I genuinely think this is some of my best playing to date, probably because this is one of the best amps to date :-)
When im sad i just watch reviews of high gain amps and some good old Chappy and Cappy vid.
@Ace Tripp hey ace! Your little scam dosnt work as well when you and homeboy post it on thousands of different youtube vids haha i give you clowns an A for effort tho....tell your girl stop fuckin around
I watched a documentary about these amps and evh said while he was testing then he'd set his guitar r in front of it and let it squeal for a month straight without it blowing up.called it crash testing
yep seen the same one. He would let it squeal for 30 days. Crazy huh, but hey, if its to stand the EVH test of quality .. then thats what must be done !
Any chance that's on UA-cam?

feline - and I thought my neighbors hated me
I played one of these at my local shop and the floor salesman wouldn't let me crank it. But, he said if I come back at closing when the place was empty, he would let me play it for a half an hour while he shut down the store for the night. I took him up on the offer. My hearing is not the same, neither is my definition of what high gain really is. Holy smoke, it is not just loud, it physically moves air! You feel it in your chest as much as you hear it with your ears. Incredible.
I dropped my phone and had to watch the video all over again wasn’t disappointed the second time either! I love my EVH 5150III ❤️
Funny you guys mention soldano... Eddie played soldano heads right before he teamed with peavey. Soldano filled the little gap between his Marshall and peavey. Great vid guys thanks!!
MuvoTX I think it was recording the third Van Hagar album that the Marshall started fading away, so he switched to Soldano. We won’t mention the name of the album for the sake of the kids.
This might be a bold call, but after watching this demo I was inspired to play this amp, so I went out and played one. My god, I think this is the best amp in the world right now , incredibly versatile and has amazing tones
I still remember when I first got my EVH 5150 III 100 watt, and I cranked the gain on channel one. One of the best blues/rock rhythm/lead tones I've EVER gotten! Channel two is straight up Van Halen 1 territory.
Good choice, you will NOT regret getting this head. I still hear the tone in my head when I first tried it,I never heard a head have such a sick tone.
just bought a pedal about 3 hours ago, super pumped for its arrival. Loyalty points are an epic idea Andertons!
I really enjoy your reviews guys, and the talking is product explanation and hilarious to boot. Dont change a thing and keep on reviewing!
Base on some comments, I guess this amp is not for everyone. I personally love it. It is the sound I've had in my mind over the last 10 years and could never find it. People!! you just need to buy what will produce the voices in your head!!
4:52 :: high fiver and no explosion sound design. I don't think I'm going to sleep well tonight.
WOW! That amp sounds insane on the 3rd channel, omgoodness. PERFECT leads and perfect metal tone. This video confirms my suspicion that I've been really wanting to trade off my Dual Rec for this amp.
Switch down volume up thats the way we like to pluck
Best amp I have owned hands down. I recently picked up the white ivory 50 watt version. To me, the amp resembles the Peavey 5150, and an ENGL of some sort. I love it!
The Holy Diver riff was simply genius and the stuff you played after, was really really nice :-)
Best of Both Worlds is a great tune... thanks Van Hagar
God, that thing sounds so MASSIVE. lol
Good morning Captain Lee an Chappers, Chappers i think EVH111 an yourself have never sound better through this amp then the rest that you demo truly sounded amaizing thank Rich from Ohio u.s.a.
Wow, finally an andertons video that sounds good. I dono, the videos before just sounded thin and not full, this demo sounds AWEEESOME.
Terrific amp and they are insanely loud. The 50w is amazing as well and you get midi. I play some large stages and even still, the volume on my 50w never goes above 10 oclock. Throw it on ch2 with slapback delay, plate reverb & seasoning of phaser or flanger and you have instant classic VH tone. Unreal tone.
Really entertaining as usual lads. Lovely guitars and a killer head. Thanks for publishing.
Cool stack. It's got good thump and strong drive in all gears without thinning out anywhere by the sounds of it.
I got to spend a couple hours with one of these when they came out. Loved it. It didnt lure me away from my ENGL but these EVH amps are absolutely godlike.
Holy Shiznit @7:25. That tone is legend-waitforit-DARY! Legendary!
after eddie left music man, they started producing the axis. it is the exact same guitar as the evh with only minor differences. the pickup selector switch was moved from the bottom cutaway to beneath the volume knob, the neck was widened (only slightly) at the 12th fret to prevent the high e from slipping off, and the pickups were modified so that they could be split.
The number of tubes is not necessarily an indicator of the amount of gain. It could be that the preamp valves are in independent circuits for each of the three channels. At least one of the 12AX7s will be a phase inverter, and at least one other will be a buffer for the FX loop. You can get insane distortion from just 4 gain stages (i.e. two 12AX7s).
