I have been using this model since the spring. and its amazing. used it for steelhead and bass. handles all sizes of fish no problem. very comfortable handle, much better than the past ones. paired it with a vanquish, just perfect.
Would you throw a 1/8oz ned rig around grass with the 7' light? I keep hearing that the 6'10" ML is too soft to pull fish out of grass, and that this one is oddly more powerful. I'm thinking the 7'2" ML would have a hard time casting something that light as people say it's more like a medium.
I just ordered the Expride Medium/Heavy, pairing it with my Stella FK 4000 with 15lb Power Pro SS v2. Should be stellar ✨️ 👌
I’m so excited for the new Expride B and because I have the Poison Adrenas with the monocoque handle, I knew these rods would be awesome, I have done excellent also with the world minnow, world diver( caught 2 at once) and the world pop. I have other new Shimano lures but haven’t used them just yet… Thanks for your content, it is definitely some of the best, and I trust your opinion to be right on.🎣🙌
Appreciate it Will and good to hear the World Lures are rocking it for you!
Just subscribed , I have a few expride b’s rods on the way right now . 7ft medium spinning “ back ordered until July 24th” , 6’10 medium casting , and a 7’2 medium heavy should be here Tuesday . Can’t wait , I use to have a zodias 7ft medium casting. Regret selling it big time . Hopefully these exprides don’t disappoint .
Check out the Curado rods as well. Inventory is tough all around, more so on the higher end models. The Curado series is the sleeper IMO
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors they kinda remind me of the first gen zodias just with a hook keeper . Looks like a winner for that price point .
Is the 7' medium a true medium or is that rod slightly overpowered as well?
Excellent review 🎣🍻
Recently started subscribing to your channel, and I’m loving the content, JP. Super informative, realistic and applicable know how. Thought I’d try reaching out for an opinion. I’m a Georgian bay guy, and looking to change up my drop shot setups. I had the 7’ light B in hand over the weekend and was super impressed. But they didn’t have the 7’2” ml in stock for comparison. If you had to pick 1 for drop shot specific, typical Great Lakes finesse, 1/4 to 3/8 oz, which would you suggest?
Cheers!
I prefer the 7’ L to the 7’2” ML for drop shotting. It’s a really great rod for that and also throwing light jig head/minnow /Swimbait presentations.
Thank you for the content. I discovered the Expride A line a couple years ago. 5 of the last 7 rod purchases have been Exprides. I have a 7’7” heavy as well but so far I’ve only used it for S-waiver and A-rig. What else does that rod excel at?
It's my favorite Jig/Milfoil dunking rod and is an incredible slop frog rod!
JP, great videos!
What technique would you use the EXC173XHB rod?
My thoughts are flipping jigs or swing head Biffle Bug
Both would work! I use mine for punching and flipping mostly
Just ordered up the 7’2 MH RF 2pc casting rod as my pack/easy transport rod!
That will be awesome!
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors wish Shimano would bring over 2pc versions of the expride. Hard to find a quality 2pc rod since St Croix stopped there Avid X line. BTW my 901S+ is awsome!
I need a spinning rod for drop shot and Neko Rigs specifically. I only fish largemouth lakes and mostly cast in open water/some cover --prefer rods 7' to 7'4 in length. 2500-3000 series reel------Will probably use 10-12 lbs braid mainline to a Flouro leader 8-12 lbs. using a FG knot----what EXPRIDE rod should I purchase?
Try the 7’2” Medium Light Expride. It will fit the bill perfectly for what you want to do
Great video. Would you suggest this model for Trout fishing? I typically fish small streams and rivers using bobbers, drifting or jigging. Contemplating about pairing this rod with a Vanford 2000 HG. This will be my first finesse rig. Thanks.
May be a bit stiff for that application. You will want something more parabolic, especially when float fishing. Check out the G. Loomis GCX Lite series or TSR series if you are fishing smaller trout and other species in streams.
After spending a few months with the new 7’2 ML, I definitely believe it’s stiffer than the 6’10 ML Expride A. It feels more like a Medium power. Would you say that the 7’ Light feels more like a Medium light?
That would be a fair statement. I consider it more like a L++ or a ML-. 😂
I have both the old and new 7' light rods. The newer one like a standard ML power spinning rod. I miss the lighter power of the older one, BUT I love the new one too. The newer version is less special of a rod, but it's excellent and I love fishing with it.
How well would you say the 7'2" throws 1/8oz? I'm looking for a ned rig rod, and I keep hearing that it's more like a medium.
Hi …would this be suitable for 4 inch senko fishing
Very!
I want a 7'2" MH spinning for trout reds and snook but no reviews. I use the Zodius and it's my favorite rod . Want something a little beefer .
