My husband, who died suddeny in 2009, loved Marshall Tucker Band, as do I. We played their songs on cassette on our vacations, and our five kids grew up loving ""Can't You See" and singing it with the tape year after year. The flute, guitars...all of it were a real pleasure for us. EXTREME TALENT!!
I always heard their guitar work was called Chickin' Pickin', because the way he plays without a pick. Ioved this band in the 70's and still do. One of top bands of all time. Seen them a dozen times. Never grows old.
"Ladies & Gentlemen....from Spartanburg, South Carolina.....Capricorn Recording Artist's - The Marshall Tucker Band." I love that intro on one of the vinyl album's.
Yes sir you are correct my sister, who became a graphic artist back when we were in high school in 1976. She was excellent at drawing charcoal, pencil and that’s what that album consisted of the old man on the bench. She drew that copying off the album freehanded and won her top prize in the senior high school talent show. She also went on to become a very famous artist creating logos, for some major rock bands.
Was the show in April of 1980? If so, you saw the very last concert Tommy Caldwell would play. The band was back home the following morning. Tragically, the automobile accident which ended up taking his life took place later that day. RIP ✝.... Tim, Tommy, 'n Toy Caldwell.
@@pkbrownsfan9049 I do remember it was a early in the year 1980 , and Tommy Caldwell was there , MTB was very popular on Long Island WBAB radio station always played their music as much as Skynard or Allman bros. MTB played many venues here Not long after seeing them then the news of his accident was on the radio ..such a loss what great music
AWESOME. Another great song written by Toy Caldwell....and Grammy nominated. I dont believe there was a finer guitar player/song writer Its about time for him to get the recognition he deserves.
Actor Dan Akroyd once made the comment that "Toy Caldwell's guitar playing is to rock -n- roll what oil slicks are to drag strips." I'm not exactly sure what Akroyd meant, but I'm almost certain it was meant to pay Toy's guitar playing a major compliment!
The MTB and the Allman Brothers were on Capricorn Records, and I was friends with a guy whose sister dated a guy who worked for that record company. My friend used to get letters from his sister written on Capricorn Records stationary, with the ropes - like on the record sleeves and the center labels on the vinyl records. We both played bass in the same country/rock band, and were later roommates. We listened to a lot of MTB, and I especially liked this one. I can remember playing this when I came home, and my dad - who was from Alabama and had been in WW2 - liked it...and other country/rock. I would watch Hee-Haw with him on Sunday nights, and then the FLA Public TV channel would show old TV shows from the Grand Old Opry, from the 1950s. This was around 1982 or so. I got to see Earnest Tubbs, Lonzo and Oscar, and Faron Young(before he was "the Singing Deputy"), Grandpa Jones, Minnie Pearl, and young Chet Atkins. Johnny Cash wasn't a star, yet...but his future wife, "June-Bug" Carter - of the famed Carter Family - was a comedian. The Opry shows had music, comedy, and clogging(square dancing) and Hee Haw usually had good musical guests along with the corn-pone. And of course, Minnie Pearl and Grandpa Jones were on Hee Haw, too. This video makes me smile real big😃big😃big😃.
They need a 2000's midnight special. Back in the day you couldn't wait to see who was on and then be sure you were somewhere you could watch. If No midnight special then , no MTV in my book
oh my god. This is the first time I have seen this. This is awesome. just got home from Skynyrd, Outlaws, and Bad Company in the Woodlands....Texas...strong. MTB is playing on this tour but weren't here tonight. Carpe diem.
the album version is a very good- this one just smokes! Live on TV--several years before MTV --this is much hotter than almost any video produced to get on MTV.
I often wonder if the band had permanently disbanded after Tommy’s death or after Toy quit would they be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame? With all the people who have been inducted in I can’t figure out why MTB with the original lineup is not
Love both groups. Two different styles though. Hatchet, Outlaws, Point Blank, and Skynyrd. Comparable. But all great bands. Point Blank with Rusty Burns were highly underrated. If you've not heard them. Give em a listen. Big song " Free Man"
Can see why you would say that. It is too bad Skynyrd did not get to take off once they hired Steve Gaines on guitar. The "Street Survivors" album really showed a new directions that would have been wonderful to watch blossom. Damn plane crash.
Seen Skynyrd every time they came to Chi-town. The last I believe in July of 77. a few months before the crash. They were in their prime. Absolutely amazing. Gaines certainly was a big addition no doubt. Huge loss in the music world. Seen the original Tucker band numerous times as well. Sat with them after their show at the Uptown Theatre in Chi-town and talked and drank crown royal for awhile. Nice bunch of guys. Two really great bands brother. 70's were great and easy to get backstage.
Agree. I’ve often wondered about his thoughts looking stage left and not seeing his little brother standing there. I found this quote from Tommy himself that sums it up. He had no way of knowing how correct he was: “You won't find me in another band when this one's over," Tommy said after the release of the aptly titled Together Forever. "You'll find me back in the country in South Carolina. Me and my brother have been playing together forever and, when that's over, we're going home. If you heard it, then you were fortunate enough to catch it. If you didn't? Well, there won't be another one, man." Toy Caldwell . Worlds greatest guitarist!!!!!!
The Thundering Thumb. RIP ✝️
Agree
Underrated for sure… also Terry Kath from Chicago…..

