Key point: Do what works best for you👌I once worked with a colleague(male) that said his duty is just to provide for the house only. I remember vividly that our boss(male) told him that Ogbeni! You never ready for marriage with this kind of mentality, as God would have it, He got married the following year and his wife took in, He told us that he has swallowed those words back because he got to understand that pregnancy was another journey entirely. Person wey talk say na only to provide be him duty, he said he does the chores and would even sing a whole album while doing them🤣🤣. He then told us that he now realized that his father was unfair to his mum if this is what pregnant women go through and yet his mum does the whole chores when they were much younger.. Personally, communication is key in marriage. What works for Mr A might not work for Mr B... God Bless Y'all for shedding more light on this.. Nobody can drag our Daddy Mike ooooooo😘

I just appreciate the way Joshua responded to the lady with wisdom. What applies to family A must not apply to family B. And we should pay attention to what we listen on social media. Alot of people just use it nowadays as a platform to express their frustration and if you believe what they are saying, you might get into your own mariage with a mindset prepared for frustration.

I believe this problem starts in the home. Parents do not actually train their male children to also do chores like the female do. I believe that solving this problem should start from home. I have a bro who does not do house chores, he often says " why should I do them when I have sisters". Am always angry whenever he speaks like, but I always tell him that I will tell his future wife before they get married that he does not do chores and he does not even want to learn how to do them. I personally does not like men with such mindset and I wouldn't also want my sister-in-laws to suffer from my brothers. Women are priceless rubies, please brothers be the superman in your home and your wife will also adjust to help a superman. The Lord will help us.

Men are becoming more toxic today because we focus on women, called the victims and give them a protected status only for us to leave out training the men they will marry. As long as we do not focus on raising our men to be mature and responsible, we will always have issue in marriages and women who are victimized.
Don't focus on women and forget the men, without men, there will be no women and women can not do without men.
I pray God helps us to raise Godly seeds for such a time as ours

I agree completely with Jaymikee about how the “balance” of chores/responsibilities in a home must be agreed upon by both Husband and Wife.
But what I fear or worry about is that society often dictates to women from an early age that their value is determined by how much they do in their homes. So many women unconsciously believe that they are more valuable when they do almost everything that has to do with house chores and raising children, all while having a job or running a business. This burden of responsibility is in no way comparable to society’s expectation that a man is to make money and fix the car if it’s broken, or cut the grass in the compound.

Personally I think the balance is LOVE , I mean the 1cor 13:4... Kind of love . I have observed that most people really want to love but are ignorant of How to love so is like you really want to bake cake but you don't know how to bake and then you end up making a mess ,alot of people have entered into relationships with a ready heart to love their spouse but ended up producing jealousy instead of genuine affection simply because they have not learnt to love. If we must stop this gender role fight in our society we must sit to learn how to love the Christ way and then we won't even notice the Gap in between we call flaws. Big ups zion kulture ,I love the fact that balance was mentioned several times using the scripture as the scale of balance.

  • @afraugboko1057

Like you said it all boils down to doing things the scriptural way from parenting to marriage.
If you look at parenting advice in the scriptures you'll see that a lot of what you said about raising both gender right is actually there.
In marriage if you take out time to understand the importance of the head to your body, you’ll see the man has way more responsibility than the woman. Submitting as a woman is literally pushing all the thinking, security, provision, etc. to the man’s head while you as a woman do what little you can to lighten his burdens.
At the end of the day ladies are the ones that really chill in marriage if we decide to go with the Zion cultural standard.

Wisdom is flowing ❤......but on a very true note, (most brothers lack home training for marriage) most of'em marry to run away from chores and responsibilities, i believe we should be trained and train our children equally, teach your daughter to do house chores as well as your son, as you teach your son financial responsibilities, don't forget your daughter, we are in a Morden world where everyone is working and providing financial assistance at home, but in most homes, in the evening When everyone comes back home, the man rests and the woman starts work afresh... it's not fair!
Otherwise thanks for these wonderful words ....... Brother Ife is so wise and so careful With His words, God bless Him 😊😊

It's amazing how Nigerian Christians are more liberal than American Christians. And when I say liberal, I mean nuanced and layered. Uniformity is not the way for human life. The way you guys showed emphaty to what she said is beautiful. Recently I've been seeing reactions to the bear v man issue and men in the US are very salty about it. I've seen some savage reactions from "Christians" in the US and I just shake my head. I've heard more encouraging things for women in the church recently, pastors are telling women their worth and telling men to be better. My pastor even says that the man should help his wife learn to cook if she can't 🤷🏾‍♀️ after all, there must be other attributes that made him choose her. Even my mom after complaining about my shortcomings will still make the time to say I have strong suits that make me a good companion, which is what a wife is.

