the same. Working on tge Trouville sweater from Sophie Ochera but I am trying to make it work from 2 colours of Jamieson and Smith that I have enough of for the main colour. Had I been shopping, I probably would have chosen different MC. I had to rip back my yoke many times so far because I didn’t want to swatch for color combinations ( there are like 10 + different colours on the yoke). I finally decided decided to go for a rather safe palette: all warm fall colours. I still may have to rip back at some point but trying to minimize that. I find it difficult to get a good color combination when there are lots of colours being used. It is a fun challenge though! Love you and all your content ❤
I have that sweater queued! It's so adorable! I've got to get back to color work yoke at some point! They fit so nice ❤️ Sounds like you hit on a workable palette! Hope it goes smoothly!! ❤️❤️❤️
Why am I not surprised that we both ordered during the Magpie sale! 🥰
Lol!! It was a good deal!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Shannon, that was so interesting. I think I’ll put the book on my Christmas list!
That's a great idea!!😍❤️
I love Cast on with me but I also like the other format too. I enjoyed looking at the swatches and I’m glad you are doing both. I agree I also like to knit with DK but my most worn sweaters are always the fingering ones I actually did cast on a new project as I watched which was nice (though I should be working on what’s already on the needles )
Thank you!! That's the challenge, right? I'm really itching to cast on something else new, but resisting it. ❤❤❤
❤❤❤
😍❤
That book is fabulous, can u forward the info? Where did u find it?
Isn't it though?! ❤️❤️❤️ The title and author are in the description box. I ordered it from Amazon.
@@whiskyandwool thanks! Found it🙏
What color work sweater is that for?
Hi! I talked about it in the episode. It's Stowaway by Wool and Pine. There are more details in the description box.❤️
Frankly, not a big fan of your "cast on with me", episodes but this was interesting. I do wonder, though, why are you doing any colorwork except maybe stripes with DK, given that you fingering is supposedly best for you. DK in allover colorwork makes it TK (triple knit, really really thick and warm)...
Funny you say that about not being a fan of this style. Folks whine that podcasts all follow the same FO-Wip format- “so dull & predictable!”So I try something different- and get far less views- At some point I’ll stop this format but for now I’m having fun. Also kindly realize I make this much money doing all this work on my channel -> $0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ and get this many sponsorships -> 0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣
As to why knit color work with Dk? Because not everything I knit is practical. That would be so boring. I give away the sweaters that I don’t wear anymore. Some as soon as I cast off. It’s how it goes sometimes. I enjoyed reading your point of view! Thanks ❤️
I do not know about your views and earnings and sponsorships, and even less about your expectations of rewards from doing the YT videos. All I can tell you is that I did not like at all your cast-ons video so far (too slow for me...), maybe I gave up on them too quickly, since I like your regular videos quite a lot. This time I was drawn to watching because of the Japanese color book and really just for that, since you mentioned it quickly in the beginning - a friend of mine was showing me the booklet a couple of weeks ago and I was intrigued. Anyway, I agree there are sooo many podcasters doing the same cookie-cut predictable shows, and I am one of those that find them dull and at most just skim through practically all of them, although I used to follow many enthusiastically - I like yours much better probably because of your personality (which I like and enjoy) and different aesthetics (which is absolutely not mine cup of tea).
IMHO: there is a lot whining from the podcasters about the view counts lately, this is also something that is getting dull and predictable. Probably the market of knitting podcasts is getting overly mature... I recommend questioning yourself thoroughly WHY you are doing the videos. You gave me impressions that it amuses you, that it is just for a pure hobby and just pure joy of sharing YOUR knitting ways. I understand it would be great if getting lots of views, praise, money, sponsorship - but this is realistic just for a few lucky ones. I would miss YOU if you stop podcasting, but continue doing it ONLY if doing it makes you happy, do not do it if for profit - you'd be better off cleaning other people's homes in this time :-(
All the best
@@anciify Oh, totally!! No worries! The ONLY reasons I do these videos is for fun, to share the love the process of knitting, and to meet like minded, knit-loving people! I have zero interest in monetizing this channel or experience. I see what it has done to others. No need for me to clean people houses either- LOL 😂 but yeah- I hear you- at least that would be a more bankable hustle! Do I need to say that I'm here for the fun of it more often? I forget that people come and go 😮💨
I know you're a long time viewer and I appreciate that!! I've enjoyed chatting! ❤❤❤
Why would you start your comment with something negative? People who podcast put themselves out there and put effort into content?
An honest feedback is the best I can do for the podcasters I follow. Meanwhile, by all means, you do you. Cheers!