I haven’t fished the 7’2” MH but I have played around with it and it has more beef for sure. I really don’t own any spinning rods over Medium and most are Medium Light for what I do.
How much pp v2 are you able to get on the exsence?
Great video man. Question what braid brand is that sir
The 5lb is regular original Power Pro (white one) and the Green on the Exsence is 8lb PowerPro Super8Slick V2 in moonshine
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors Awsome see up man! Thank you for answering my question
Sorry about asking all these questions - But I do have one last one on this rod - Do you believe it can handle fishing a 5" Senko, texas rigged. Or, is that asking too much of this rod. If so, would the 7'2" ML Expride B be more suited to an all around rod ( i.e.light drop shot to 5" senkos)? Thanks again - Look forward to hearing from you
I think that is a bit too much for this rod or even the 7’2” ML. When you Texas rig a bait, the hooks are typically a little thicker in diameter plus you have to deal with setting through the plastic of the bait. I would go with a 7’ medium for that and if you are throwing it into the weeds and wood, bump up to a MH if targeting bigger fish!
A 4” open water wacky rigged senko I have done with this combo. Nothing beyond that!
Watching from Philippines, master. Tight lines
The 7’ Light has quite a bit of backbone. I have thrown 1/8 quite a bit with it and no issues. I like the 7’2” ML for that as well because when you add in the weight of the ned itself, the plastic and jig head far exceed 1/8
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors Thanks for the response. I don’t mean to pester, but just to clarify, you would feel comfortable using the 7’ L around cover? The reason I ask is 1/8oz is at the lower end of the lure rating of the 6’10” ML, but people say it’s too soft to fish around cover.
Think I'll pick one of these up to be a lighter compliment to my megabass orochi shakey head... for some slightly lighter drop shot presentations!
Would appreciate your personal opinion on which rod would be best suited - Shimano Expride B 6'10" ML or the Shimano Expride B 7' L - for smallmouth drop shotting on rocky/boulder bottom clear northern lakes - from app 6' - 30' . At this point, my preference would be to use as much of an all around rod (vertical, drifting, casting) as opposed to a single technique rod. Mostly 1/8 - 3/8+ oz weight. Thank you.
I would use the 7’ light for drop shot especially with those weights. I use it even for deep water with 1/2 and 5/8 oz weights
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors Thanks for your feedback J P - I very much appreciate you getting back to me so quickly. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Take care
Went out fishing over 4th of July weekend with family and had my new Expride 7' M with the new Sustain using a shakeyhead. First fish on that setup happened to be a 40+ inch musky 🤣 nothing like seeing your new rod bent in half and drag screaming. At least now I know it is the real deal.
It's funny because the first fish I caught on my NRX 872 S was a 10+ lb steelhead on a ned rig..
Can't catch my target species but I know my shimano and gloomis rods can handle the biguns!
😂good way to test your gear for sure!
I've been looking for someone with some knowledge on the 7' m. Is it a true medium or is it more on the mh side?
@2AAllDay I think all the exprides are stiffer because of the high power x. You can definitely cast 1/8 to 1/4 weight but it's not loading the tip fully. Its very similar to old expride but a bit stiffer. I have the 7'2" ML and that is better for lighter lures, drop shots, ned rigs, small swimbaits. The 7' M is good for shakeyheads and you can definitely throw a weightless senko but the tip just doesn't load fully. It is a powerful rod but I like the monocoque handles.
@@Shawn_Lai I appreciate the reply. I'm up in the air between the 7'm and the 7'2 ml for senkos and light texas rigs. I already have a dedicated drop shot rod. Since you have both, which way would you go. Thanks for the help.
@2AAllDay no problem. If you want t-rigs, senkos, skipping docks, or cover, the 7' M is where I would go. Both backbones are strong so you can lean on em but the 7'2" ML is nice for 1/8 to 3/8. 7' M says 3/16 on low end and that is possible if you have a bigger plastic. Both the backbones are strong, but just imagine the ML have the softer tip because of the 2 inches. The musky I caught on my 7' M on 10 lb line was at the base of a tree and I was able to lean on it with the rod bent sucking drag, but I could still move it. On the ML it would be more of a hold on for the ride.. But yeah both can do what you are looking for, I think it's more what cover you will want to use it for and lure weight.
When I checked the action of my OG 7' M and the B, there is definitely more power in the tip. Also the ML is a bit more moderate than 7' M so that will also play into it. If you're using t rig and senko the 7'M will probably drive the hook easier than the 7'2" ML which is great at setting ned rig and ds hooks. Sorry for the long response and not really an answer, but hope this helps!
