  • JR Markle of Markle Jiu-Jitsu demonstrated this very effectively at the IBJJF Austin International Open over the weekend. Markle, a BJJ black belt, competed in the Master 3 division at the event and ended up inside his opponent’s closed guard.

    Had a brown belt instructor do this choke to me all the time. We just called it a bully choke.

      I know but that's why you need to put the legs in the hips and push hard

    • @MicNantel

      @@GMunoz-oj5zb If you do it right, the choke that is, you push up behind the leg and above the knee so they can't clear their feet. I figured out somethign that works for me, I pull him in closer with legs and hip all the way up so I am taking his full weight on my shoulders and the direct of the choke is into my jaw (sucks). When I do that they are pretty quick to pull their arm back because I can usually roll over into an armbar.

    When its early you go for the armbar, when it's late you just give up the pass to side control. When it's really late, you tap or go out.

    Push/pull choke. This one can be deadly effective to force movement. I asked my Coach Jay Penn (BJ’s brother) what to do from guard. He told me to place my feet on the top player’s hip bones, lift him up, and either sweep to a mount or armbar. It’s worked for me without fail ever since to either successfully sweep, or get the top player to release the choke to regain balance and re-establish a grip. I’m no where near the level of black belch, tho, and neither were my opponents. I’m guessing early awareness of the too player’s hands on your coller and anticipating his coming choke so you can be ready as soon as his knees leave the ground, to pit your feet on his hips, is a huge factor in the success of the defense. It can’t be after the choke is already in. Stephan Kesting has a tutorial on his UA-cam channel with this exact choke. Tripod to push pull choke.

      Its hard to see at first view but the space to get the feet in was crowded by top players hips.

      @jakubnezadam2363 2 роки тому

      @@angelwalkwithme no it was not, if u go with any hard experienced judo guy, he will definitely try this on you. The problem was that the bottom player focused so much on his close guard, almost like he thought that will make him submission free. There was so much time to open up one side and just put his foot into the hips. Clearly big mistake, hope he will learn his lesson

    • @angelwalkwithme
      @angelwalkwithme 2 роки тому

      @@jakubnezadam2363 I agree that his focus was misplaced but I've had this thrown on me a few times and it is not always that easy to just put the feet right onto the hips. To get the feet in you often need to slide your knees in front of the hips first to make space before you can get the feet in.

    • @marklebjj
      @marklebjj 2 роки тому +1

      2 reasons. First he can’t just back out with my collar grip unless he broke it. Second my thigh is acting as a shelf to keep his hips elevated and makes it easier to stay square. Most black belts would have got that pass and proceeded to try and bore the hell out of everyone by stalling and winning by points… I am not that guy 😆

      Dont learn this shit as a submission.
      If you want to use this try and use it as a way to open the guard. You are never going to sub anyone who knows anything from guard with that "choke". Maybe some children and women may get choked from this if they are much lighter than you.

    When someone chokes you like this, grab over the hand that’s pushing down on your neck with both hands and pull it to your chest. Rinse and repeat. He’ll stop trying it and move on to something else. This guy didn’t even attempt the escape. He was thinking only of getting the armbar and let himself get choked.

      I like. I used the following: Closing the guard again and hipping up hard, almost vertical so you can use your guard to push the pressure away, it moves his weight off your neck to your shoulders. Warning, his fist will be on your jaw, so start squirming. SOURCE: getting hit with this by our club thug 3 times made me figure out that way out. lol