I have the Wolfgang Special just like the one played (chinese version) and it is amazing. Plays as smooth as butter. Didnt have the 3grand for the American version but the chinese version is amazing. Plus you get the same sweet EVH case. Just happy as hell to have one. Quality is amazing plus the birdseye maple neck is a piece of art in itself, just beautiful.
Awesome amp with great cleans and fearce distortions and awesome guitar with awesome d-tuner and reverse toggle switch...
chappers, that hybrid picking like you did on the special blew my mind
These videos are so great, cheers for doing what you do!
Thanks. Rob, I'm gonna buy your demos on itunes, sounds truly awesome even from the previews
I played this amp. It's amazingly good.
lol I enjoyed how Capt. Lee was Lazy Susaning the Wolfgang while Chappers was playing
I have the EVH Wolfgang USA model and it is magnificent, and sounds incredible through any good amp, not just the 5150. Woo!
You know what dude.
Dio has always been a Legend, with a big fucking "Hell". your homage actually rocks.
Awesome, Holy Diver especially sounded great
Hey Chaps, You can't demo these amps and guitars without playing any classic VH licks as you would be playing 'Unchained', 'Somebody get me a Doctor', 'You Really Got Me' etc.
Ed used Musicman guitars based on a sport model with Peavey 5150 series 1 & 2 amps and then a Peavey 'Wolfgang' with Peavey 5150 series 2 amp. The man is a legend!!
One thing that helps make the guitars feel so nice is the frets. EVH went with stainless steel, makes playing leads and bending incredibly easy.
Price should be no object in achieving enlightenment with guitar tone :)
The lords of rock are back! Yeah babeh!
These amps sound very good. The clean on this amp will make you feel very inspired when you play. Channel two is my favorite channel. The gain on 2 is to die for and it just sounds full and rich with harmonics. Channel 3 is a little over the top and really even with the gain all the way down its still has allot of gain. All around its a great amp with all JJ tubes from the factory. That alone says quality. The footswitch is silent and the amp just sounds great. The 50 has one issue thats hard to overcome. Channel 1 and 2 share the same volume so thats a big problem. The volume jump is huge...
That amp is a power house! Very funny with the doll in the back LOL
great demo guys!!
I'm sorry, this has nothing to do with the video, well kinda. I usually skip the ad as soon as possible, but this one about the Hyundai with Metal Health playing just gets me every time!
i want this same color of evh , hope they start producing it
you are from Cardiff. That makes you amazing. Because i love torchwood and doctor who. I seem like a total fanboy which i am. But thats awesome.
This amp is exactly what the 5150 and 5150ii shoulda sounded like.
I just got this amp in 2020, its the best half stack ever made.
I have the stealth 100 . It’s an amazing amp . Great for live jams .
Thanks for the info, definitely going to consider buying a special now!
this is one of the best amp...
Yes! Once you cranked the gain, Soldano was exactly what I thought, all the balls and dry crunch, rawr!
Love your videos guys!! Specially when it has EVH gear. But, The Wolfgang Special is made in Japan.
That thing sounds beastly!
Excellent. The Japanese one's might become a collector's item then. Thanks for the info re: the 50 watt. That might well cost me some money down the line.
If you love this amp, PLEASE demo a SPLAWN QUICKROD...or Nitro...or Streetrod...or SuperSport. Made by Scott Splawn in Dallas, NC USA. Nails the EVH tone (and simply the best sounding amp tones in general IMO) unlike any other amp I've heard.
It would be epic to see Rob and the Capt demo a Splawn!
Love the only fools and horses take with the blow up doll
that has to be the coolest amp ever. wow
Rob,
a lot of people are saying that the 100w version is not as good as the 50w version. To me (comparing the sounds from your videos) the 100W head is way better. Why do you think that's the general opinion, and what's your take on it?
best amp i've ever owned by a mile
LOVE the tone :)
definitely one of my top 3 tube amps, after the Fredman BE and the Cameron CCV100 :)
These EVH amps really sound great. I'm really tempted to rob a bank or something and get the dough for a 50 watt head :)
This amp I think has an attenuator on the back, so you can dial it down to 1 watt or so. That would of let them use a lot more tube and not blow their ears out.
Its called a dime squeal, made famous by dimebag. You basically do a pinch harmonic on an open string and and drop the whammy bar down, decreasing the pitch :) Hope this helps
the best sounding and most versitable amp i've ever owned......and i've owned a lot. classic fender cleans and the drive channels are much tighter and less schrill than alot of the marshalls i've played. 2000g's is a lot cheaper than some of the boutique amps out there and this thing will run roughshot on 99% of them. it's a fucking monster.
