- Hello folks! Today I have a new restoration video for you. My friend asked me to restore the legendary SVT-40 bayonet knife from the Tokarev system. This item is from the era of the Second World War. The condition of the item is bad, but I will try to fix it. Well, I'm starting to restore the item!
The first duty I began to disassemble the bayonet. I tried to remove the original canvas suspension as carefully as possible, it broke into two parts. But I'll decide that later.
Next, I removed the plastic pads from the knife, because there were always wooden pads in the original. I put all the metal parts in a jar with a rust remover. I put the canvas suspension in a jar with hot water and laundry detergent.
After a while, I took out the metal makers, including the scabbard, and placed them in a jar with warm water and soda to neutralize the acid. I cleaned the screws and nuts from the knife handle with a cord brush. The canvas suspension was washed and ironed. After that, I went to the seamstress to sew the suspension well. I leveled most of the dents on the steel scabbard with the help of homemade metal molds.
The lock on the handle of the bayonet knife was also restored. I soldered the aspen part with a new one, and made a new nut and added a spring. It turned out to be a working lock. I also made new bayonet knife linings from beech wood. After all the work, I assembled the bayonet and showed it to you.

You, Sir, are an artist! You have a sharp eye for detail, a great understanding of how to work around or overcome problems with a piece and you simply don't give up on things that most of us would have thrown out - such as that suspension strap. Great job as usual!
I love the respect you showed for the bayonet while restoring it. Keeping the fabric, not over-working the blade to keep the 'history', etc. Also, nice work on the wooden handle and the 'spring button thing'.
Once again, I am impressed. Instead of trying to make something look brand new, you bring out its naturally used beauty. I agree with replacing the plastic with wood as it was made. BRAVO!
Hi! Thank you for your attention. There was never plastic on the handle of this bayonet, it was done by someone who used it on the farm or in the village. The SVT-38 and SVT-40 models always had a tree on the handle.

I loved those wooden handles. I watched another restoration channel over the weekend and died inside as the restorer destroyed the handle of a very old Asian blade. It made me appreciate your work even more. Be safe sir.

Я может чего то не понимаю в этой жизни, но зачем нужно было уничтожать нормальную целую ручку (накладки) судя по всему из какого то олдового пластика (бакелита). И при этом спасать прогнивший кусок брезента???
Согласен на все 100 !!!
Потому что в модели СВТ-38 или СВТ-40 никогда в жизни не устанавливались ручки из пластика. Всегда было дерево. А поменять старый на брезентовый подвес на другой это легче всего по сути любой справится, а я не ищу легких путей.

@@alexeygrebennik8877 Это было сделано обычным человеком, поверьте перед тем как приступить реставрации я и книгу открыл (благо есть) и настоящий СВТ-40 в руках подержал. Видно же штык использовался как утилитарный предмет. Это обычное дело было после первой и второй мировой войны.

Я конечно не очень разбираюсь в эволюции штык-ножей разных моделей, но этот похоже больше нож, чем штык.И похоже судя по сточенному лезвию, хорошо послужил в этом качестве.Спасибо что сохраняете следы времени при реставрации!
Такая судьба часто находить штык ножи, сломанные шашки, бебуты, кинжалы и т.д.

I have 3 antique bayonets in my collection. They're an interesting item. Many nations have their own types, but sometimes have similar if not identical types 😯 Watching you fix the button mechanism was very enlightening. All mine still work, but I always wondered how they were put together.

Great job again. I own an SVT-40 but it did not have the bayonet with it. They are hard to find and rather expensive. I need to pay the price and get one to make my rifle complete.

Пишу в 14-ый раз. Накладки у СВТ-38 и СВТ-40 всегда были из дерева. И вас с днем победы
@@ScrewsAndTools Без всякой иронии об этом и говорю. Лучше сохранить возможно родные винты и не срывать шлиц. Чем однозначно неродные пластиковые накладки.
Всё отлично получилось. Подвес хоть и оригинальный, но можно было бы заменить на застаренный, брезентовый ремень. Клинок был когда-то свиноколом и правильно, что не стали его усовершенствовать. Рукоятки деревянные, как и должны быть. 👍

На счёт ножен можно было водой и в морозилку. Расперло было вмятину. Я, так флягу востонавливал.
Фляга возможно ваша была из дюраль алюминия, а тут сталь я не стал пробовать.

Where did the plastic handles come from? They looked original. Anyway, much better handles now and a beautiful knife
SVT-38 and SVT-40 have never had plastic on the handles from the word never. The fact that it was already a household art.
I didn't think the belt loop was salvageable...well done! Could the bayonet be a later model...from after the war? Might explain the use of the plastic....

Этим штыком ещё очень долго и активно пользовались и после войны.
Да конечно, такое вижу в 70% становится обычно утилитарным предметом. Пару дней назад сам увидел пару кинжалов и что вы думаете? Сточены переточены... как-будто тонну картошки им чистили да колбасу резали. Как говорится у всех разное восприятие предметов)
Штык уточен на наждаке, был ли смысл с ним возиться? Ножны красились черной краской. Накладки рукояти были гораздо более темные. Полосы, из которой сделан подвес, выпускаются до сих пор и продаются в хозяйственных и на авито. Зачем было сшивать мертвый?

Смутило меня только - бережное отношение к подвесу и при этом скалывание накладок...Впрочем ,если это изначально хотелось хозяину предмета, то не смею критиковать. Мне пластмасса на рукояти показалась "улучшением" сделанным почти так же давно, как и сам штык.
Привет, спасибо! Ну на свт-38 и свт-40 никогда не было пластика поэтому я решил сделал как должно было быть. Дерево. Вот поэтому такие пироги. Хотя многие исходя из комментариев увидели свт-40 впервые штык) Типа оказывается пластик должен быть))))
Реставрировал японский штык с Гражданской - деревянные накладки были в плохом состоянии, пришлось повозится с ними больше чем со всем остальным. Хозяин говорил об замене, но когда я сделал восстановление с пропиткой он сказал что не может представить клинок с накладками новоделом ....

I may understand that you wanted to keep the original piece of cloth/ strap , but couldn’t you replace it with a current similar piece just to give it a longer life?!
