I’ve been cooking since I was 10. I’m seventy three now and I’m sick of cooking but my husband isn’t tired of eating. I was on thyroid medication and then I ran out and my dr left town so I just quit taking them when I ran out. I try to eat low carb and I don’t touch gluten but I do eat some cheese. I started on some vitamins and started listening to tapes and I believe I’m doing better. I was also horribly depressed because of my daughter being killed. It’s taken me almost 4 years to even try to want to move forward.

I’m so glad you made this video. I spent more than a decade always cold, tired and fat. I couldn’t lose weight and didn’t know why. Hair loss has always been an issue for me (I have thin hair and thought it was normal) I craved carbs and sugar. I went to a doctor (a horrible one at that) for an injury on my shoulder and she ignored my concerns (literally walked out the door as I was mid sentence!) She barked at me that I had hypothyroidism and said “take this”. (Levothyroxine) Never said what it was. I took it for a few years. Never felt better. Actually got fatter. I diagnosed myself with inflammation and yes, still hypothyroidism; started keto, stopped taking Levothyroxine. I knew I had trouble with carbs and had to admit they didn’t like me. 😂 I now take iodine and beef liver capsules and I’m not cold anymore. I’ve lost weight. My hair stopped falling out and because of keto I don’t have cravings! My insomnia was cured! I could go on!! Not one doctor ever (except my allergist back in the 90’s) told me to look at my food. I’m sickened to see how the medical profession has changed (my Dr as a child was an allergist and prescribed meds when necessary but always went the holistic route. This was the late 60’s & 70’s. I’m blessed to have had him as my Dr.

    I got hit with hyperthyroidism.
    It’s horrible.
My first symptom I noticed too was the hair loss but also my hair was unmanageable. I could comb my hair and it would tangle right up afterwards and become almost like a birds nest.
During the time it all started, I was traumatized by something that happened in our area. So stress. Also had the stress of having a new way of eating (keto).
The symptoms following my hair loss was:
Extreme anxiety; I suffer from anxiety but this felt different. Almost like an extreme crazy version.
Mood swings. We are talking in a span of a minute, I felt: mad, rage, sad, guilt, content, happy, euphoria, calmness and repeat. Repeat until it would send me into a panic attack for how I felt.
Heart issues: skipped beats, racing heart.
Any little thing I did my heart was racing bad. Changed position in bed and it would sky rocket.
Insomnia: went almost 2 days without sleep.
I remember eating salty foods and I would feel like crap afterwards.
Lost a lot of weight. But in a span of 2 weeks I lost 20 lbs. I was eating. I ate a lot but body would burn through it. I was hungry every hour like as if I had not eaten in days.
This was in a span of 4 months. I went and got tested for everything. My thyroid the first time they ran tests was normal. So was the following visits. Finally I landed in the hospital after having my heart race at 170 all day. The Er couldn’t calm my heart rate at all. The Er doctor said “this is crazy but I usually don’t test for thyroid function. So I’ll have them test you for that. I had two patients this week with the exact same symptoms as you… they turned out to have thyroid issues”
The results…. Tsh was .006! And my other levels were off too. They started treating that (5 days in the hospital) and symptoms started to subside.
Here’s the thing guys. Doctors don’t check the right levels. They are supposed to check free t3 and free t4. Not really go based off the tsh alone.
And it’s hard…. Hard to find a doctor who specializes in it. Yes theirs endocrinologist. But the ones I had, had a more focus on diabetes than the thyroid. So you really have to advocate for yourself.

I am so happy I stumbled across your videos!
One thing I would like to add to this is make sure your doctor is running the right tests. My family doctor overlooked my hypothyroidism for over a year before I had what I call a “storm”. I was having the same symptoms as you, along with my first panic attack and menstrual issues. I had to insist 3 times in one visit before they would refer me to an Endocrinologist. It turned out I had thyroid cancer and ended up losing my entire thyroid. By that point, other damage from my hormones being off had been done and almost cost me my life.
Be your own advocate. Don’t let them tell you you’re fine when you know you’re not.
I’m so grateful when I find people who have gone through thyroid issues and are using their platforms to raise awareness because so many of us just don’t know. So thank you! ❤️❤️

I wish I had found out sooner in my 20s. By the time I found out, it was too late and had lesions and goiters on my thyroid gland. After a biopsy, it was recommended to have my thyroid removed since it was essentially not working. I had all of your symptoms and more. Luckily, I didn't have thyroid cancer but now I have to be on synthetic thyroid hormone the rest of my life. You are spot on with the stress. My stressful 11 year career caused my health to decline and let to thyroid issues. But there were other chronic issues that happened as a result. If you have a chance to get this handled early, then do so. It is worth it to be really be selfish about your health and take care of yourself because you cannot be there for others if you don't.

