  • I chat with Matt Searle, author of ICON and this year's organiser of the Saab Owner's Club stand at the NEC Classic Motor Show. We chat about where his passion for Saabs came from, his 1990 T16, and what he has lined up to celebrate 40 years of the T16 and Saab's B202L Turbo engine.

    Haha dude love it. My buddy in high school had a notchback '78 EMS in '82 and we were all tennis team guys used to fuck around a lot in Cleveland. Several Bimmer/VW/Mazda RX-7 later I still have in '88 535is and a Viggen. But I need another C900T badly. Thanks for the fun.

    • @kemosaabe
      @kemosaabe  3 дні тому +1

      The 535 and Viggen are great, but you’ll never regret another C900T. 😉

      @@kemosaabe Dude my Viggen is killing me right now. I think and hope that my current issue is that I need to replace lifters. They are very fragile cars no way to dismiss that.
      I'll have another C900T. I had a C900s convertible too one of my few NA SAABs and that was fun too until someone cut across me in traffic.
      BTW my first SAAB, an '89 900S anthracite green on tan velour wore the license plate "KEEMO" and everyone thought I was a cancer survivor they didn't get it LOL

    My father had a new silver 16s on the driveway. He traded his 1978 99 turbo for it in january 1984.

      The 99 is great too. 👍

    Close. Dad had a black 1983 4 door turbo. Still a great car and engine.

      Yeah. Black is my favourite. And you’re right, the engine in your Dad’s would have been great too. 🚙💨

    Love Saabs. I have a 9-3 Viggen convertible. Just love it. Had a 9-5 Aero Estate, put some springs and dampers on it which sorted the ride and handling. And a Nubetoon remap. It was such a sleeper.

    Hi Paul. It seems we share the luck of having a rare UK beast. Last UK one I saw was the B reg Wheeler Dealers and now scrapped.
    I’m currently restoring a fully loaded 1986 flat nose that I’ve owned since 1996 and for me also a huge learning circle on these iconic cars now I’m having to fix one. I’m in touch with Matt to get a copy of his book also. One thing I noticed between our models and only being a year apart and with you having earlier temperature issues is mine has twin fans fitted. Maybe a factory upgrade? So many difference between the 84-86 models and the 87 upgraded models. Keep up the great work.. Mark 👍
    My newly pathetic attempt at making You Tube videos is here lol

    The springs are very harsh ... nice car though.

    • @kemosaabe
      @kemosaabe  3 дні тому

      Thanks Steve. It was a bit ‘connected’ as Matt said. Morty has a smoother ride but doesn’t have the lower profile which I think looks good with Matt’s. 😂

      @@kemosaabe I can feel 'em and I am not in the car. In my experience .. and it is always a personal choice .... I have found all the cars with lowered springs start bumping around roundabouts and country road corners... so the enhanced roadholding is diminished by bump steer. I've driven genuinely 100's of them ... a standard 900t handles beautifully on new standard springs. just a little lean and then grip and then (if slightly damp ) youcan saw the wheel a little because the back starts to drift due to it being an axle and the inside gently easing the outside out a little.
