Since someone wants to generate some rumor mills, I may throw this into the hot sauce as well: Vancouver interested in Stamkos (no proof, nothing at all. Just for fun).
To call it a "report" is a bit much. Even the guys you quoted said it's a rumor. $4m a year though? Seems a little much. But the folks characterizing Yzerman as someone who typically signs bottom six players to big money deals is also a bit much. We do have a few players who need to find their way off the roster (Holl, Copp), so if Stevie can find a buyer for our broken toys, maybe we can spend a bit extra on someone like Joshua? That's just me though.
You're overlooking his non points producing work. He's checking, blocking shots, and turning momentum around most games. When he's in the lineup and healthy, he's often working with Garland to turn the team from on their heels and under pressure to backing the other team in and putting them under pressure. Even when he gets no points for that, so you can't really measure that in stats. Its something you just have to watch him play game after game and see him doing these intangible things. The stats can lie.
Ah the good ol paying for intangibles lol. Garland makes him effective. Without him, he's actually just a typical bottom 6 forward. 4m for him is music to Bennings ears. Even advanced analysis shows he is far worse without garland. Remember he's the guy that came into camp out of shape, despite Tochett emphasised on it to end the year and most of the players worked their asses off in summer and came to play to have one of the best seasons in franchise history.
Isnt this the same argument for Copp? He is great defensively, but at the cost of offense. Not sure im that high on getting him. Im hoping for less free agents and more growing the franchise with AHL players, imo.
@@Seriously_Unserious he has made some mistakes, but every gm does. Its easy to look at everything in hindsight, im just not a fan of overpaying for another mid to bottom guy, especially for term.
Trade Robby Fabbri and its basically even as far as salary goes. Plus you'd probably be getting a more consistent defensive player that can put up similar point totals.
People can try to dog SY all they want on how hes over paid for later talent. Detroit is going to be a juggernaut in a few years... they have a bunch of young skilled talent to go along with the number #1 prospect pool so its coming, sorry.
If SY can sign Mo and Raymond and still have room left for this it doesn't sound so bad. Either way I don't think anyone can blame him for doubling his pay. Who wouldn't?
He gets paid more then does not have chemistry with new linemates as he did in Vancouver , people go sour fast.. I like Joshua and he has great chemistry with Garland. To some extent Lindholm. How much does one pay for a good third liner.. The Sedins had Anson Carter and because he played with the Sedins he had a career year. He wanted a big raise.. He never had that kind of success anywhere else. Besides he has a pretty big fan base in Vancouver. Or most of BC .I really don't know if he has become a good professional who can play anywhere.. Hope he stays and developes more..
From comments I have seen online, $4M is too much for the Canucks to pay Joshua. If so, there is nothing wrong with telling him he is asking for too much and parting ways! I don’t blame him for going for the most money he wants but the Canucks doesn’t have to pay that
@@willsmithmachine5244 it really isn’t a factor of him being better then copp. It’s what is needed by the wings. Right now they have 1 first line center and 3 3rd line centers. Therefore would need to move one of the 3 first line
I never blame a player for trying free agency for a bigger contract. Hopefully Joshua gets as much money as he can. A player's career is short, dangerous, and can end at any moment.
On the other hand, I also don't blame a player for taking a discount to stay with a team he's got chemistry with and is on the rise. Player often have competing desires, such as making as much money as they can while they can, getting long term stability (like what Zedorov values most), or being on a winner (Petterssons big ask). Many players are willing to sacrifice one or more of these things to get what they want most.
@@Seriously_Unserious you dont get paid 11.6 million dollars to excel on a sheet of ice against gladiators. his main focus should becoming a gym rat , not Fortnite.
Fischer seems like a good stop gap for now. Cheap contract, did decent for what was expected. Unless we bring up another rookie for cheaper, I say keep him there for another year
I just hope it’s not an over pay like Copp or Compher. He is a 3rd or 4th line center. Stevie Y has a problem signing guys who underperform for their salary.
Just speculations I guess. Is Yzerman the next Jim Benning who likes to hand out contracts to free agent bottom 6 guys like handing out Halloween candies?

Point and games seems to be all anyone looks at anymore. Detroit has plenty of scoring especially if Kane is returning what they need is defense.

probably just the agent covertly starting a rumor in order to create pressure and inflate his player's price

Joshua is a good player but some of his success is do to Conner Garland . Everyone remembers Anson Carter and the Sedins
I’m not entirely sure about the money, until I listen to the list of things he is vs the list of things the Wings need.
SY doesn't typically respond to rumors. Fishing expedition by DJ's agent.

Happy for Joshua, just hope for Yzerman's sake, Detroit has a Garland lookalike.
3.2 mil for Assmussen and 4 for another similar player?!
I not sure that the right move at that price. But for the right I would take him over Spong and Perron
Please no. We don’t need another Andrew Copp.
