You forgot to tell everyone to tighten the 2 small Allen screws around the housing to the shaft. I didn't do that and when it was all assembled the black knob, even though the Allen screw for the knob was tightened to the shaft, it would spin without hitting the physical stops on the butterfly cap. As a result I had to take it apart to get at and remove the butterfly cap. Once it was removed from the housing I could gain access to those two small Allen screws. After I tightened those screws I could feel the physical stops when I turned the black knob.

Thanks for that feedback @MacsForever1. I tightened the top right when I added the pigtail...didn't think to check the bottom left.
Mine is working fine, i.e., turning and hitting the stops, so I am good. Your input will be helpful if anyone has follow up questions experiencing the same issue you did. Appreciate you sharing the detail. Gonna pin to the top so others can see.
Mine might have been a fluke that was not tighened but it's good to double check the cap while it's out of the housing to be sure.@@HOAHamRadio
Mine was tight, but I could not feel the physical stop on full open. My cap is damaged. Expensive discovery 😢
They should be able to send you another one under warranty. I'd reach out to them...@@wa6smn
Thank you. I've got the kit and was downloading all the photo's I could to put this together. You've just saved me from potential headaches.
Precisely why I started my UA-cam channel....I was hoping to be able to help others from my experiences and things I am and have learned.
I was watching you separate and organize all the pieces to the kit. It reminded me of myself organizing the parts so I could assemble the HealthKit radio I just bought. I used a muffin tin to separate the different items. Something to consider next time.
For sure, good idea! Thanks for watching.
It’s a very nice kit I picked mine up Labor Day weekend and I got the Labor Day discount shipped to my address. It was $293 and it only took about 30 minutes to assemble and 10 minutes later I was making contacts. super easy kit just follow the pictures
By the way, great videos i follow you and keep up the good work
Thanks for the feedback. Now that mine is built, I need to get out and play with it a bit. Hoping maybe to get a POTA in next week.
Thanks for the assembly video. I just saw it on Chameleon website yesterday and couldn't believe it.
I kept thinking there was some catch to it -- but there wasn't.
Cha equipment has always been out of my budget, but this one is a winner.
I'm going to order one today before they run out.
Its the real deal. I couldn't believe it either. For 30 minutes of your time (maybe 45 after set up, break down, tool put away) its a good buy.
As always, good content. This may be in my future.
Thanks for the view Outlaw; hope all is well with you.
Great. Video! Love your channel.
I bought the DIY Cha Loop 3.0 about 6 += months ago. I was so excited that I could afford a CHA antenna at the lower price.
It will not tune 30-10 meters at all.
I think the switch is defective. One of the pins is loose. I contacted Chameleon and told them about the problem.
They said I had to send it back to them on my dime and give them another 80-100 or so for them to fix it.
I do realize there was no service that came with this purchase. But I could have bought an assembled unit for the extra money I'll need to spend fixing this one.
I was so disappointed I put it back in the box since then.
Well, I got it out and tried to see if I could do anything myself.
Question: Does anyone know where to get another switch?
Another great video! Unfortunately, this one is about a month too late for me. 😅
I bought this diy kit during the Labor Day sale because I just couldn't pass it up with the 20% discount. I searched the net for videos like this one, but none existed at the time. Even still, it's very easy to put together following the pictures on Chameleon's website. It only took about half an hour. I had one issue with the kit, one of the loop brackets had the holes for the SO-239 different than the holes in the case. There were even marks on the bracket from a marker showing where the holes should be. But it was an easy fix. I just drilled two new holes in the case using the bracket as a template. Other than that, it is an easy to build kit. And a great antenna too!

Thanks for the view and feedback on your experience; hoping to get out with it in the field this weekend and give it a go.
Great video!
Thanks for watching and commenting...
Hi Bob - I’m really enjoying your channel. That kit does look easy to assemble, but I couldn’t find it on Chameleon’s website.
@MrStanwyck I see that as well. I believe it might have been a limited stock item for them. They sold out fast after the video, then went back in stock again. I'll check with them and see if they have any plans to bring it back.
@@HOAHamRadio thanks Bob. I would consider getting one to build this year if they bring it back. Have a good evening…
The Kit is BACK IN STOCK on our website!
@@Chameleon_Antenna I already snagged one. Thanks to Carl for getting it back on the site.
Always Be Knolling!!!
Can’t help myself, don’t even realize I’m doing it. Always glad when TO stops by for a view.
Great video. Kit went together fine. Missing 1 flat washer. Bad news...I opened the capacitor too far. No mechanical limit. Destroyed the cap. I will be paying for my mistake with a full disassembly and cost of a replacement assuming Chaneleon will sell me a replacement.
Oh no! Keep me updated on the outcome.
@@HOAHamRadioChameleon has shipped a replacement capacitor. The friction clutch in the reduction drive should have slipped at the limits. I expect to return the damaged cap for an engineering post morten.
@@wa6smn Chameleon is top notch!
The replacement cap arrived with wires & ring lugs. Re-used plastic base and screws. Fully assembled now.
@@wa6smn Fantastic! Fully enjoyed the build now have to get some RF through it.
Unfortunately they don't sell this DIY kit any more :(
It's still showing listed; sometimes they stock out. Maybe they'll bring it back...it seems quite popular.
@HOAHamRadio I reached out to the company, and their response was, "I do not think we will be bringing that back anytime soon." Would love to have one here in SRQ 😊
