I think you said it best. Some people have criticized Christopher Tin because he won a grammy for this. Yes, he didn't write the original song but what won him the award and why this song is so good is how he added the orchestra and the arrangement to complement the original song.
This was the title song for Sid Meyer's Civilization 4. "Baba Yetu" is a Swahili translation of the Lord's prayer (as I understand it). Beautiful arrangement.
Soweto Gospel choir is a South African choir. Yes most of the lion King sound tracks were inspired by south African traditional rhythms. Baba yethu is swahili lords prayer.
If you liked this, definitely check out Christopher Tin: live at Cadogan Hall - Waloyo Yamoni. It's another song in a similar vein to this. Powerful vocals that build and include some amazing dynamic shifts throughout. Well worth the time to watch and watching it with subtitles lets you appreciate the story being told.
A comment on the og video sums this song up perfectly, by @levilukeskytrekker " It's crazy to think that a prayer literally written by Jesus of Nazareth Himself 2,000 years ago, spread to North Africa from the Middle East in the first century AD, eventually translated into the descendant language of Swahili that emerged via trade with Arabic merchants across the continent, was then sung and used as the OST for a video game in the 21st century. I love Earth, we're so weird. "
“Ephesians 5:19 [19] addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart…” YWHW reigns forever! He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end!!
i ADORE the use of Swahili in this song. It sounds so beautiful. I love hearing languages in song, it's where they shine best. All those years and generations amounting to such a harmonious sound is so beautiful to think about. The hardships and triumphs, the wars and victories and losses and so much death, but we still sing. Idk man, it hits me.
The song is literal translation of the Lord's Prayer in SWAHILI. Abt the Lion King, it was based in Kenya and most of the characters names are Swahili. Simba for example is Lion in Swahili. Zulu is a South African culture. "The circle of life" intro is in Zulu , but the movie is Kenyan based.
This might be the best game theme song ever, honestly. I love me some Morrowind theme and others but this one is just so good. Might also check out Tin's theme song for Civ 6, Sogno di Volare.
I would also recommend Civilization 6's title song as well. It's not quite as good as this one in my personal opinion, but it's very good. This is the lords prayer in Swahili set to music. Civ 6's title music is a poem written by Leonardo de Vinci if my memory is correct and it's set to music.
Correct. Sogno di Volare (The Dream of Flight) is a powerful song. Singing these songs with a choir is so much fun. I hope Christopher Tin keeps writing these amazing pieces!
ma man i was looking for all different versions of baba yetu.. but check this out.. the sopranos are completly out of different world: "Baba Yetu - Stellenbosch University Choir"
Awesomely beautiful and I felt so proud, as an American, that this almost feels like a tribute to what happens when men are free! God bless our Republic!
I have seen so many different performances of Baba Yetu, Angel City Chorale got a Golden Buzzer on AGT with this song, Maytree, a Korean a cappella group did a shortened version, which is very interesting, Alex Boye , who also appeared on AGT did Baba Yetu with, I believe a men’s choir from a Utah University, you really can’t go wrong with any version of this incredibly moving and spiritual piece. Alex Boye and BYU Choir ua-cam.com/video/vsINANZ6Riw/v-deo.htmlsi=6ao86V3UqWP349-Q Probably the most interesting cover, Maytree, a cappella, Christopher Tin thank them for covering this. ua-cam.com/video/hRDn4s5RCN8/v-deo.htmlsi=pHKCnKoz7PmcWzy3
I disagree, that film or Hollywood deserves this, in fact it does a disservice, to this genre. Games gave us the Tomb raider theme from the blessed Composer/writer, Nathan McCree. Games opened up a road to creatives that thought out of the box, that weren't tied to mainstream thought. Every industry becomes bloated and orthodox. Games gave a new freedom, that sadly has now been abused.

In all humbleness, I think you may have had a better video if you actually reviewed "Baba Yetu (Encore) - Christopher Tin: Live at Llangollen 2017" instead of the video-game official video.

He’s a composer not a songwriter
LOL "didn't write it himself" - take it up with Jesus.

"Baba Yetu" is a Swahili translation of the Lord's prayer (as I understand it).
Beautiful arrangement.
Там многие слова повторили и попереставляли.
When I heard this the first time, I couldn’t imagine hearing a song so epic about humanity.
When I played Civ IV for the first time as a kid I was stuck in the opening menu for 30 mins listening to this banger. 😂

Baba Yetu is one of the very rare perfect songs.
I can't imagine a more beautiful rendition of The Lord's Prayer -- which is really worship of the all-renewing 'Dawn'.

It's amazing that this is simply the Lord's prayer in Swahili
Beautiful! ❤
Recommendation: Stellenbosch University Choir Baba Yetu

Christopher Tin loved their version
I have loved this song ever since the first time I heard it, it feels so spiritual and grateful, it fills my heart ❤, so glad to see your reaction.
I sang this for a choir concert in middleschool
They're singing The Lords Prayer.
This our father the lords prayer In swahili.
Yup, the lyrics is literally the Lord's Prayer.
Awesomely beautiful and I felt so proud, as an American, that this almost feels like a tribute to what happens when men are free! God bless our Republic!
Huh? It’s a theme to a game. This isn’t any kind of patriotic anything.
Stellenbosch university choir for me.
awesome!!
The lyrics are the Lord’s Prayer 🙏

Too good for a video game ?
LOL you have seen nothing yet. Educate yourself.
I have to take down my sound level to 25 percent with your videos. Something not right.
