I know, I know but when I'm in Rome I drink cappuccino in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. Wonderful "caldo" or "fredo". Can't get enough.
A couple of weeks ago I went to Italy and in Rome, Piazza Navona, my sister and I ordered two cappuccinos and it was 6:00pm and they served us without any problem. Very delicious by the way.

In Portugal we have milk and coffee drinks too (meia de leite and galão) and we have them for breakfast and for our afternoon snack, which is basically the afternoon version of breakfast

In truth, you can order a cappuccino at any time of day. Italians won't do it, or very rarely, because we drink something else in the afternoon. But you can definitely have it as a snack around 4pm with a slice of cake or by itself without anybody thinking twice about it. What horrifies the waiter is having a cappuccino *with* a meal, because milk is considered more of a food than a beverage and so it's like you are ordering extra food, which doesn't combine with the meal itself at all. There is usually much attention to which beverage goes well with which food, so sipping a cappuccino with a seafood pasta is going to cause a lot of raised brows, and some suggestions like: "wouldn't a glass of white be more appropriate..?" But it's really just the reaction of someone who thinks what it would taste like to their palate and have a bit of nausea at the very idea. I know I would have to look away, because the combination would make me retch. But I mean, I bet a lot of food we eat and other cultures eat would make americans go "ew", even if it is perfectly safe and healthy. Like a lot of types of meat, which I know are alien to American culture.

Like in movies, as a kid, I always assumed the milkshake was some sort of dessert that came after the savory dish (though I wouldn't be able to dunk that much after eating cheeseburger and fries). I would quite simply not order it. I can't even finish a whole burger and fries American-portion. A milkshake for me is a meal of itself. 😆 But yeah, I wouldn't be able to sip a milkshake whilst chomping on a burger. I don't like that mix of flavours.

Many years ago my Italian college professor said in Italy cappuccino at any meal but breakfast was incorrect. So cappuccino for breakfast with a cornetto is a good choice. Where I come from we eat hot dog mostly for breakfast (most part of Europe- Hungary, Poland, Serbia..) Latte we drink any time of the day, though a lot of people drink rather Turkish coffee especially on the Balkans.

It is part of the continental breakfast all over Europe. Only the bun id what is not eaten over here as such. We eat the sausages with bread rather.

To the "no hot dog for breakfast" topic: I had Pizza for breakfast like 4-6 times since I'm 18 (am now 24), cuz of adult life with adult money, can do what I want whenever I want and so on, you know what I mean. But I don't wanna do it too often, cuz then it wouldn't be special anymore. Since then I also had 2 days in my life where I ate nothing but Pizza for a whole day, and of course this involved 2 of the days where I had Pizza for breakfast. And all those days always felt awesome and made me really happy. But about the coffee topic: I only drink black coffee (caffè crema, is what its called on the package of beans) without sugar, or any other sweetener, 6-8 cups a day, but not after 6 pm.

We all have to agree that eating "cornetto, brioche" la mattina is not good for our body. Capuccino and Affogato is for morning. Many may say you can have it at midday or night but it's not the same. Have a lighter cafe beverage as you progress into the evening and night.
I was so glad when I learned quite recently about the Italian attitude to milky coffee after the morning. It had never made any sense to me that in England and America people want to drink a pint of hot milk with coffee in it in the middle of the afternoon, or even with lunch. To me it’s like having a bowl of cereal as a drink.
Love you girl and will probably respect that in italy reluctantly, but, im not going to be told what to eat or drink, if i want a cap after lunch, or dinner ill definitely have it, i dont like espresso. Also people do eat hot dogs for breakfast here somewhere 😂
Isn't coffee generally a morning drink in the us as well? Like unless you're going to Starbucks on a lunch break, it's not really common after 12 in the US as well.

I was so glad when I learned quite recently about the Italian attitude to milky coffee after the morning. It had never made any sense to me that in England and America people want to drink a pint of hot milk with coffee in it in the middle of the afternoon, or even with lunch. To me it’s like having a bowl of cereal as a drink.

My Milanese friends would have macchiato in the afternoon, but I never understood why that was different from cappuccino.

Personally I’ve never seen someone order or drink an espresso in Canada. I can have caffeine before bed and I find a cappuccino at night is comforting

Isn't coffee generally a morning drink in the us as well? Like unless you're going to Starbucks on a lunch break, it's not really common after 12 in the US as well.