Hi Shondra! I found out about a year ago that I have hashimoto’s. Would you have any recommendations on which dr to see for thyroid issues? Like a specialist or someone along those lines

    • @shondraturner
      @shondraturner 2 роки тому +1

@@valb5073 I recommend finding a very good endocrinologist that utilizes both natural and traditional medicine. Usually they have the ability to run the correct blood tests for all hormones and can make recommendations that fit you. Only advice I have is to not give up. It may take some time to find the right one and get on the correct medication. I do not have hashimoto's disease. But I do have to take two thyroid medications. One is T4 (Synthroid) and the other is T3 (Cytomel or Liothyronine). Since I do not have a thyroid, my body is not good at converting T4 to T3. T3 primarily controls metabolism but also helps with energy. Some people may go on natural thyroid medication because they can get it all in one. But I definitely would look into all the brands and consult with your doctor. Not all of them contain the correct amount of hormone which could leave you basically in the same place you started. Another alternative is getting your medication compounded. Yes a little pricey but worth it if you have allergies to gluten, wheat, corn, soy, etc. which are often used as fillers. Bottom line definitely find a good endocrinologist. I am not a doctor and do not recommend the above for anyone. I am only stating what I have been through.

My hair has been falling out since I was 13, I'm 45 now. My forehead is bigger... a strawberry birthmark is now visible and just maybe 15 years ago was hiding in my hairline. 😭 My neck is also very thick and my dentist is always telling me I must have thyroid issues. I told him I'm just fat but he said no. My neck is not proportionate, not normal. Every year I get my thyroid tested. 2 years ago I had a full work-up with the T3, T4 ect.... Ferritin was high, very high, but everything else was normal. I was told I was on my way to developing thyroid issues but didn't have any yet. 🤷‍♀️🙄 I just don't know what to do. I have the symptoms but it doesn't show up with testing.

    • @shondraturner
      @shondraturner 2 роки тому +1

@@Karen_Busch I am sorry to hear you have been dealing with this for so long. Often doctors look at the numbers for TSH, T3 and T4 and see if they are in range. In most cases, the numbers can be in range but you can still have a thyroid condition. As I stated to Val above, find an endocrinologist preferably one that specializes in thyroid disorders. If they know what they are doing, they will not only look at your blood work for thyroid, they will check all of your hormones, endocrine and whatever else is necessary. I was in your situation but I had a very good primary care doctor who recommended an ultrasound of my thyroid. That is when he found lesions and goiters on my thyroid. Having a doctor that believes you and is willing to dig deep is what you need. Sometimes you do have to go the natural doctor route to get started. You mentioned high ferritin levels. There are many causes for that and thyroid disorders is one but again, I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose you. All I can recommend to do is advocate for yourself and find a doctor that is going to listen. It took me two years to get my thyroid levels corrected. Just don't give up. I know it sounds easier said than done but it will be worth it.

Conventionally trained endocrinologists put me on synthroid which has gluten in it and I have celiac so that was problematic. I went on nature-throid and it was recalled so had to go off that. I have been taking ancestral brand grassfed thyroid pills and it seems to help. I follow a keto version of the autoimmune protocol diet (AIP) and that has worked wonders but my hair is still thin, freezing toes and dry skin. My joint pain was off the charts so my functionally trained doctor put me on low dose 3.5 mg of naltrexone and my pain went away after 3 weeks....a true blessing. My hashimoto's definitely flares up with stress and who doesn't have stress these days....hard to get rid of stress even with yoga, meditation, gratitude journal etc. Please keep these videos coming. Foods that have helped me with hashimoto's is plain cocoyo yogurt with a few raspberries, classic kettle and fire beef bone broth with redmonds salt & organic rosemary or thyme, fermented red cabbage every day, 100% grassfed beef or lamb, wild caught salmon, organic pasture raised eggs, lots of low carb organic veggies w/EVVO and base culture bread. Batch cooking different types of soup and freezing it was a lifesaver for me. Thyroid disease is tricky to say the least because everyone is different.

