The song is in the perspective of a woman who had a relationship with another woman and the woman she had a secret relationship (love affair) with ends the relationship and begins to date men to hide her feelings for woman (when your lying next to him in the middle of the night with your head in your hands your nothing more than his wife and when you think about me all those years ago your face to face with I told you so)
I should have refreshed the page to see someone had explained it - it is an epic song. I am wondering if Good Luck, Babe and Casual are about the same situationship.
@@oconsd Yeah, I saw the interview where she said Casual and Picture You were connected. That interview was about the Rise and Fall album and what made me wonder if Good Luck, Babe may also be about the same person.
@@raymondbarry4196 I’m pretty sure she has previously stated that casual is about a man she was in a relationship with prior to her coming out as a lesbian, so I’m assuming picture you is about him as well & that might be it.
The way this song is most easily summed up is the concept of compulsive heterosexuality. It's about this other woman who has been denying the fact that she is gay but stringing along Chappell with a will they won't they. Her saying you'd have to stop the world just to stop the feeling coupled with i told you so is because she has been trying to tell this woman that she can do a million and one things to distract herself from these feelings but the only way to truly write them off is to stop the world entirely because they're inevitable and when you wake up one day unhappily married to a man you settled for, I told you so.
My thought on the connection between the performance and the song is that it is an epic internal battle trying to come to terms coming out and being honest with yourself about her sexuality - possibly reading too much into it but that is all I got.
Chappell is singing about a woman she has been in a situatioinship with who can't come to terms with being a lesbian. (You can kiss 100 boys in bars, shoot another shot to try and stop the feeling...). The bridge is where she says you wake up next to him in the middle of the night with your head in your hands you are nothing more than his wife is where most people finally figure out this song is about a relationship with a woman.
Chappell said, by the way, that she wrote this about her own experience coming to terms with being a lesbian, not only bisexual. She said she imagined what it would be like to marry a man and only realise years later that she had never been true to herself.
I won’t be one of the many to tell you what the song is about but I loved this reaction. When Jake said he was thinking about sharks I lost it 😂 and Evan getting pissed just made it funnier.
Honestly all of her lives are great but this is my favorite full scale performance ever I think! And you got it pretty close! I think she was playing out the Joan of Arc story on stage if I recall correctly? Joan of Arc being a young woman who broke gender norms and lead the French army to victory in the Hundred Years War. But the way it merges with the song isn't super clear. I feel like it's personally showcasing an inner struggle since her soldiers all kills each other at the end. The song is about a lesbian refusing to accept that she likes girls. The "Good Luck Babe" is basically "Good luck pretending you wanna be with that man, when we both know you're miserable". It's written as if Chappels' lover is the one in denial. But she actually wrote it about her own experience coming to terms with her own sexuality. So an inner struggle makes a lot of sense to me! LOVED the reaction! (Also, sorry I didn't realized I was on my old shop paypal when I sent in the donation request! I'll make sure I'm logged into the right one next time x)
I told you so (that you were a lesbian, bebes). Good luck, babe (with your husband). You'll have to stop the world just to stop the feeling (of liking women). I think Evan's first guess was the most accurate: she's trying to rescue this other woman from her heterosexual relationship
Basically like you’d have to burn everything down to stop the feeling lol and the armor is her protection from this girl who doesn’t really want to commit to the relationship
And the sword toss Chappell did was epic, very risky to do that in a Live Performance - it could have gone so wrong but didn't (I am sure they were not real swords)
Love this song and as I always say, I'm super proud of my fellow Missourian and Midwest Princess Chappell Roan. This is a cool visual but as someone else said, it's definitely not her strongest vocal performance. She sounded great but she has better live performances. Especially all the festivals she did. She was spectacular in those. Great reaction as always fellas.☺️🙏
I hope you guys try some other live's, I don't think this was her strongest vocal performance, I think the armour was just too heavy for her and she was losing her breath, although she knocked it out of the park by the end of it. I'd also suggest maybe looking up the lyrics the next time you're in this situation, not really clear on what the song meaning is!
Yeah, her taking a breath when she should be saying "more" in the bridge is the biggest miss in this version. The choreography, stage production, and the other singing is really good.
That was such an epic performance and the SNL audience tickets being randomly selected with no guarantee they would be Chappell Roan fans or even know who she was show just how popular she has become.
Think this is both a Julie D'Arbigny and a Joan of Arc reference! Julie burned down a nunnery after rescuing her lady lover. Sadly she had many lady loves and died young!
Your guess is the opposite of what the song means lol very much not a damsel in distress. She knows what she wants it’s the other one in the story who is in distress

“I got it” proceeds to state the wrong lyrics. Like yes that’s my reaction channel baby!!
Anyway, my kink is karma when?
Jake got the essence of the song almost right 😊
No self-control, me sees Chappell Roan, me clicks 🧌
she’s dressed as roan of arc! a play on joan of arc
She wasn’t dressed as joan of arc. She was dressed somebody else i forgot her name tho but she wasn’t dressed joan of arc
@_s0yeon_ Chappell said she actually really just wanted to dress as a Knight and wasn't exactly dressed as anyone in particular
@ oh? People said she dressed up as someone
Some have also theorized that Roan was inspired by Julie d'Aubigny, a 17th century French opera singer. @_s0yeon_

This year's VMA performances were really good. And Chappell absolutely slayed!
This song and Pink Pony Club are my Queer Anthems
You guys have to react to NAKED IN MANHATTAN NEXT by Chappell!!! Nice reaction ❤❤❤
This is my favorite version of the song. It just sounds the best. Also, noooooo you got hit with the copyright bar!