I believe your husband and I would have gotten along just fine. Bless you sister. ❤️✝️🇺🇸

2024….just reading the words….still gives me goosebumps….been with’em since the mid seventies. Seeing Tommy and Toy together don’t never grow old.

Straight outta Spartanburg.
Good to see Tommy and Toy so young and tearin' it up!!
Yep. So sad. And a reminder of how old we are all getting. RIP Tommy, Toy, & George ✝️
Now Thats WESTERN COWBOY ROCK AND ROLL! Luv ya here in New Mexico!
Guy that got shot is Playgirl model Wayne Garrison.
Amen to that Mr Martinez! NM knows it's country rock! Saw these guys at the state fair once in Burque.

They just don't make em like that no more! What a picker!
BURNING SMOKE

I miss this band. Thank you Tommy, Toy, Doug. you are missed.
Doug’s still around.
Some mighty fine Southern/Western Cowboy Rock'in Music from the Marshall!
Man I'm lovin this . the new groups nowadays can't compete with yesterdays Southern rock stars from yesterdays music
What a great jam!
For me this is the best guitarist in the world so far.
Whenever any “best guitarists in the world” lists appear I always put Toy Caldwell on there as my choice.
Wow. What talent...
Great song, video, band, people and fans
Homestate Rock-A-Billy Heroes!
They need a 2000's midnight special. Back in the day you couldn't wait to see who was on and then be sure you were somewhere you could watch. If No midnight special then , no MTV in my book
mtb from the burg! love this band!😁
Hell , they are ALL young and ALIVE . Thanks for posting .
oh my god. This is the first time I have seen this. This is awesome. just got home from Skynyrd, Outlaws, and Bad Company in the Woodlands....Texas...strong. MTB is playing on this tour but weren't here tonight. Carpe diem.

Sen bloody sational. What a band and fastest thumbs in the West.
Thumb-pickin and rear-kickin' (cleaned up here) Southern Rock at its finest...
He'll yeah! We ride hard down here in Tucson Arizona.
REALLY GOOD SONG !!!
the album version is a very good- this one just smokes! Live on TV--several years before MTV --this is much hotter than almost any video produced to get on MTV.
Outstanding band! Thanks for posting this video.
Got an old video and one of the scenes is them riding horses and playing this song being the youngest of nine I grew up listening to this music
The boys and I have a common ancestor, John Caldwell who was in the revolutionary war.
A British soldier?
Now that's Carolina style
I GOT LAYED TO THIS SONG BUT CANT IMAGINE WHY MAY BE THE TITLE
Special ....👍🇺🇸
My band used to do this one ,
I am so sorry Scott
Spartanburg's Finest.
brothers,,,,,,
@RickBeato how about this guitar work?
Toy is the boss.
What was the purpose of having that tambourine player around, long live great music
This was back when talent was a thing and they had it in spades.
Toy are always there just take a lock at your thumb and remember.
I often wonder if the band had permanently disbanded after Tommy’s death or after Toy quit would they be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame? With all the people who have been inducted in I can’t figure out why MTB with the original lineup is not
❤❤❤❤
George McKorkle in this video looks like Dickey Betts if Dickey Betts ate nothing but potato chips and cheesecake for a year
McCorkle tho...but love the energy and spot on observation
Man that's cruel
Do you have footage of "Fire on the mountain" from this show?
Jerry Eubanks is the man. Love Toy obviously but Jerry brought that cool thing.
Jeebus but that dark haired gunslinger is a dead (no pun intended) ringer for Christian Bale.
way better than Skynyrd
I love the MTB and love Toy Caldwell but Skynyrd will always be my favorite band ever
Love both groups. Two different styles though.
Hatchet, Outlaws, Point Blank, and Skynyrd. Comparable. But all great bands.

When they were boys...........
While still great...Toy seemed to lose a little mojo when Tommy died...

looking at the comments.. anyone notice Nugent may have grabbed Toy riff??
Who played the bearded outlaw?
Played with his thumb- did not know that.
It would have been great if the Outlaw that George shot was David Grohl
Great song but terrible sound quality
Just don't make music like this anymore!
A saxophone in this music????....a travesty....
Yeah that always bugged me.. I never like the Jerrys playing the sax on that live..on Album it's Toy on pedal steel instead. way better.
Well Toy was playing lead.