Hi. Have really found your videos to be very helpful and I appreciate your tutorials and reviews. Looking for my first finesse or drop shot rod to pair with a new Vanford 3000. Leaning toward the Expride B or the St Croix. But, I noted in a photo of an Expride B, a ‘made in China’ declaration. Is this true?
Yes, I believe the Exprides are made in one of Shimano factories in China.
Hmm. Well that gives me pause. I guess I like the St Croix, made in the USA and their 15 year warranty. Thank you sir.
@@cgc6761st Croix legend tournaments bass rods are hands down better, no question.
I ordered a 7M Spinning. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the new grip.
New grip? The soft touch was on the last gen as well. Unless you mean the new handle shapes, which BTW are much nicer!
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors yes the new handle. There’s more cork ahead of the reel seat and a 2-finger contour in the plastic. Seems taken directly from G Loomis which seems like a major upgrade. It’s my favorite spinning grip by far
I already have a 6'10" med- zodias but I'm looking for a lighter action to add. Mostly for finness bass baits 1/6-1/4 oz. But I would like it double as a crappie rod & throw 1/1/-1/8 crappie jigs. I already have a 2000 vanford I can pair with it. Can the exspride B 7' light throw 1/16 crappie jigs? Or should I just get a ultralight
The 7’ Light Zodias or Curado rod are actually lighter than the Expride for power and would do a better job of throwing a 1/16
Hey J.P. , do you believe the spinning rods to be slightly more parabolic as well or just the casting rods?
Really depends on the model but under full load, yes. I feel like the Hi Power Blanks have always had that nice crispness under light load but can absorb a lot due to a more parabolic bend when fighting fish or throwing big lures, ever since I fished the original Zodias and Expride blanks
So I’m torn, should I just opt for the A series if I’m mainly light-line drop shot fishing and throwing finesse hard baits as low as 1/10 and 1/8 of an oz ?
If you can get an original they are definitely lighter by a bit but I have had to problems with the new one other than the fact that they are a touch heavier in power. Taper is the same and they are handling the micro cranks and finesse baits really well.
What's the lightest weight you can throw with the B 7' light? Could it throw 1/16 oz crappie jigs??
If your line is light enough, yes but the Zodias and Curado ‘ light are better at lighter weights as the B generation of Expride has more power in the Light power 7’
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I got my 7' light Expride B in, paired with a 2500 vanford & 7lb floro I can cast 1/6- 1/8 oz baits very well. Which is what I was wanting to add to my line up anyways
Gotta 2500 Stradic on the way and I’m debating on IMX-Pro 7’4”or 7’5” vs Expride 7’2” ML. Any suggestions
IMX PRO 892S JWR would be my choice but the 7'2" Expride ML is a nice rod as well.
What would you consider best shakey head(3/16) spinning rod in expride b models
7’2” ML Spinning would get my vote. I’m not big on short rods like traditionally used with Shakey.
i have older expride and i just got the new one... the new one still feels that bit stiff but it loads and bends much better.. i noticed this expride are more then for a power fishing style good back bone.. the previous ones felt a bit more on the stiffer side and this new ones are perfect... if you like to power fish exprides are the ones to go ... it also like to be more on the heavy side of throwing the lures...fits my needs of fishing ... and by the way did your come in a fancy nice carry sleeving case and has a like leather expride shimano logo on it ? order mine from japan its a BFS ML NO no hooker keeper
No cover but yes on the hook keeper.
Thanks for the vid. I would emphasize more the power difference between the Expride B and A series. I purchased the Expride B light, partly based on this review, and it is squarely a ML, if not a ML+. Nothing light about it (except the weight). I’ve heard similar experiences about the Expride B ML, i.e., it is really a M and not a ML. Buyers beware.
I don’t think there’s anything to be weary of and that why I mentioned them being a little heavier in power but the thing for me is the taper fishes a lot like the A version and if you know they are slightly heavier out of the gate you can adjust your selections. It’s not on all models either, the L and ML are the two that changed in blank diameter for the most part
Yeah really...8.5k subs....smash that subscribe and hit that bell for notification! JP is the man on Shimano gear
Which is the best dropshot. does the 7'2ml work?
It would work very well. Very versatile blank actually
Im in south Florida. Im mostly a shore angler for Peacock Bass, Lm and other exotics. I need a spinning rod for throwing 3-4” soft swimbaits. Considering 6’9” or 7’0 zodias or the 7’0 M expride B. Thanks
Either will work. Just make sure it’s a Medium Power not ML or Light. What weight heads do you thrown them on? And is there structure like Mangroves or weeds that you have to muscle them out and away from?
1/8-1/4 oz. I think weeds are unavoidable in south Florida.
1/8-1/4 oz. I think weeds are unavoidable in south Florida.
Do you recommend sealing the cork on these rods?
