This was one of the best guest appearances you have had IMHO. Very informative and a nice conversation flow. Dowd really shined in this format as when I have seen him on the network he seemed to be following a script almost. Well down by all. And no I am not a relative of Dowds or anyone else on the show lol.
Actually no. Terrible advice. That’s like Asking a Ferrari (Ohtani) to run like a ford mustang. To confirm to Norms. I guaranteed if he does that and goes away from his norm routine that has worked to appease the media, he’ll get injured again. Ohtani is the hardest working teammate and mentored young players with Angels like Moniak and Neto. If you think player hate him, I guarantee they do not. Just watch all the silliness between Ohtani and his team mates. If there are any resentment (like Dam suggest would happen) it be Mookie and Freddie fault not Ohtani. DUMB advice. Period.
It would be totally mind-blowing if the Dodgers end up picking up this guy as well, right after just acquiring Ohtani. Especially as they're really in need to fill in a starting pitcher spot.
Passan just reported $680 million of the $700 million will be deferred. Now, I am beginning to think the Dodgers might be able to sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto, which I previously thought was unrealistic. But the Mets will likely outbid everyone.
He will pitch….he might be the games best closer and make himself just as valuable by being a 2-3 inning guy. Five innings a week, 26 weeks a year and he might be even more valuable than a half time starting pitcher.
Ohtani is from a different culture and doesn't speak English well so dealing with him was a different situation than almost any other player would have presented.
exactly. what dan proposed would ruin ohtani . Dan doesnt have the ability to recognize the cultural nuance and it's his way or the highway. the way he talks and approachs Ohtani would deteriorate ANY relationship btwn Ohtani and the team and to the GM. it's not a respect thing. nor an ego thing. it's a cultural difference someone like Dan can never understand since he's so concrete in his method and ideology. Ohtani will give his life for a win - he's all about team play and will do anything do get there - just look at the contract he signed and Dan would approach him with a predisposed assumption about Ohtani and with a "youre not better than anyone" attitude. Ohtani knows this. Dan doesnt need to remind him with a condescending manner. pple like Dan wont talk to Ohtani as a human being. hopefully nobody listens to this person.
Name ONE Japanese company that WON'T WANT TO ADVERTISE AT DODGER STADIUM.. On Dodger RADIO, Dodger Billboards, Dodger TV broadcast. The Dodgers will be hiring a team of Japanese speaking market sales people and I honestly think, they will make "50 Million dollars a year". Japan is a wealthy country.. Ohtani is their GOLDEN BOY in the countries favorite sport. My goodness.. I lived near Tokyo (in Yokosuka) in 2006'-2008' and they love to advertise. Now those Japanese companies will have the ADDED benefit of Ohtani being paired with the DODGERS... I think the Dodgers GM and executives.. those who crunch numbers.. will make a NET PROFIT of 300 MILLION in the next 10 years.
1- individual teams can’t negotiate international TV / radio contracts 2- Dodgers make a lot of money without Ohtani 3- $300M in the next 10 years is an ambiguous statement
Hard Cap and a salary floor leads to greater parity in sports. I also think fewer games and more player first marketing will grow baseball. With the risk of concussions I think baseball has a real opportunity to become a very exciting alternative to sports like Football & Ice Hockey. 114 or 132 games would be a nice alternative. I like 82 games but I know that will never happen.
It might make sense for Yamamoto to sign with the Dodgers too. Think about it - the Japanese fans will be focused on the Ohtani train. Yamamoto signs with say the Giants and simply disappears from the Japanese POV. So Yamamoto doesn’t need to get top dollar, but will get Japanese endorsements with Ohtani to make it up…. IMHO
I think only people bothered by Ohtani not talking to the media is media. As a fan, I don’t give a flying s…if he never talks to the media other than once a year when the Dodgers win the ring in October. I just want to watch him play baseball alongside Mookie and Freddie every night. That’s reward enough for me as a baseball fan. And Japanese media has multiple cameras on him on every game. You can see everything from him goofing around with his teammates to spitting his pumpkin seeds out into a cup. How much more access do we need as a fan?!
Ohtani's rep is as a good teammate. And supposedly the Angels were the ones who spaced out his starts so much for the first few years, then Maddon took off the leash, as Ohtani wanted. Point is, I don't think he was the one dictating a six-man rotation or special privileges. He's ready to take the ball any time he can. As far as speaking to the media, his Japanese reserve is a big part of his appeal, which dwarfs that of anyone else in the game.

The valuations for prime free agents ARE done independently by each team and then thrown out the window when competitive bidding starts. Ohtani got his number, not because of any pencil and slide rule calculation based on his worth to the team, he got $700M from the Dodgers because the team(s) that lost out bid LA into a corner. Sorry but his response was gas baggy, smug and full of the usual off season "inside baseball" blather and BS.
AJ is such a hater of Ohtani. Ohtani has never been a problem and great teammate. (Dan) Guest making all these negative assumptions about Ohtani is STUPID. Ohtani is a two way player with his own unique schedule - that has worked and make him the BEST EVER - now your going to ask him to go to team meeting and do silly exercises and routine because you want HIM TO CONFORM to your will. That be dumb for the Dodgers to do that and mess him up. That be the ultimate dumb move to satisfy media and cause injury because he be not sleeping 10-12 hours and doing is own routine. JUST THE DUMBEST. It’s like asking a Ferrari to act like a ford mustang because your feelings are hurt. SMH.
In 24 he is not a 2 way player. This is his 2nd TJ surgery. We will see how it effects him. So next year he just a DJ. The original 2 way player was Babe Ruth who has been pushed away by all these young fans

Dan is so good. this is the spot for him!
The Ohtani money deferred was for Yamamoto to also sign with the Dodgers. I'm pretty sure Ohtani and Yamamoto have talked about it.

Here's hoping he goes to the blue!
Wow! Dan needs to be a FT regular like Ken! He provides excellent insight.
And he has great chemistry with
the hosts
1000% agree

1 of the best we've had

dodgers pls sign yamamoto
Imanaga seems like a steal now. Best LHP in NPB.

Actually, most of them. It would be way too expensive for many of them!
gotta get more Dan O'Dowd segs

Monty has been a 500 pitcher his entire career and Snell is hurt most the time.
dodgers will get yamamoto they need him to win the world series
😂😂
They definitely need pitching !
HEY! Blue Jay fans! Welcome to how Giants fans feel by getting used. Judge used us last year...Ohtani used
you this year.

By the way, I think a big factor for Ohtani is that his girlfriend is in SoCal….
If i was to bet my money, I'll bet on the Yankees getting Yamamoto...
Mets or Cubs.
@@HistoricallyRomantic I agree with the mets but idk about the cubs
I'll take that action!

Toronto offered Ohtani 685m
If the Yankees or Mets don't land Yoshi then they will definitely get Roki in 2 years.. but the Yankees are gonna get Yoshi
LOL Leyland HAD Barry Bonds...he went to SF.....he couldve been a Pirate foe years...guess NOT
Soto will get $560M over 14 years, and I hope it’s the Yankees that he signs it with.

Yamamoto won't be better than Jordan Montgomery or Michael King. Such hype about him.
This will fail big time, and I'm watching from San Diego LOL he won't pitch as well again.
ドジャースは何としてでも山本を獲得するべきだ。
The dude with backwards baseball cap is a dolt.
Ohtani hater
No baseball player is worth $700 million dollars
How do you know?
Wrong. Ohanti is .
So, who are we believe, some keyboard dipshit or the Dodgers? LOL!
He is if a team is willing to pay it !
Brandon, go back to flipping burgers.
