Hi Mark, Sorry for the delay, i missed this. Absolutely looking at drag racing. This is where the trans will stand out. Just need to get the cars built...... need more hours in the day
im impressed that it's still working in a hardcore driven drifting car and it's not over heating ect and mostly OEM-gut's with aftermarket tunes/programming. probably more ruff on it vs 1/4 drag and auto-X ?
@@richardprice5978 So the manual clutch kicks we do with the drift setups are harsh on the trans. Just like they are on a real clutch. However when testing the clutch pedal, the clutches in the 8hp are violent. We snapped 2 axles instantly, which you just wouldnt do if it was a normal clutch. We have ended up using software to soften the blow on a clutch kick. Even with clutch kicks and poor airflow through the cooler drifting, the trans doesnt break a sweat. However wide open throttle shifts with big power are where we want to explore next. On this car we dont run any torque reduction on a shift and lets face it, if you want to go fast you dont want torque reduction, you want all the torque getting to the back wheels all the time. We will see how much we can push a trans drag racing in 2023. We have a few builds in the pipeline around that 1000whp mark.

Having 8HP in a drift car actually makes no sense. Fun car - ok. You can see how many shifts this guy have to do during a drift. That's because there's 8 gears and each one is super short. I have the same gearbox in my l405 range rover :)
They are much better box for drifting or fast street driving. They keep the engine in its power band. This car was far from the most powerful car there but was making more smoke than cars with an extra 200hp. The extra ratios are a help. However it’s not like you would think. At 200kmh you are in 6th gear with a 8hp, where with a 6 speed you would be in 5th. So accelerating flat out up to 200kmh it’s only one extra shift. 7th and 8th are over drives.
