- Debbie Matenopoulos sat down with Regis Philbin for Hallmark Channel's 'Home and Family,' where he opened up about the real reason he left 'Live!' and the status of his relationship with his former cohost, Kelly Ripa.
He was amazing...the stories he shared with his viewers were simple, but interesting and comical by the way he explained them.
LOVED when he was with Kathie Lee...the two of them had great on stage chemistry and made me laugh out loud.
There hasn't been a team like them since.

Im a man and even I can observe that tho she is portrayed as their equal on camera,when it comes to critical decisions about the show,she isnt told off the bat as the cohost should be in order to properly carry on. As men,they dont feel obligated to tell her shit but if she were a man,they’d let her know instantly before even telling network. Just my observation.

FYI: Ryan could carry the show without Kelly, he’s grown up and learned the industry with experience and expertise. He’s a people person and connects well with all his audiences. He’s got longevity commitment on all of his projects, so his ratings must be phenomenal
I haven't watched the show since Regis left. I watched a few episodes with Michael Strahan. They were fine. But lacked that oomph that Regis brought to the show. Now it's just another run of the mill daytime talkshow. The only person I wanted see replace Regis was Anderson Cooper. Not really a fan of Kelly. She was affable enough with Regis, but she's nothing without him.
RIP Regis. My condolences to wife Joy & family for your loss. By the way. There is only one Regis and he's irreplaceable :-(

Maybe she's not taking it personally. Maybe she just realizes that she needs them to keep up the ratings. Come to think of it, I stopped watching when Regis left the show. I tried a few times but the magnetism just wasn't there.

This interview actually proves Kelly’s point that she was individually blamed for Regis not being invited back to Live as if she had that power over Disney execs and even The shows producers. To prove that point, Kelly wasn’t even given a heads up that Michael was leaving prior to an on air announcement…while she was on vacation. I actually watched the episode where Regis said he was leaving and it was over a salary dispute. People should revisit that episode. He was upset because they were offering him less money at his contract renewal. At least that’s my memory of it
So, in other words, Kelly didn't want him to leave either, just like everyone else....we all wanted him to stay with us forever. He chose to retire. The public and media were so cruel to Kelly. Anyone who's actually watched their shows knows how much she loved, admired, and appreciated him. She had to grieve him whilst being attacked by emotionally unintelligent losers. Such a shame.

Gee he is 80 here he wanted to retire you can only do a talk show so long he did not want to get up at 6am. Supposedly they did not really get along well looked like good chemistry on air lol. Seems Kelly seems to take it too personall stop chatting when her co hosts leave on her its not really about her they either better job offers or like Regis just wanted to enjoy retirement but he still made appearances. Now that he passed she suddenly saying nice thing about him yeh its guilt cause she knows she did talk to him for some time. Kathie Lee and he still kept in touch it seems she went and saw him a few weeks and had lunch with him in CT.
