Hummel: Trumpet Concerto
III. Rondo
Elmer Churampi (trumpet), Benjamin Zander (conductor)
Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra
Sanders Theater, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts
February 1, 2015
The guy has the best articulation and sound and clarity I’ve ever heard
Then you should go and look für Mathias höfs
You never heard hans gansch right?
Nah. Better than most however
His attack isn't flawless. It's probably good enough for any chair in any orchestra, but there are soloists with better articulation.

There is a great video of this young man doing a master class on Mahler 5. He plays a C trumpet with such a powerful sound that you could mistake it for a B flat. Here he plays a B flat with grace a lightness of a smaller horn. That's pretty fantastic.
yeah Ive seen that video, its funny to hear the mic on the camera or wherever they're recording it from dim when he plays because its so loud and awesome
Eric Daniel It’s actually easier to achieve a more powerful sound on a C trumpet due to its larger bore usually and simply less tubing that’s why they’re used in orchestras!
Eric Daniel I do however still think this is really impressive with Mr. Churampi playing on a Bb trumpet!
My c trumpet is so damn sharp all the time I have to adjust the slide a lot unlike how my b flat slide is stuck and it doesn’t even need it moved
@@antsflorida4092 that's just you playing lol
The trumpeter is effortless and his execution and phrasing are exquisite. Mr Churampi is one to watch.
So much to like here - flat-out incredible playing, that he used a Bb (!!!), the talented orchestra - but the very best thing here is the reaction of the orchestra at the end. This wasn't just camaraderie or cheering for a classmate, they seem genuinely happy for him. Instruments on their laps, clapping, stomping, whooping, big smiles, love and admiration all around. I'd pay to see more of that these days.
“ *flat* out incredible that he used a Bb”
lol
what a dumbass comment i left 3 months ago - wasn’t even funny
@@jigjamz I have done that to myself on multiple embarrassing occasions... it's okay 😂
Someone has a crush.
I know right lol
Dude i stg i couldnt focus because of her
LMAO!
I KNOOOOOOWWWW DUDE
is that flutist ? hahah
4:13 Zander is like "Where do you think you're going boy?"
I don’t think I’ve ever been as blown away by someone’s concert tone as much as this guy’s, absolutely brilliant! Also some of the cleanest double tonguing I’ve heard. This will most certain help me with my play through on this. If only I could play it as well as he did.
That lip trill at 3:29 is amazing!
Truly the best trumpet player of his age group!
I love how the flute counted at 1:12 :D
Maybe cause she is the concert master for flute section?
actually many of us playing in the orchestra does that... i use the keys and tone holes on my instrument sometimes XDD
@@ArieAGinting I would second this opinion, it looks like the Oboe to her left was looking to her in the corner of his eyes to make sure he was coming in on time. The rest of the line followed.
you can kinda tell that she grew up in China by the way that she does six
If you are ANY instrumentalist in ANY orchestra, regardless of whether you are a first chair wind or fifth stand violin, you should not count resting measures, period! Just like the conductor memorizing the ENTIRE score of any given piece, you, as an instrumentalist need to be so familiar with your part (read: memorize it) to the extent that you know exactly when to come in throughout the piece's entirety without relying on counting measures of rest...it's that simple.
The percussion players off the right, enjoying the performance and cheering him on...awesome. He looks back at them at 1:31 and smiles.
It looks to me like he's smiling because he knows he just rushed his last phrase a little
GRACIAS GENIO!
The flute player in the back is totally enamored 😂
Yes men lol
She never picks up an instrument so what’s a girl to do but stare? Lol
@@bw2082 think she just isn't playing in that piece so she had to wait for the next piece
she is so impressed hahaha
The soloist is Elmer Churampi. He is from Peru.
that's quite amazing playing this piece so well on a B flat trumpet
Isn't this supposed to be played on a B flat trumpet? Please give me some infomation
m nm the concerto was written for an E flat trumpet
@@ianbruns7103 the concerto was written in E for E trumpet but is now more commonly played in Eb because of the prevelance of Eb and Bb trumpets
It’s easier on the Eb Trumpet than Bb.
Perfect tone. I think that we will be hearing much more from Mr Churampi from here on out. Geez louise, I only wish had that as a youth!
Elemer Churampi. Felicitaciones. Orgullo peruano
I never knew that a trumpet could sing so beautifully
That was great to see and hear! Right from the begining the warmness of the sound, singing style with proper articulation in every note beeing performed in Tune all the time. Thank you, mr Churampi. Greetings from Nothern Europe, Finland.
Great sound! Flawless technique! Have played this many times! Can still finger it but can’t play anymore! Joyous music to perform!
The trumpet player is Peruvian. I’m glad to see another Peruvian doing great in the music world! 🇵🇪 :)
Viva el Perú, señores!!
That kid is in control. He's not just another musician. He's a master, and everything about him says so.
este chico es una joya . LA TROMPETA MAS PURA DE LOS LOS 30 AÑOS CONOCIDOS.
legend has it, they already have 15 children
wow that escalated...
That's goofy. He has A little sister. And she needed two surgeries on her lip. Mother must have lacked prenatal vitamins with Folic Acid during pregnancy. A real problem in 3rd world countries.
2:10 Is it just this lady's job to stare at him the entire solo?
entire piece*
She doesnt even play for half the time, she's just staring at him.
@@jacobt8347 lmao Elmer is extremely prestigious and is very young. The girls might as well go after him before he makes it big
we are
@@colinaviation his solo is basically the whole music piece lol
wow,i love his sound.So,colourful
Congratulacions, Marvellous.
i will cry if I will ever see him
I just read an article about him in the newspaper in Lima Perú. Nice story, so proud of this young man.
How nice to hear a natural exceptional articulation for this piece. It also sounds so much better on a Bb there are too many tin whistles out there playing C's. Also well controlled timing, as fast as everyone else but doesn't sound rushed.
There is a big name international soloist on youtube who plays this on a C and it sounds horribly rushed, this is so much better!
What a brilliant sound!
And today, July 26th 2018 He is going to play in my city, Tacna - Perú, I'm so excited!!
I just wanna know why on earth someone would dislike this video
Elmer churampi!! bravo salu2 desde CD. MÉXICO!! hermoso sonido !!!!
On a b flat too... damn
I don't get it. Why does everyone think it's harder to play this on a b flat? I've never played a C, D or E flat trumpet. Inform me please?
People have a notion that the other trumpets are better. I personally think that's BS, and that each type of trumpet have a different sound and qualities that can be used for different situations.
@@aaronwhite02 Eb trumpets tend to naturally have a lighter and brighter sound. The difficulty of playing the Haydn/Hummel etc. on Bb is not in the notes themselves but playing them stylistically correct - on a Bb it is easy to play things too heavily - the passage leading up to the high concert Db in the first movement of the Haydn is a good example. So it tends to be played on Eb trumpet to make life easier. That said, a lot of orchestras ask for the Haydn on Bb in auditions these days, so players have to be able to do most things on most equipment, it's just a case of making life easier
@@mattjackman1206 Thanks for letting me know.
@@romanmohylevyts it's not .
Bravo! Amazing job to Mr. Churampi and the orchestra!
This guy has a future. What a performance. Great!

Realy, realy good!!! Great sound on the b-flat!!

Maravilloso!...no hay igual.
He play 1:36 so well!