The Special was made in Japan, I have a Japanese one & love it too. But the Japanese factory closed down & they're made in China now. I have a 50watt 5150 III that could possibly blow the windows out & really piss off the neighbours, but it sounds brilliant at low neighbour friendly volumes too.
yeah, i agree, guitar tone should be the only matter when choosing an amplifier, but many people choose the lower wattage, witch has a great tone as well, because of financial circumstances.
Dio sounded fantastic!
That thing sounds killer!!
killer ! James Brown rules the amp world ! :)
Awesome tone! I just wish they'd made a low wattage version, for bedroom players like me.
Honestly, I've been fooled more than once (once by Rob himself), that a Roland Cube was a much more expensive sounding amp than I thought. In a real world blind test, those have proven to be some of the best sounding combo amps money can buy. On the Andertons channel they show a guy shooting one with arrows and setting it on fire, and it still worked! The higher gain sounds aren't the best for straight metal stuff, but if you're just knocking about in your bedroom it's fine.
They are very very different. Not worse, not better, just different. What this means, you MAY like it much much better (I LOVE IT), The asymetrical neck profile is super nice. I also prefer smaller frets, so the EVH models (no matter which brand) are always "it" for me. Im a huge EVH fanboi, but I wouldnt buy his guitar simply because I like him.
Definitely try one out before buying one, but I understand thats difficult!
Hey guys, awesome review. What is the neck like on the new wolfies?
Are the vintage frets and compund neck a huge departure from strat style medium jumbo necks? Really want to get one but don't have a chance to play one in Cardiff. Thanks
I was hoping that you would have played some Van Halen, Zeppelin, ACDC...etc So we could hear what the amp sounds
like with the bands that play Classic Rock. I can't tell how the amp or speakers sound because you played Clean and just fooled around on it.
I would like a serious demo on the different sounds that the amp and cab can really make.. I'd like to buy an amp and cab very soon
and I'm interested in that EVH Rig. Thanks Joseph
I don't know much about amps, but you have to drive the tubes with this amp to get good distortion sounds, right? So i'm guessing the 50w version still wouldn't be good for bedroom practice, since it would be too loud?
Sure, there are alot of bedroom volume practice amps out there, but i also want something that can do more for me in the future. And i really like the sound if this amp.
Would be much appretiated if you could answer this question for me. Keep up the good work! :)
this is a really great all around amp
The EVH Special is made in Japan, not China. I have the black one and love it. I'm sure even the 5150 III 50 watt would be too loud for my home use only. Would you agree Chappers ?
Like Phil X reading a spec sheet.... Lol. That was a good one. :)
are you guys ever going to do any reviews on ENGL amps? it would be great if you could do so.
eargasm...that amp sounds amazing
Eddie reversed the toggle switch, so that when he was doing his tapping runs, he wouldn't switch to his neck pickup by mistake
That amp sounds wicked wish i could have to chance to play one
The reverb is undoubtedly coming from the pumpkin duh
Would love to see a good shootout of the EVH 5150 and the Peavey 6505+ replacement.
I hope that helped......I don't know much about amps either, I'm just going off experience and assuming this EVH 5150III isn't too different from the 6505/5150 by Peavey.
Like I said, you can totally do the whole Plexi modded sound just on the 2nd channel of the 5150III with the gain at noon,EQ kinda flat(slight mid boost and take some bass out) and boost the 2nd channel or switch channels for solo or just EVH stuff that requires more gain. Another thing about the BE-100 is that it's got gain but it's not blistering gain like the 5150III. IMO,you have to play the 5150III to really understand how epic it is.
Ah I get ya :D Like I say, I don't know much about amps, I just thought they were all essentially the same, just under a different name! :P I think both sound amazing, I would love to have one of these EVH 5150IIIs :)
damn that pumpkin has got some bad ass reverb
Wow i'm glad I looked that up after he said the specials were being made in China.
The factory was moved,I bought one early and mine is a japan model I was gonna buy more but now no way.I have a new EVH Stealth it was made in Mexico.
@RobChappers is the american wolfgang toggle switch backwords or upside down!? It looked like when the up position was the bridge pickup!?!
I had a Evh 5150 iii for some time with our rock band and it sounded amazing when it was pushed hard, but the trouble was that it was way too loud for the rest of the band even our hard hitting drummer was drounded out. I ended up selling it for a Marshall jvm 410h which I still use today. Think the 50 watt version will be better for most pub and club bands so you can really push it to get better tone
sounds awesome
Should totally do a Laney Ironheart IRT-60h for your next one!:)
I've never seen Rob and Lee so taken aback by an amp. It must be good shit.
I love how Van Halen has a song called best of both worlds, yet Rob sings the Hannah Montana version. Hahaha, brilliant!
i am saving for a EVH 100 watt head and cab it has best sound in the industry
can't wait to get this amp. it may take a while to save up but i dont even care.
i literally shouted YEEESS! when i saw them using musicman guitars
