- We replace and wire up a new Pentair Microbrite to replace a dead Globrite with Gunite Niche using a Pentair adapter. The Globrite are the worse LED light on the market at $500/each and designed to fail in 3 years. Everyone online has the same leaks and cracks we show in the video.

I like the class action lawsuit idea, 3 out of 5 of my globrites failed within 2 years
Yep there is a problem with the Globrite lights.
100 percent. They won’t warranty them either, I’ve had an open warranty claim for a year
@Workin1_az that only have like a 3 year warranty if installed by a builder. After that you’re SOL.
mine is just one month old and the spa light stop working, they are just crap.
Class action is dumb. We will get $2 each if we are lucky. Class action suits only benefit the legal team that brings the suit.
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. Much appreciated.
Amazing video brother! Love the detailed walkthrough, links to all the parts, ect. All of my 4 globrites have failed (3 years old), I ordered microbrites w/ adaptors this time and will be using your video to install next week. Thanks again!
Update, all 4 lights are now installed and working perfectly. I followed your video step by step and had zero issues, saved tons of $$$ in labor. Thanks again man!
Damn $1,600 for just lights 😬😬😬. Let’s hope the Micro last more than 3 or 4 years.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I learned a lot that will help with future installs
Excellent video sir. This saved me a lot of money as I had 3 lights to replace.
Incredibly done so informative.
That’s what happened to my globrite lights. The housing cracks and it’s done. They don’t last more than two years and are very expensive to replace. I’m going to try the micro brite light. I already have two out of the four lights out this year
Check my latest hack with $20 Amazon lights. It’s doing the job and I been turning them on about 4 hrs per night every night on home automation routine.
great job with this video!
Excellent video. Quick question - doesn’t the light need to sit in water to cool it?
Also and the most important I guess. I have raised the issue directly with Pentair customer support about the failure. My lights lasted less than 3 years. They have arranged to send me replacement Microbrites. Kudos to them for recognizing there is an issue with the product.
Most of the time the PB will warranty it. But if you DIY, out of luck.
Another tip run your globrites on 13-14v tap on xformer not the 12. After about 20-30 ft that 12v is going to be to low due to drop. Pentair even recommends putting it a higher tap always. They don't tell anyone this but I've had many reps via warranty work tell me this.
Thanks for the video and the instructions where amazing. I want to know if there's a tip to lock in the globate niche, since mine is loose. I try with the key that was included in the kit of the PentAir 618040 without success. Will appreciate any additional tip or trick to prevent the water to corrode the new Microbrite 620425.
Do you have to o rings in place? That provides the seal.
Thanks for this.
Pentair used to be top of the line, now they are just horrible. Globrite lights should recalled at minimum. But their warranty department just replaced them with more faulty globrites
Thank you for this video! I'm in the process of figuring out my options of reading one of my globrites. Is the micro as bright and did the microbrite come with all the hardware?
You saw it ? It requires a separate adapter, ~$25
Thanks for the detailed video. I ordered a Microbrite and will try to tackle this project this week. Question: Do the Globrites also sit in some kind of a plastic sleeve in which the Microbrite adapter snaps into or do the Globrites simply sit in a "concrete hole/opening? (Sorry if dumb question, but I havent seen yet what it looks like behind the Globrite and just curios what to expect when I get in there...)
The Globrites have a proprietary niche mount that twist locks to seal. The MicroBrite use a standard NPT thread into common pool pipe fitting. To use MicroBrite in old Globrite niche, you need their $15 adapter. It has two o-rings that seals the conduit once installed.
@@TunerwithKids Thank you.
Thanks for this great video! I have exactly the same problem with 5 failed globrites. Is the adapter required or can the microbrites be installed into the niche without the adapter? How has your experience been? Are the lights still working well and sealed? Are they as bright?
Need the adapter to convert. Do NOT get GloBrite. MicroBrite is way to go but $400/ea is too much. All my GloBrite are now completely dead. I’m just using the single Micro I installed and will just used Amazon rechargeable stick ons whenever I need light.
@@TunerwithKids That's interesting. Which amazon rechargeable stick-ons?
Haven’t decided yet. When I do, I’m probably going to mount the magnetic plate to the broken GloBrite lens. They are dead so probably drill into it😂. It’s ghetto but the cost/benefit of Pentair lights isn’t there for me. So much better things to spend $800 on.
Thanks, for the video. Instead of using silicone could I use clear glue as a sealant, thank you in advance!
Silicone is best for water resistance.
Have have 2 Globrite lights. 2 failed in 3.5 years.
I have 3 out of 3 Globrite failed. One went bad last year and I replaced it with another Globrite the other 2 failed recently. They were all install 3 years ago so one went in 2 years the other 2 went at the 3 year mark.
Straight garbage and $450/each isn’t a joke. It’s highway robbery.
mine died after 1 year if that. Just garbage lights. I took mine apart and made my own from landscape lighting.. Silicone the heck out of it. still working
Thanks again for the video. I successfully swapped one of my 3 Glo‘s to a Micro (the one in the spa is now the Micro) last weekend, however, the colors are pretty off. I hit the sync button on the app, etc. and at times the colors match, but say in Romance mode for example, the globrites in the pool will be blue and the microbrite in spa will be magenta…? I thought the colors will be off by a little bit but that‘s pretty drastic. Is there a way to properly calibrate them to match the colors better? I can‘t seem to find much info on that…any pointers appreciated.
I’m usually use ScreenLogic to sync but it’s a very rudimentary process of the controller cycling the relays to sync. My only thought is that the distance and voltage from transformer might be off. The low voltage has 3 voltage outputs and usually should be connected to highest output to avoid Voltage drops.
