    I saw you adjust the height but not the intonation. That doesn't have to be done when you raise or lower? Just got my Revstar and stringts a bit high.

    • @BenCoombs
      @BenCoombs  Рік тому +1

      The intonation was already set, I was only going to restring the guitar but moved the height adjustment screws on the bridge while cleaning it.

    I have my lefty Revstar and a Yamaha A-S701 Integrated amp running my JBL 4410a Studio Monitors at the moment. My favorite was a late 70's Yamaha CR-2020 receiver I had my senior year and beyond. We've owned Yamaha stuff from a Euphonium I used to play to an outboard boat motor my dad used to have. Oh, my mixer is a Yamaha MG12XU and it's the one I use the most.

    What timing!! I've been looking for something with P90's for 18 months! NGD tomorrow!! New RevStar RSS02T, black, w/ P90's from zZounds! I got the last one they had! I've heard all good things about them! 8) Have a great day Ben!! --gary

      I got the same model/colour/P-up configuration about a year ago, it did me no favours as I started to feel guilty for favouring it over my 38 years owned, highly loved strat.
      If you buy a Revstar, you will become a guitar adulterer and you will feel nothing but shame and guilt for your old, most beloved.
      But you will have a fuck off, spanking cool guitar that you will cherish, for the rest of your days.

    Ben, I have a kit guitar I built with p90s, having and issue getting them level. Foam used behind pickups just is not doing the job. How do I fix?

    • @BenCoombs
      @BenCoombs  Рік тому

      I've seen some people use springs instead of foam.

  • @blkjckgtr3075
    @blkjckgtr3075 Рік тому

    Nice guitar Ben I think those pickups have foam under for adjusting,not crazy about that tail piece,Cheers!

  • @jemwand2530
    @jemwand2530 10 місяців тому +1

    The only reason to release the tail peice is if you need or wish to adjust the break angle between the tail and the bridge.Personally, I don't see any point in doing so as all you are doing is putting wear on the body, which is made of wood. I really wouldn't suggest doing this.

    • @BenCoombs
      @BenCoombs  10 місяців тому

      It was the only way to release the ball ends of the strings. Are recommending never replacing the strings?

    • @jeanm.8344
      @jeanm.8344 10 місяців тому +1

      @@BenCoombsOh my god I just realized after watching the video again!!
      The tailiece is normally NEVER stuck against the guitar table. It is mounted on two springs and must form an angle with the table. The two spring screws allow you to adjust this angle.
      I don't understand why your client chose to adjust his tailpiece like that, flush to the table.

    • @BenCoombs
      @BenCoombs  6 місяців тому

      @@Azzlad I was the first to set it up from the factory and they decked the tailpiece. Also there were no springs. Blame Yamaha for the poor design and setup.

    Does the tailpiece add tons of time to string changes? Is there a trick to it?

    • @BenCoombs
      @BenCoombs  Рік тому

      Haven't found a fix other than to leave two of the tail piece screws loose to lift the end for string changes. Terrible design.

    • @jimir68
      @jimir68 Рік тому +1

      I use the same technique to keep the string in place that I use when stringing a Bigsby. Fit the ball end in the notch and then place a piece of dense foam underneath the ball end. This stops it from falling out and keeps it in place until the string tension takes over.

    • @bernie_smith
      @bernie_smith Рік тому +7

      I have a new Revstar Pro. The strings just locate in totally accessible slots, you don't have to ever adjust the tailpiece. Easier than threading strings through the back of a Strat. I don't understand other peoples' comments or issues here.

    • @BenBarnett-m5b
      @BenBarnett-m5b Рік тому +1

      @@bernie_smith I suspect that since ease of string changes associated with this tailpiece haven’t really been addressed much (if at all?) on YT reviews, ppl naturally gravitate toward that glaring omission 🤷‍♂️

    Is that the Standard (Indonesian) or the Pro (Japanese)? I have the Pro in the same Sunset Burst finish but with Humbuckers, also ordered from Long & McQuade. It was their last Revstar Pro in Canada in 2022 and had to be shipped from Toronto to Vancouver. Absolutely love it! Great setup right out of the box. Some call it a poor man's Les Paul. I call it an outright replacement for the average Les Paul at all incomes -- equal quality neck and superior internal design regarding the chambering and carbon fibre rods -- at half the price. I'm now looking at the SA 2200 semi hollow body to replace my Ibanez semi hollow, which I'm not entirely happy with. The 2200 could also displace the Gibson ES 335 with additional single coil switches on its Humbuckers, wonderful Japanese quality and, of course, price.

    • @BenCoombs
      @BenCoombs  Рік тому

      I'm pretty sure it was the Japanese made one but not positive.