I also have had gut issues even before my cancer, that just made it worse. I'm taking medication and I hate taking any more than I have to. My levels were WAY above what they should have been. And I recently found out it runs in our family, so genetics can play a part also and healing my gut can help. So, my journey begins....

Detox the colon/liver/lymphatic system, do hydrotherapy (colonics), then heal colon by green juicing and eating homemade fermented foods. Do CLEAN Keto, stay away sugar alcohols, drink organic aloe Vera juice and Braggs apple cider vinegar...it's ALL about cleaning your body so it can keep you from getting sick.

I tried healing it for 5 years with no success, finally went on synthetic thyroid meds and I feel so much better. Still leading a healthy lifestyle but the meds were a must for me. 💕 I appreciate a lot she has to say about stress though, stress is such a big issue for so many people these days.

The importance of listening to your body! Thank you for sharing your story. I lost my husband ten years ago, he left me a business and three young children I was responsible for. The shock of everything put my body through so much stress I started to suffer from all these symptoms too but no doctor could pin point that it was my thyroid. After years of doing research and struggling with all the symptoms I decided to make a change on my own. I started talking selenium by eating a couple Brazil
Nuts. I went from not having a period for over 6 years, loss of hair, weight gain, acne and just a nasty feeling of exhaustion everyday to now having a regular period, losing 35 pounds, my hair has stopped falling out, my acne cleared up, the inflammation is gone and my levels of energy are way better. Healing my gut with clean keto and the Brazil
Nuts have done wonders for my health. Gracias Myra I love your channel and all your recipes 🙂

This is so great!! Being an endocrine nurse I urge many people to have their thyroids checked by an endocrinologist. A primary care doctor can make a recommendation but an endocrinologist can get you to where you need to be and see if you have any endocrine deficiencies.

I follow you for your low carb/ keto recipes and I probably wouldn’t have clicked on this type of video although the topic drew me in and I wanted to hear what you had to say since my 16 yr old daughter has hypothyroidism. She was diagnosed at 8 years old and has been on medication ever since. Every symptom you mentioned having, she had too along with gaining a lot of weight very quickly. She went to stay with her grandparents for 2 weeks and when she came home I was shocked at the weight gain. That’s how I knew something was wrong. luckily we had a family friend that recognized that along with her other symptoms were signs of low thyroid and suggested we asked to get her tested. She sees an endocrinologist every six months and he has never mentioned that she could help turn this around with diet and lifestyle changes. Thanks for letting me know. I’m glad you’ve had success with what you changed.

It was a craniopharygioma on my pituitary and optic nerves. It was found Bc of a routine eye exam where I had missing peripheral vision on each side. I had been battling sudden weight gain and Hormonal issues already with it was discovered. I had a full craniotomy to remove it and beat most of the odds against me. The one I couldn’t was the weight gain so I had WLS (sleeve) in 2012 and have been doing pretty good since.

More videos to help Hashimoto’s. I’m 61 years old - a male - yes, men get it too. I’ve been on Levothyroxine for 23 years now. I started at 25mcg. I’ve been as high as 150mcg, but I am at 137mcg now. I’ve lost 150lbs on Keto. Took me about 2 years. I went from 321lbs to 170lbs. I’ve been able to maintain my weight for a year now. But, Hashimoto’s keeps popping up and sometimes I have to lower my medication and sometimes raise it. It’s really frustrating. I eat really really clean - I mean REALLY CLEAN. I also have Hemochromatosis, and Epstein-Barr Virus. So, I have a lot of struggles. But, Mira - if you could do more videos on Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s that would be great.

