- Hailed as revolutionary by virtually every news outlet upon its introduction in late 1983, the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan disrupted the automotive industry in a huge way. Lee Iacocca, the mastermind of the minivan era, presented this 12,000-mile unrestored Voyager at the assembly line in Windsor, Canada on November 2, 1983.

1st-gen Chrysler minivans were a game-changing revolution in the automotive industry. 2nd-gens were where they really got the concept dialed in. Then they made them into fat, mushy jellybeans in the subsequent generations.
My first car was a 1993 base model Dodge Caravan. Loved that thing despite how bare-bones it was, but it was sadly lost in an accident when I was in college. After that, found a 1992 Plymouth Voyager AWD, fully-loaded with every bell and whistle they offer. Still have it, still drive it all the time. It hauls, it tows, it can carry up to eight people or I can pop all the seats out and have a ton of cargo space. Makes a great camper, too, and it's unstoppable when the snow starts falling with a good set of snow tires.
For some reason I was expecting this to be a documentary.
Listen to what she says at 0:25 and that's basically all u need to know.....people have a tendency to like stuff that reminds them of their youth. And in this case it was those of a certain age where they said "if this VANS a rockin don't come a knockin"🙄 well what happened was....all of them got to be a certain age and then *they* started having kids so they all just wanted to be the grooviest family 🤮
Yes I know times and automotive tastes change and millennials don't really want a ride that looks exactly like what their mom had. When I see a Pacifica or Toyota sienna or Honda Odyssey it just looks so 90s
I love this Dodge Caravan 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1992 is my year favorite
Have memories burnt into my mind when the Voyager just came out. Teacher took the class on a field tripe in her brand New Plymouth Voyager...
One of Chrysler's greatest achievements and they let its importance and integrity fail. " latch issues" because they didn't want to spend a few $ to keep it safe. I had several of these vans . Great van, wish i could get one new today.
The Dodge Caravan will always hold a soft spot in me
I had a first year mini van with a 2.2 and manual 4 speed trans I wish I still had that thing I put a turbo 2.2 in it out of a 1986 turbo Omni that was rear ended in the bone yard so I bought the car and took the engine computer and out and put it in my van and it was so much fun to drive the van come factory with a manual trans back when you could get them like that.
Cool!
That’s things Nice
If it smokes, it's a Voyager.
built with pride in Windsor Ontario Canada by proud Europeans.
St Louis
@piggy Got a 1998 Chrysler Grand Voyager minivan espresso edition built in Windsor, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦.
@@frankdenardo8684 How very white.
My grandfather worked at the windsor assembly when the vans were new and after some years he went to the Big Van plant
@@piggy310 No the first mini vans were built in Windsor Ontario they did not build them in St Louis till 1987
I'd drive that
MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE VAN LOL
Aaaah no it was not the first minivan ever.vw had the mini van way longer before Chrysler came up with this one.you all wish it was the first one.
So this is the car from amazing world of gumball sorry I had to
Pretty Deceiving of an ad camping because they made it look like a body on frame car when it wasn’t.
I think you're reading way too much into a visual gag in a commercial. And while it wasn't body-on-frame. The first-gen Chrysler minivans were built on car platforms, which is what made them so revolutionary compared to the other truck-like full-size vans on the market.