What a nice episode, i really do think it is important as individuals to allow GOD direct you in your choice of partners, because during the season of waiting HE prepares you in numerous ways like changing your mindset with things like Leading, Submission and lots more.
GOD changes our mindset on certain things through HIS WORD.
I think it is important to trust GOD in totality when it comes to the selection of your partner( by this i don't mean waiting for an angel to drop a package labelled "spouse" on your step.) But by involving GOD in your partner selection process. Good one Zion Kulture, would love to sit with you and chat soon.

Thank you so much for this... There's something I like to make people understand .. everything that is peculiar to each gender has been attached to them and not detachable.... But every other thing that is detachable should actually be a survival skill for everyone, not for a specific gender...and also should be specific to each home, what works for them..... Like women are softer and endowed with all the 'goodies' physically and hormonally tender...... While men are Stronger and more stern physically, sure that's why God focuses on Men in the bible when discipline is missing in the home, cause maybe there won't be that hormonal switch for men, and even after the fall physical work is more on the man.. cause his body is stronger... COVID did help to expose most of these things, some guys starved cause they weren't taught to cook and some women saw that they actually need a man too.... And hopefully more christians read the bible and allow the Holyspirit help us understand, so to avoid some kind of ignorant anger.... Thank God for Daddy and Mummy Mike-Bamiloye, we see a lot to learn.

I sincerely believe that there isn't really a gap in knowledge. In African society, boys and girls are typically trained differently, and this is fitting because the family is the primary and most crucial institution. For the family to function effectively, it requires a combination of a man and a woman. Therefore, boys should be trained to become men, and girls should be trained to become women. Boys should learn to embrace their masculinity, just as girls should learn to embrace their femininity. However, there should be a balance. Both men and women should be taught the importance of teamwork in family roles. While specific duties may be assigned within a company, teamwork is ultimately more significant. For instance, sales may be overwhelmed with tasks, and members from other units may need to step in and help. It's important to note that a community that is harsh on girls is often equally harsh on boys. For example, in Hausa culture, boys may be expected to fend for themselves as young as seven, while girls are trained in domestic skills at home. Similarly, an Igbo boy might be sent to Lagos for apprenticeship at a young age, living in less than ideal conditions. On finishing school, many men dont reside with their parents it like an unwritten rule. Thus, while there should be a balance, boys should be trained to become men and embrace their masculinity, just as girls should be trained to become women. Personally, I recall being taught to be sacrificial while growing up. If there was a snake at home and only my mom and sister were present, I was expected to find a solution. I was responsible for cutting the grass and fixing the generator, as well as any other manual labor. If doors were left open at night, I was held accountable. I was taught to prioritize others' needs first. Although my mom also taught me domestic chores, it was secondary to my other responsibilities in the household. Therefore, while versatility should be encouraged, boys should be trained to become men, and girls to become women, and they should embrace these roles.

Thank you for this. I would love to see a separate and full episode on submission. There's also a lot to unpack there.

Thank you Zion kulture. I must say that, as a Christian, the holyspirit teaches us in all areas, spiritually, academically, financially, socially, etc the life of Christ is not static, and when we talk about the church, it is not a building but us. As Christians, Even though a person is brought up in a particular cultural way, the holysprit changes the individual, for example; if a guy, may be, at 20 Old, says he was brought up in a family where his mum and sisters does all the house chores, sincerely, it will be difficult for that person to start developing how to do all those chores, but I tell you that in Christ, the holy spirit will teach that brother at that age. The holyspirit may just whisper to him to wash some plates he just finish using, with time all his mentality will change. This is not limited to guys only, but ladies too. I am saying these things based on the context of the discussion. The Lord must help us, he must help each one of us to take responsibility and not blame each other. God bless you Zion kulture

I never heard of anything like "gender roles" till I got on Twitter. My parents raised us all equally and enforced respect and discipline in each of our heads. I loved the conversation tho, too real 👍