I have never done it so I can’t really comment. I would be more concerned about it becoming slippery when sealed.
Would you be comfortable throwing an open hook drop spot with 1/4 is tungsten on this rod?
All day long
Use the ml expride B for trout in Quebec it can handle brookie and small lake trout with ease
Where can you get the white power pro v2?
Never see white V2 only regular and MaxCuatro from what I know. V2 is available in Moonshine (chartreuse), Light Green, Blue and Onyx (charcoal)
I'm looking for a twitchbait rod, which I would fit with the Stella FK C3000. Mainly for baits like Megabas Onten 14g, Lucky. C. Pointer 18g etc. Does Expride have a good model for that or a recommendation for another model from Shimano.
What length do you like to throw them on? And are you using braid to fluoro?
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I mostly use braid. Length approximately up to 2.2 m, but any other suggestion is welcome.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I mostly use braid. Length approximately up to 2.2 m, but any other suggestion is welcome.
@@MrHumangenetic From Shimano I would try the Zodias or Curado series in a 7' to 7'2" medium power. If looking at Expride I would say 7'2" Medium Light as the new gen have more backbone than the previous. I loomis I really love the GLX or NRX+ 852S JWR which is 7'1" medium but has that perfect tip section for working a suspending jerkbait!
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors thanks for the specific answers. I assume that this means that the new Expride 272MH2 up to 21g would not be a good solution. But I didn't have a chance to see that rod and I can't find enough information about it
What do you think about the 7’2” med light?
I really like it but feel like they have a bit more power than the rating. Other than that they are performing really well.
I have 2 of these, 7’ light Expride B, as well, but the lure rating on my rods is 3/32-7/16oz. I know on paper it’s 3/32-3/8, but what is the lure rating on your rods?
Long winded reply here and know I'm real late as it's an old video but felt whomever watched this in the future needed to see it
1) ignore it all, 7/16th is the 7ft light B model max weight rating if that's something you care about!
2) its tech a true med light. Ignore tbe 3/32 max lure rating! Or Heck just cast it once with a 3/16th oz shakeyhead and berkley maxscent mag hit worm lol. You'll instantly see what's up!
3) I have 2 B model 7ft lights aka med lights and 1 A model 7ft light!
A Model is my dedicated ultra light Ned rig/hover rig with 3/32oz core tackle head and 4 inch sakamata shad (down to my last 7 packs of my favcolor, and scared i wont see em again for years lol, becuz ... well Deps.. lol nuff said
4. I love the way my 2500 vannny feels on the B model but it's hideous and Mt OCD kicks in. So I run a 2500 twin power fe off my NRX+ on one and (I'm gunna get so much crap for this lol. But use a diawa 2000 kage (looks like a 1000, but personally saw my buddy/co angler reel in a 45+ lb carp foul hooked with my FG KNOT to 15lb power pro and 12lb mastiff flouro leader (shimanos mastiff is a game changber just fyi) so I was instantly sold!
All in all, these rods punch above the Croix legend tourny bass rods and into the mid 400$ rods easy!
Just gotta remember, 9/10 times if you miss a fish. It's not bc you didn't feel it lol I can feel their fins grow with these blanks that they won't tell anyone anything about other than "here's our hi power x rap to keep the rod from bowing out' hahahah id love to kmow material/graphite used from where, etc etc
But for now, enjoy a sub 300$ rod that punches with rhe heabyweights and dont look back!
What rod do you advise for pitching #6 Rippin Raps for walleyes?
What weight Rippin Raps? They have a pretty wide range!
For the big one I would go casting… something like a 7’2” MH but for general purpose the 7’2” medium will do a great job with its fast action.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors 1/2 oz. and 7/8 oz.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors 1/2 oz. for the number #6.
Are these new rods now available to purchase? If so, where?
Tough to find but yes, they have been for sale for a bit now.
610 medium casting..What is it good for?
Many consider that rod the best jerk bait rod but you can do lots of things with it. Just be sure to keep the lure offerings within the weight ratings on the rod to have the best performance casting and working the bait.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors thanks! Curious if the 610 medium will work well for cranking? I didn’t want to get the glass rod
The ratings on these rods are bonkers. I got them all to compare and kept the ones I liked. The 610ML is softer than this rod. This is more of a medium, it has the same backbone as the medium. The medium is actually stiffer than the MH in the tip. The 7'2ML is very similar to this but the balance is off at 7'2. There is nothing light about this rod, the 610ML is much much lighter through the blank.
So best option for throwing 1/15 neds??
Shared to 613BASS'N 😎
👍👏
Kinda lame they are made in China
Why is that lame?
May be made in China as many other rods believe Shimano has more
Quality control then a lot of other brands.
