Watching two people nerd out about bog plants and birds makes me think there is still good in the world ❤ love the chance to learn through the interaction as a fly on the pitcher plant as it were
Trust me, you will never lose your Wisconsin accent. Also note that there different dialects in each state and also some places there are 3or 4. Glad you like the Southeast! It’s the best!
I don't know how it started, but the topic of nature has always interested me. I am not an ecologist, nor am I a biologist, nor have I had any formal training in the natural sciences. I really love anything related to nature and I can watch videos like this where nature lovers discuss the things they love.
My partner and I visited the Atlanta Botanical Gardens this past weekend; an amazing and beautiful place; the plant diversity and beauty is second to none.
Summer, it will be interesting to see which way you go with the bog on your property. I’m thinking u may not need or want a liner. Given the need for a botanic garden to have a constant show they may have to have the liner, sand etc. in order to control conditions. In your case the desire all of you seem to have to maintain a more natural area it’s hard to think about adding the liner especially after watching all the work everyone put in to removing the landscape fabric etc.
That was so much fun! Summer is so knowledgeable and modest. I appreciated learning about how much zones overlap. Wish I lived closer but will appreciate sites close to me more.
That is so beautiful! Pitcher plants are so interesting. The collection of plants are so striking together, like a meadow. I tried growing a pitcher plant as a houseplant. It did fine, you have to have humidity (kept in in a closure with moisture and moss) and I even got a few pitchers. I had to find another home for it, but made sure it went to someone who was familiar with those plants. A bog would be so lovely on your property. You have so many possiblities there. Another very interesting video...thank you!
One of my fantasy home purchases is a lampshade made of sarracenia pitchers. They're spendy but look so cool. I visited Volo Bog in Illinois as a kid and still remember being able to bounce on the peat layer.
Fabulous! Those drifts of sarracenia are every bit as spectacular as tulips and have all the benefits of being native and fascinating at the same time. Bravo Atlanta !!
This is a great idea! I don't know what species would be native to our Iowa prairie bog but when we built our driveway we inadvertently created a bog. This spring it is holding water, which it does around 90% of the time so you have inspired me, once again! ;-) Great content as always and I look forward to seeing where you go with yours!
Really enjoyed the video, was surprised to see you down here were we live. Working on plantings for shady seep on our five acres right now this video was helpful. Thanks
I love the field of carnivorous plants, so beautiful! I want to grow some but they always seem more complicated then regular house plants. Thanks for sharing the Atlanta Botanical gardens, it looks like a wonderful place to wander in.
Awesome! I live an hour away from the ARL Botsnucal garden…been there many times. I myself have a few nice Sarracenia pitcher plants of which I continue to thin out & share with friends. They are a fun & interesting plant to have.
bringing back diversity and niche ecosystems is such a great effort, Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't , just put out a Carnivorous Plants video too if anyone wants to see these plants a nature walk
Very interesting and educational video. I live within the blue line with wetland areas that I battle invasives! Trying to create woodland gardens has been challenging and a lot of constant work. I would enjoy if you did a video of the invasive species on your property and what you do to try to combat them. Especially in your wetland areas.
Great video. I am wondering how these plants winter over? We are zone 6 in northern Ohio. Any recommendations for certain plants that would have better success?
I loved this video. Ahhh, my childhood memories again.. maybe he went to my WI swamp too. I liked it, that he was freaking out, because you spoke his language. 😂 Pow! Pow! Pow! He couldn't believe it! I can't wait for your bog project to start. Too bad mosquito repelling plants, can't live in a bog..or can they? . maybe on an island.. but then the ducks would probably come... but maybe you'd enjoy that. 😅 Is the pond stocked with fish? Looking forward to everything. I've recommended your channel to a lady who also speaks your language. She will love this and the visuals.
A brilliant video which was great to watch, I live in the UK and will never have the chance of visiting the garden. Im a member of the UK carnivorous plant society and have a few Sarracenias in my garden which after i repotted this year are doing so much better. I think the leucophylla is my favourite and will try to get one when i can afford it, if not ill try to buy some seed, keep up the good work preserving the bog lands, cheers
Don't quote me on it, I'm not an expert, but from what I know there's not really any alternative to peat for this specific type of garden. A lot of these plants just won't grow in anything else.
#1 is definitely habitat loss ......millions of carnivorous plants are being bulldozed for residential and business buildings, roads, etc,!!!! Acres upon acres for new subdivisions, are drained by digging ditches. Then, bulldozers come in and tear up and flatten every living tree and plant practically......😢

Summer….so darn smart, great interviewer. Her enthusiasm is contagious.

This is fantastic, absolutely beautiful.
Aw Summer has met her kindred spirit xxx
i would imagine you could make a bog without plastic that project is going to be fun to see. what you do is so cool thank you.
This was fantastic. I can see Max absolutely loves his job. Thank you Summer!
Awesome interview, he seems like a cool dude. Now on to the drawing board Summer 🙂

I suppose it depends on what the team find when they start digging x

Thank you so much for sharing this. I am facinated by carnivorous plants. We have a natural bog on our property. Can't wait to see what you put in.

Wish i had a garden like this, stunning just stunning!
Great video. Fab information. Nice interview and Max shined sharing his expertise.
I'm thinking about creating a mini bog and it's great that you showed the plants that grow alongside sarracenias.

What a beautiful bog, and fun & informative video. That ABG horticulturist (and wildlife ecologist), Max Kotelnicki, is the BEST!
That’s my cousin 😭❤️ love u max
Hopefully that's a tears of joy emoji and he's well
This is now on my bucket list! This place looks amazing!
New garden! This is an interesting one since I don't live near a boggy area. Such diversity with the plants too :) Thanks for another trip
Really enjoyed the video, was surprised to see you down here were we live. Working on plantings for shady seep on our five acres right now this video was helpful. Thanks
Now I want to go to Atlanta! I’m eager to see what you do with your own bog at Flock.

I loved this one! Well, per usual. He was such a fun personality to watch as well :)
I agree this is a great video - exciting and beautiful
What an amazing place! I could become obsessed!

Having a Night Hawk ringtone was wicked cool
Fascinating. I want to visit your botanical gardens. We live in coastal SC.
Great video. I am wondering how these plants winter over? We are zone 6 in northern Ohio. Any recommendations for certain plants that would have better success?

Any tips for an outdoor bog in zone 5?

What is your plan for the honey suckle?
Just more of the same! ua-cam.com/video/Tfc2ao3G1Nk/v-deo.html
Awesome
Why are they still using peat?
