- Genioplasty, also known as #chinsurgery is a versatile surgery which involves reshaping and repositioning of the chin. The surgery effectively corrects receding chins, overly extended chins, misaligned chin, and short chin for an attractive facial proportion. According to plastic surgeons, the lower face plays a major role in making the face attractive and hence, requires a proper facial assessment.
Genioplasty involves the alteration of bone wherein, the bone is cut and advanced with the help of screws and plates. This advancement can be done for both forward and downward projection of the chin and thus, genioplasty is also considered better than chin implant. Where chin implant uses silicone implants to fix the projection of the chin, genioplasty does not use any external substance and gives permanent result. My lower jaw is rather smaller than upper jaw resulting in lower lip far backward than upper lip (Class 2). So the orthodontist advised me genioplasty after completion of orthodontic treatment. So here, if I go with chin implant, will it bring my lip forward? Or genioplasty would be the last resort. Please answer. I shall pay your consultancy fee.

Mam is it possible to advance chin vertically, horizontally and fix some assymmetry in chin all at the same time ? Or is it too risky or not possible ? Also can people with visibly normal chin undergo this procedure just for looking good...i mean does it help normal people get a more defined and angular male chin or is it only helpful in case of correcting abnormally retracted or forward or long chin? Apologies for the long question 🙏
Dear Jack, Genioplasty is a very versatile procedure and can be done to correct chin asymmetry. advancement and downward movement along with asymmetry correction at the same time doesn’t involve any major risk. It can also be done in patients who require more definition but the important thing to note is examination and clinical evaluation along with setting the right expectations of the patient from the planned procedure.
