    it also depends on sensor quality, sometimes a better and big sensor with lower megapixels has far better quality than a higher megapixels. Ex: Canon 1dx mark III has only 20 megapixels and no smartphone in the market gets closer to it , even with a crop image(digital zoom)

    Optical zoom would be very effective here. With this camera position, a great lot of pixels are wasted on the building left, sky and building in distance. With a small amount of optical zoom, you would get an improvement equivalent to doubling the MP.

    The resolution only needs to be good enough to read the license plate & recognize the car make and model and color. Twenty years ago there were lots of digital cameras made by Canon, Kodak, Nikon, and Fuji that only had between 2 and 4 megapixels but had really good picture quality. Notice the big jump in image quality from 1mp to 4mp in this video😀

    Don't rely on megapixels if you are trying to catch the cars no. plates or a person's face in more detail, the lens millimeters plays a role as well, there are various other technologies available like image sensor, wdr etc, that can make a 2mp cam look like a 5mp cam.

    I think one KEY detail is with the size of the lens the test/video was done, they did it with 3.5-4mm. I got a 8MP camera with 2.8mm lens and the image captured is not better than the one of 1MP of the video.

    • @kanarie93
      @kanarie93 2 роки тому

      object distance vs focal length of the lens. Its % of the total image that matters. If you use a 2.8 at the same distance then no, it will not be better then their 4mm at the same distance due to the zoomed in image of the sensor due to= the lens. But your 2.8 8MP will be better then the same 2.8 2MP image

    • @edinfific2576
      @edinfific2576 9 місяців тому

      What about the DISTANCE, was it the same as in the video?
      Also, VERY IMPORTANT: are you using a brand camera or some no-brand, because no brand cameras falsely advertise their resolution - I'd had a supposedly 2MP no-brand camera, and its actual resolution was 640x360 (0.23MP!!) instead of 1920x1080 (2MP).

      5/6/8MP Hik cams are rubbish at night. Best all round cams are the 3/4MP Low Light cams

      2mp is actually the best for night vision, so you either put up 2 cameras or buy really good 2mp cameras.
      8mp at night is worthless, unless you light up the area like daytime.

      @@bobtahoma okay. So which model cameras are you referring to that have large enough sensors to compare to the 2mp Ultra Dahua?

      @@bobtahoma do you have any idea how big a sensor has to be for a 4mp camera to be as good as a 2mp? You would have to put a damn micro 4/3 camera on the side of a house to get something of similar quality. An 8mp camera would need a DX sensor in it!

    Why can't all phones have lots of mega pixels , does it cost more ?

      Yes. Mega pixels are expensive to mine.. they are very rare and miners have to dig deep to find them.
