Nice to see the VQ35 dipstick hasn't changed since my 02 Maxima. Same crappy design that smears oil all the way up the stick. I have to wait until the next morning to get a proper reading haha
I’d start it up and check for leaks while it’s still on the ramps! And the number one reason for a leak is the gasket from the old oil filter remaining stuck on the engine. It won’t seal with two gaskets.
Our 2017 Pathfinder has 2 major problems. One is the key fob. No matter how many times we get a brand new key fob, it always shows "key not detected" message once or twice a day. The second is rear view camera. After backing up, when we drive forward, the camera stays on on the lcd monitor.
I place a sheet of aluminum foil over the frame & hoses under the oil filter, so the old oil from the oil filter won't leave a mess (cleaner and less to cleanup) just remove the foil afterwards. I did the same for our ex-Odyssey... ;)
Leased a 2019 Frontier 4x4...the dipstick is cheaply made junk...the oil filter is in the worst location possible...the hacks at the factory didn't even bother to paint the inside of the rear wheel wells... I can't wait to give it back to Nissan.

O'Reilly's charged me $43 for syth. oil, and $37 for an oil filter. Ridiculous, but since I'm taking her out on a road trip tomorrow, I'll call it a procrastination tax.
I make C shaped piece of poster board and slide it under the old filter prior to removing it so the oil can be directed over the frame rail and into the pan.

Well the oil change was extremely quick. The drain plug was really on there. I was less than impressed with the filter. I was easily able to remove it. I Decided to go with a easy drain oil plug. No more having to take off the plug just a quick twist of lever and it drains. I will be looking for any leaks. Used the same oil as u. Did a wix fully synthetic filter. Really enjoyable job. Thanks again for the video. Made it so easy.

Good video, thanks. I am at the first oil change for my 2017 Pathfinder and you are correct about the $85 cost at the dealership. You can purchase Nissan synthetic oil with filter and crush washer on Amazon for $25 w/free shipping. I'm ordering that today. Makes for a cheap oil change and no question about the quality. The oil is actually made by Exxon Mobil, so I'm guessing it's actually Mobil 1. Not positive, but why make a different synthetic oil for Nissan than what they already make.

Always follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule specific to your vehicle. 5000 miles is what Nissan recommend for this vehicle. If you do your own service, proof will be receipt for the oil and filter.
@@dial2fast I do have one question for you. When you do pathfinder brakes you open brake fluid cap or keep closed. I see people doing both. What is your opinion?
@@chadjohnson7544 I actually talked about this question on my Pathfinder rear brake service (go to 2 min 17 sec). Here is the video ua-cam.com/video/veyZ8oGF8Xk/v-deo.html
Hi, dial2fast. Im having a lot of trouble getting a good oil level reading from the dipstick. It shows a really really high oil level despite me only putting in 4.75 quarts after draining and refilling with no oil filter change.
The Nissan V6 engine's dipstick can be hard to read. The trick is after you stop the engine, you have to wait 1-2 minutes for the oil to settle. Then pull out the didstick and, wipe it clean then insert it all the way in. Pull it out and you will see one side of the dipstick is coated with oil but the other side should have an accurate reading. The oil level should be between the 2 dots.
Due to the orientation of the dipstick handle, is the accurate side the side without the H and L etched into the metal? On the side with the etching, the oil level reads very high
@@HhhGggg-rz7bu The dipstick can be inserted either way so the side that shows accurate oil reading can be either side. Just look on both sides and you will see which side has the accurate reading.