This is what I’m afraid of… I guess if you’re gonna do one just change them all.
Ok , I’ve done anywhere from 30-50 Globrites alone , yes they all end up leaking and are terrible lights , I haven’t yet used a microbrite in place of the Globrite . I’m curious , when using the adapter is it still a quarter turn to install ?
Yes. It’s an OEM retrofit so the adapter clips in same and new micro quarter turns into adapter. The micro also comes with a standard PVC threaded adapter for new installs.
How have your microbrites faired? I have 2 out of 4 of mine failed. They don't leak, the LED drivers on the light board burn out. I repaired one of mine, but it's a pain to do and finding the sealant they use inside the light is not easy. The other one I think I messed up the power circuitry in the body while I was testing, so that needs replacing.
still good after a year on the Microbrite. I just inspected it under water with googles the other day, no leaks.
The waterproof silicone is a really good idea! Thank you!!!
Great video! Are the lights still holding up? I'm having to replace 2 out of 3 lights and would like to make sure these are actually better than the GloBrites. They're definitely not cheap to have to replace every 2-3 years.
That one works well I turn on several hours a day. I also inspect with goggles and leaks. Check my more recent Amazon pool light video. I found a $20 solution.
Yes, Globrite are trash, I starter upgrading to Microbrite but it looks like is missing a trim around, is there any trim to make the retrofit looks nicer?, thanks
You need that adapter i used. That seals and also makes it fit into the proprietary niche for the glo.
So, with that light sealed off @ the other end how were you able to vacuum the line and get water out of it?
Vacuum didn’t work well, but vacuum on the reverse side (blowing) works. So you blow air into conduit until pool side is bubbling, the insert the light and lock it. Should clear out majority of the water.
@@TunerwithKids OK, that makes sense. Thank you!!
No need to vacuum the water lol it still gets in to cool the light
Seal the light with marine grade underwater silicone
I agree. If you are charging that kind of money for a product that is consistently failing, I believe a class action lawsuit is in order.
Either provide a quality product or drop the price so that they are affordable to change on a regular basis.
Use marine grade silicone designed for underwater applications
Home Depot sells them
they replaced the 2 that went out in 8 months, then warranty expired after 1 yr they said because I was an owner build even though I used licensed contractors...now 3 or 4 are dead after 2 yrs
Yo!!
I’ve watched your video 3x, and I’m serious about doing this myself. I’ve replaced the GloBrite lights 2x in 3 years.
I may need to chat with you about some details. Thanks
its not that hard, just follow my instructions and pull the string thru along with the cable. It helps to have a friend on other end though.
How are the microbrites doing now? Out of 5 lights in my pool I have 3 down right now. So frustrating.
Micro is working and haven’t seen any signs of issues. For the other two, I opted not to spend another $500/each. So went with a $20 Amazon single color. I’ll have an install video of that soon.
@@TunerwithKids I hear Jandy Hydrocool fit perfectly, but sadly cost just as much ($500+). It's so ridic these LED lights cost more than a decently sized 4k TV
Installed Amazon Waterproof LED
ua-cam.com/video/Q0EESY1oEqQ/v-deo.html
2 of my 3 just went out after 1 1/2 years...
I went crazy and did 22 Globrites in my pool. Within 2 years, 10 of them have gone bad
22!!??? That’s like $10k 😳😳😳😳
I have 87 globrites I've replaced since 2021. All cracked and water inside. The jandy hydrocool lights DO fit the globrite niche perfectly. They even make a P series to sync with easytouch intellicenter etc. they do work. I've done about 30 now. Much better lights. Globrites are terrible as are the microbrite. Also you can't prolong a light dude. They crack and let water in. There is no prolonging it.
87 u must be a pool tech. Cuz dzamn!! I seen the sr treo light also fit the globrite slots and have a 3yr warranty. Do all the lights work with the pentair controllers
Yeah. Same here . Horrible call Pentair and ask me all those questions
Check my latest hack with $20 Amazon lights. It’s doing the job and I been turning them on about 4 hrs per night every night on home automation routine.
pool full
Thanks for the video, greedy pool guys want between 250-350 a light to install.
Or just use the jandy series hydrocool lights. They make a p series which is Pentair's color scheme. They fit the globrite niche perfectly fine. And jandys regular white hydrocool fits as well. I have replaced over 100 globrites under warranty. Horrible lights. They crack in same spot along back. Get the jandys. Trust me. Better warranty and light. Will fit perfectly fine. Also silicone on a light is just absurd. Replace it.
Do the Jandys lock in just like the globrites?
Don't you mean the Globrite in your description?
"The microbrite are the worse LED light on the market at $500/each and designed to fail in 3 years."
Fixed. Thanks.
glowbrite have a design flaw... most wont last a year
Please don't add silicone to your lights. Water will get in there no matter what. Pool lights are water cooled. They rely on water to be around the fixtures. Yes even led lights. This is a good idea but a bad idea in reality. Also cut your old light cord and add the new cord to it and do one pull. Don't make it difficult for tourself
Lost all 4 in two years.
Your sealing efforts are comical. They are designed to be immersed, poolside and the backside. If the the sealed housing fails your silicone will not hold either in that environment. Stick to whatever it is that you do.
Yea. A for effort. The silicone just slows the inevitable failures with the Pentair.
A microbrite is just as bad. Both Pentair’s and microbrites fail also.
Yea I know, just hoping that the Micro last longer than 3 years. Build quality looks a little better than the GloBrite.
So what would be the better light to replace either globrite or microbrite then?
