  • One of the rarest kits ever, I bagged the British Startline 1:8 scale resin cast and white metal Lotus 18 Junior formula car on eBay years ago.
Not much is know about Startline, but they made around 20 different 1:8 scale autos and they also made cars as large as 1:5 scale that sold for over 10,000 dollars!!!
Easily confused with Starline models, who are best known for their diecast 1:48 cars, in part because they are also both British model companies. Is there a relationship? If you know PLEASE jump in in the comments section. We would LOVE to know more about these kits and companies!!! Rare and unknown kits!

Me too!! Two projects that I was working on in Oak View before the big move. This one and the F and RGW passenger cars. Really want to get back to both.

@@ToyManTelevision I just bought a P-61 at a yard sale, for next to nothing, and some misc minor parts are missing. I am going to put it on homemade jacks, because of fragile/weak gear legs, and leave it slightly disassembled, with some parts lying around, to make it look like it is being worked on, in a hanger. This way, I get to enjoy the kit, and not have to worry about/duplicate what is missing. Put your mis scaled engine hanging from a polystyrene built engine hoist, as though it is just started to be lifted from the car. Then you won't notice it doesn't fit. Don't fret over it, just go with the flow, and work with what you have. Just enjoy it, rule #1. Trying to recreate an engine, to the scale you need, is a rabbit hole I would never want to go down. Plus, I think it would be cool to just see some of the suspension details. All those extras you have are way cool. Hope you don't mind, just my 2 cents. Would really love to watch you do a series on this build. It sure would be unique.

If the model is as rare as rocking horse poop, and the chances are slim of finding the correct engine, what about a highly detailed garage diorama with the Lotus up on stands, a bare engine bay and a freshly delivered crate with the refurbed engine "inside"?

I’m hoping that someone has modeled it in 3D on shapeways. There are millions of things there including every American car made from 1950 to about 1980. And more every day. Cool part is you order it and tell them the scale you want! And then they print it. Your idea it a great one. I do love a good diorama. The Super 7 in the show has one of the engines that was used in the 18. If his was 1:8 scale and he turned his back for a few minutes I may have had my engine.

@@ToyManTelevision I agree with you on getting someone with a half million dollar machine to print it for you rather than buying a five hundred dollar one and attempting it yourself. I'm not an idiot but I don't think I'd fare well with the computer side of it for a start! Same with photo-etch parts. Having seen how they are produced I am happy to pay someone for them and leave the chemicals well enough alone. I look forward to the end result with the Lotus. I know you'll get there. Cheers

I was thinking of making the suggestion of having the engine out of the car and possibly in pieces on a stand and benches. A crate marked "engine" with appropriate markings is a great idea. Maybe with a couple of people discussing opening the crate.

July 6th and 7th the entire town of sumpter turns into a large flee market, there is usually really cool items in the market, plus just the size of the market is amazing

On the bottom of the Startline 1:8th scale model list is a Chrysler Town and Country for 2250 GBP. It doesn't say what year T & C that model is, but I'm assuming it's a classic 1940's model. If it's one of the newer T & C's then the model cost about as much as you could buy a decent used Chrysler for. Speaking of that I had to chuckle because you paid more for that Lotus model than I have for many of the full size cars I've owned....it is a beauty model though. By the way I love those Rat Fink tee shirts

You can make a garage out of balsa wood, and if you don't get the car finished, you could make it look like the garage caught fire, from the acetylene torch and and burned up the motor , have two dudes pushing the rolling chassis out of the garage just in the nick of time, haha , Tadaaa.. $45 bucks , such the deal !! The last GSL contest it's going to be a doozy. I am already drawing up plans for my slotcar , funny car and dragsters. I'm going to have to do a Jungle Jim model funny car on a slot car chassis. Axle ball bearing wheelie bars. With adjustable slide weights. So what will win slot car drag races for real. + - .002 thousandths . I might do a diagram of the Jungle Jim if I can find a Jungle Pam scale size doll, or should I say miniature . Lol .. show more of the models you have built already ¿ Gudjob on the video !

Wow, that's an expensive kit. And typical British instructions (I looked to much at locomotive kit's instructions from UK!)
If you can scratch build such complex motor, then you have excellent skills! Myself, I would model it in Fusion 360 or Blender, and send the file to Shapeway! And now you can 3D scan with a cell phone, maybe scanning one of those 1/12th scale motor and then printing it at 1/8th scale would work.

@@ToyManTelevision Blender is totally free and also a very good 3D modelling software. If I have more experience with such programs, I now find that technical drawing are more easy to do with a CAD software. Fusion 360 is free for hobby, but it is quite different from a modelling software. But it is a lot more easy and precise to do things like: model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/34011#comment-349727

pbyfr thanks!!!!!! I should try that. I used to teach 3D back in the 90s. But the software was sooooo different. But we even had a 3D printer! Sort of experimental. University of Utah. The students knew how to use it. I was just amazed. One guy made a star ship Enterprise. With interior spaces. Printed in clear resin so you could see the inside. In like 1995. Anyway I used all the softwares mostly softimage. But settled on Lightwave when it came out. But it’s hard to print. I’ve done it but it requires translation into a different format and then patching problems. But as I say, I have done it! But using different software would be better
