So easy a four-year-old can do it! Of course, you have to get them to stop. I kind of imagine you have to hose the kids off when they're covered in peat moss or something. That was really funny when you pulled out a quantity of the moss, and the helpers sort of lost focus, I was really laughing. I do want to say that this information is really helping me. After a few decades of doing yard work any old way, I'm finally trying to do a good job, this is exactly the level of instruction I need. My neighbors will thank you!
I didn't know you could use peat moss. I will give it a try! I just did my small bare spots with nothing this past spring but I wanted to try putting something on top for bigger patches. A lot of the people around here use straw but I wasn't sure where to get it. Thanks for the tip!
Nice video on doing the seeding but it is a bit of an overkill in my book. Next time try using the dead grass you raked up instead of peat moss or just go over it with a simple tool to put holes and loosen the soil up.I made a short video using the $30 too. You should get one of them if you don't. You can see it on my feed. Your videos are enjoyable to watch and like you have your boys helping out.
OK, Grass Daddy, I am getting ready to have someone aerate my lawn and over-seed my lawn, with my direction cause I did this last time with this landscaper he is not that knowledgeable on this. Here are the steps I am taking and you can suggest any ideas: Aerate around 7000 sq. feet of lawn (that has 30-35% weeds), get Scotts starter fertilizer, milorganite and over-seed, then cover the seed up with some peat moss. Now the temps in Worcester will fall to 48 degrees in about 3-5 days at night. Now some of the lawn is not really flat (large tree fell long time ago). Although I don't have the perfect conditions that I would love to have and limited with experience and luck (sometimes). Well, I hope this will improve my lawn. Let me know your thoughts/ideas etc. Also, how do you feel about using the 4 Step Scotts products along with Milorganite? Do you go with just Milo? Is it bad to go Synthetic (scotts) and Milo mixed up. Last question, can I mow a bit lower with my Honda HRX for this process as well.
+Plato Dimitriadis for an overseed first cut the lawn as short as you can while bagging, then aerate and seed. Everything else looks good. As for synthetics and milo you can do both. But the reason I dont do the 4 step is the weed killer is best in liquid form not granular. And finally, you know you can get bay state fertilizer in quincy? Only an hour away for me too but I take the trip =P
Nice video. 👍🏼 So how do you plan to do your Fall urea program with the new seedlings? I was posting about my plan in TLF the other day trying to get some ideas but they say the urea isn't good if you are going to overseed. I'm in NJ with about mid 80 day temps and high 60 nights. I could probably get away with seeding here soon.
Where do you get that peat moss?? Besides, great vid. I like the fact you bring your kids along. My three year Eli, and patched up some spots with rye grass.
+Ninja Master hay and straw are used interchangably. one has seeds the other doesnt. Ive seen amazing lawns with crazy weeds growing over it that had to be completely started over so I use peat moss now

The look of joy the little one gets every time the peat moss comes out... :D :D :D
Good little helpers.
Thanks for great video, very helpful!!
You are right about tilling the whole lawn. It caused problems for me, lawn is now lumpy and it turned up weed seeds.

+Lawn Dad I can apply urea without hitting those spots. with an overseed you usually do the whole lawn
Grass Daddy, I gotcha.

+obadiah7771 home depot, any kind would work
Not sure what you said from 0:22-0:47. Your son stole the show!
Lil guy has quite the green thumb.
Also I used the peat moss and that stuff really takes forever to get wet cause the top gets wet and underneath the peat moss is dry..
+Daniel Valade yup but once its wet it holds it for a longer time than the soil
It's does and it's like a blanket for the seed , this year was my first time using peat moss and I did it cause of your vids
Can you post the brand of the starter fertilizer you use...thanks
+Marilou Perham scotts, the blue bag one
Thank you so much
Middle of August counts as fall?
+Scott Warren I'm trying to do the videos early so people have the time to plan and see ;) but yeah its in the 60s today here lol
lots of ppl I see use straw. any advantage to that?
Ninja Master Peat moss doesn't have any weed seeds in it.
+Ninja Master hay and straw are used interchangably. one has seeds the other doesnt. Ive seen amazing lawns with crazy weeds growing over it that had to be completely started over so I use peat moss now

the groundskeeper 2
Where are you, Grass Daddy? Mass?
+Robert Bessell close! RI
ah... so it will be another month until its cool enough to start my fall program here in the R, VA
Your kids could care less about the lawn but that peat moss was the only reason they wanted to help lol ... Kids and dirt
+Czr S haha exactly
I'm scared of background music its looks like i'm losing money because its whistle - "Doing nothing" . Great videos.