Please look into colon cleansing and cleansing your lymphatic system. Look into hydrotherapy (colonics), sauna to sweat out toxins, drink more freshly made dark green juices (kale, celery, cucumbers, swiss chard), organic aloe vera juice, Braggs apple cider vinegar...seek a consultation with a holistic doctor that mainly focuses on healing through nutrition. Stay away from those alternative keto sweeteners, they are terrible for your gut/colon and thyroid. God bless 🙏

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease and Thyroid Eye Disease. The medications gave me back pain and made my eyes bulge out more. The endocrinologist refused to work with me since I refused to continue with the medication and he said that since I wouldn't remove my thyroid he pretty much didn't want anything to do with me and I would never get better. This was like 3 endocrinologists similar to Megan below. I started Keto, reviewed my blood work and started taking Selenium, Thunder God Root and Acetyl L- Carnitine. Now, I'm told I don't have Graves and I do not need to remove my thyroid or be on medication. I have it in my medical records. Reviewing your blood work is key.

Thank you for making this video, Mayra. I thought having weight issues, having excessively dry skin, and being tired all the time was possibly a hormone deficiency. I was in my late 50's at that time. I'm glad you talk about seeing a holistic Dr. This is actually a way that a person can heal and it does take longer but medication is a bandaid. I don't think it's a longterm solution as all these meds have side effects too. The first step for me is the blood test to see if it is my thyroid but I suspect it is.😀🌻

Thank you for speaking out about the negative side of synthetic thyroid hormone... it nearly killed me...as through dietary changes and chiropractic care, my thyroid began to function on it's own. That combined with the synthetic thyroid hormone the doctor insisted that I must take , caused my heart to palpitate, and my blood pressure to go very high when I had always had lower BP... I stopped taking the hormone and talked the doc into giving me a full thyroid panel ( he only wanted to test for T3)- it showed that I was overloaded and that was the cause of the palpitations and the high BP- it was then that he told me to stop taking the meds... I never told him that I had quit 4 weeks earlier! ( and my levels were still sky high!)- long story short, my thyroid is fine now... and as far as that doc.. we'll, oops! You only get one chance to kill me and you had your shot! I'm outta here!
Glad that you are feeling better than ever now! And yes, stress can be from happy things just as much as not so happy... something for us all to think about!

@@sydnicholas3713 unfortunately I live in a very rural area with limited practitioners and I have very limited insurance coverage. In my younger days working as a holistic health counselor in the San Francisco Bay Area and on Maui, I had the luxury of working with very talented alternative Healers. Now, with a much more complex situation, my resources are woefully mainstream. I also am hypothyroid, recovering from severe adrenal burnout, have fatty liver major problem converting T4 to T3. The inflammation I am experiencing m a k e s everything more challenging, especially that conversion.

This was so awesome and your an inspiration for many. There’s so many of us. It’s an epidemic, sadly. Thank you for sharing and yes, love these type of videos as well. Yes, I have both hypothyroidism and Hashimotos disease. In a nutshell, I was diagnosed in 2009 with the first and in 2018 with Hashimotos. What a journey… and yes, unfortunately I’m on a synthetic hormone since 2009. I’ve learned so much since 2018 and so want to get off my medication but I get no support from my doctors. They basically say it can be fatal. 🙄 I’m uncertain what to do at this point. Knowing what I know now. I can’t afford a holistic dr and have made many changes and feel so much better than I did almost 4 years ago. I hear you about the hard times, dark times for me. So thankful to God those days are gone. I too eliminated dairy, gluten and soy since I’m allergic. I’m also doing what I can naturally and with supplements as well. Stress is my main trigger for me and so I try to manage it. Sometimes I just can’t. Learned alit about giving myself grace. Anyhow, your video is relatable and I appreciate you very much❤️!

I'm feeling the same. Hope you're feeling better at the present. I have hashimotos and I was wondering if you developed facial hair. I did on my chin, side of mouth and upper lip. If so, what did you take for it to stop. My Dr's are of no help and I also can't afford holistic Dr's. I too am under much stress about my health. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have fibromyalgia, celiac, hypothyroidism and hashimotos and also dealing with hair loss, sugar craving, tired, etc so I probably know what you've been through. It's been a roller coaster ride for me and tired of it.
      Thank you, Maria L.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I have hereditary thyroid issues that my previous Dr identified but my current Dr cannot detect with blood tests. Keto with no dairy helps but I have a very stressful job and I've been trying to plan to manage it but I realize that this is not possible. Thank you for helping me see that.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism during COVID, I wasn't able to eat food which also affected my taste. Using Dr iyaremoses on UA-cam herbal medicine helped get rid of psoriasis..
