Making instruments is a creative process
it feels as if he is meditating, on concentrating time past present and future into a single gift from his heart. like this music is part of his living being brought forth from his soul and his teacher's soul and times eternal. and he must wake up from the dreams of all those lives when he is done.

Naran Kandel the sarangi you are talking about is used in folk music all over Subcontinent.

I'm extremely confused as to how this instrument is being played, specifically how he's changing notes.
ShaineJams :3 it is similar to violin, It just looks complex.
Instead of pushing the strings downward on to the neck ( like on a Western violin ), HE'S PUTTING HIS FINGERS ALONGSIDE / UNDERNEATH THE STRING, APPLYING PRESSURE USING THE CUTICLE PART OF HIS FINGERS.
@@manthan_ its quite differnt from violin.vilolin 4strings and the sound comes from the wooden box.Sarangi 30-34strings with 3main gut string to play the melody.sound comes from wood box covered with goat's skin like sarod.Tuning is quite complicated and sarangi is more complex and difficult to play unless years of practice and knowledge
very good, but where is the explanation?
+robabnawaz Kamal Sabri *plays* the sarangi... :)
to those fingers at 1:40!

amazing.....AMAZING _/\_
Similar, mournful sound to the Chinese ehru. No doubt some historical connection.
No, the erhu came from the north of China, from similar mongolian fiddles, in present day Mongolia, and early Sarangi variants came from the Middle East and South Asia, and stayed mostly in that area, nowhere near north China. The erhu sounds nothing alike the sarangi, except for they both have their distinct sad and mournful tone, although I think sarangi is more nasal in sound. Can't... Look... Away...
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
can anyone please say that what RAGA it is?
Each raga has it's own feeling, or group of feelings.
It's made up of certain notes. Sometimes the notes played while ascending are different from the ones used while descending.
Also, certain notes are featured more prominently than others.
The word raag or raga refers to either the notes that it's made up of OR the actual performance of it.
Traditionally, raags were designated as being appropriate for a certain time of day, and/or time of year.
Raag pilu
Now replaced with violin because of colonisers and inferiority complex
No no u cannot say that as a Carnatic student violin is actually a great addition to Carnatic music...
Violin with 4strings whereas sarangi with 30-34strings with 3-4 main melody strings.Tuning is quite complicated and sarangi is more complex and difficult to play unless years of practice and knowledge. So people choose the easier option but sarangi cnt be replaced with any other instrument.Sarangi has a sound with depth and weight and mass. The sound sustain more in it.somewhat similar to Esraj/dilruba
