There is a great video of this young man doing a master class on Mahler 5. He plays a C trumpet with such a powerful sound that you could mistake it for a B flat. Here he plays a B flat with grace a lightness of a smaller horn. That's pretty fantastic.
yeah Ive seen that video, its funny to hear the mic on the camera or wherever they're recording it from dim when he plays because its so loud and awesome
Eric Daniel It’s actually easier to achieve a more powerful sound on a C trumpet due to its larger bore usually and simply less tubing that’s why they’re used in orchestras!
So much to like here - flat-out incredible playing, that he used a Bb (!!!), the talented orchestra - but the very best thing here is the reaction of the orchestra at the end. This wasn't just camaraderie or cheering for a classmate, they seem genuinely happy for him. Instruments on their laps, clapping, stomping, whooping, big smiles, love and admiration all around. I'd pay to see more of that these days.
I don’t think I’ve ever been as blown away by someone’s concert tone as much as this guy’s, absolutely brilliant! Also some of the cleanest double tonguing I’ve heard. This will most certain help me with my play through on this. If only I could play it as well as he did.
@@ArieAGinting I would second this opinion, it looks like the Oboe to her left was looking to her in the corner of his eyes to make sure he was coming in on time. The rest of the line followed.
If you are ANY instrumentalist in ANY orchestra, regardless of whether you are a first chair wind or fifth stand violin, you should not count resting measures, period! Just like the conductor memorizing the ENTIRE score of any given piece, you, as an instrumentalist need to be so familiar with your part (read: memorize it) to the extent that you know exactly when to come in throughout the piece's entirety without relying on counting measures of rest...it's that simple.

People have a notion that the other trumpets are better. I personally think that's BS, and that each type of trumpet have a different sound and qualities that can be used for different situations.
@@aaronwhite02 Eb trumpets tend to naturally have a lighter and brighter sound. The difficulty of playing the Haydn/Hummel etc. on Bb is not in the notes themselves but playing them stylistically correct - on a Bb it is easy to play things too heavily - the passage leading up to the high concert Db in the first movement of the Haydn is a good example. So it tends to be played on Eb trumpet to make life easier. That said, a lot of orchestras ask for the Haydn on Bb in auditions these days, so players have to be able to do most things on most equipment, it's just a case of making life easier
How nice to hear a natural exceptional articulation for this piece. It also sounds so much better on a Bb there are too many tin whistles out there playing C's. Also well controlled timing, as fast as everyone else but doesn't sound rushed. There is a big name international soloist on youtube who plays this on a C and it sounds horribly rushed, this is so much better!
That's goofy. He has A little sister. And she needed two surgeries on her lip. Mother must have lacked prenatal vitamins with Folic Acid during pregnancy. A real problem in 3rd world countries.
Noten en varias tomas las caras de gracia que hace la chica de la fila de las flautas... Parece ser demasiada música para este excelente trompetista.... Saludos desde Ecuador.. !!!!
That was great to see and hear! Right from the begining the warmness of the sound, singing style with proper articulation in every note beeing performed in Tune all the time. Thank you, mr Churampi. Greetings from Nothern Europe, Finland.
People keep saying "Oh wow, even on a B-flat." Well, if you look into the music, it's written for a trumpet in that range, not an E-flat, like Haydn's concerto. I'm impressed with his playing too, don't get me wrong, but the fact that he played this on a B-flat instrument is not all that significant to the performance. That being said, that was an amazing performance by Elmer Churampi and he's quite the player especially for his age. Bravo to him and props for really putting the work in to rise to such a level.
i think its because of the tonality of a Bb trumpet compared to an Eb, the Bb has a much more full and heavy sound compared to an Eb trumpet which is very light. its impressive because he made the Bb trumpet sound so light

The guy has the best articulation and sound and clarity I’ve ever heard
Then you should go and look für Mathias höfs
You never heard hans gansch right?
Nah. Better than most however
His attack isn't flawless. It's probably good enough for any chair in any orchestra, but there are soloists with better articulation.

My c trumpet is so damn sharp all the time I have to adjust the slide a lot unlike how my b flat slide is stuck and it doesn’t even need it moved
