  • So after quite a few episodes of this series it's time to take on the chorus pedal. In this video the chorus pedal used is the Boss CEB-3 and it's recorded in stereo. The bass in the video is an old modded Ibanez SR800 recorded through a MXR 81 preamp in to a Behringer audio interface.

Love the "Pictures Of You" multi-tracked recording, and a Boss CEB-3 absolutely nails the sound of Simon Gallup. For Peter Hook's trademark chorus sound an EHX Small Clone or Clone Theory gets that more metallic" clang. My absolute favourite chorus for bass is the Boss CE-1 - I found one of those on the second hand bargain shelf at my local music shop back in the early 1990s. They're now worth crazy money, but the new Boss CE-2w "Waza Craft" has the circuits of the CE-1 as well as the CE-2.

When I think of chorus on a bass, I think Supertramp's song "Babaji" from "Even in The Quietest Moments"/Doug Thompson's bass bridge ascension part...it is pretty lush.... I love it!

@@photogramistic I make a living from playing so I guess I'm doing something right. What you see in this video is obviously not me playing in a band setting, it's me demoing a chorus pedal on UA-cam. If I had played like this on an audition for say a singer songwriter gig I would not be in the music business. Beware of getting too hung up on how to "actually" play anything though, any interesting artist from Mozart to James Jamerson got to where they are by questioning the traditional way of doing things.
But if you prefer traditional bass playing there are thousands of videos of that to watch (I have made quite a few myself), but I think the world (and UA-cam) would be a pretty boring place if that was all there was.
