Sarcófago mentioned!!
Its so nice to see brazilian literature being appreciated outside of Brazil. Jorge Amado is one of the greatest here. His other book "Captains of the Sands" is amazing!
Wooow this book is a classic of Brazilian literature ❤ 🇧🇷
Unpopular brazilian opinion: Jorge Amado's writing is at best a 6. People usually love Capitães da Areia around here, but honestly is just ok, a normal social criticism, nothing genius. But still worth reading, I guess. I found Quincas... funnier, which made me like it more. I think you'll prefer O Cortiço, by Aluisio de Azevedo. Kinda same critic/ depiction of drunks, poor and other marginalised people, and way better written. It's funny and kinda sexy?? It's good. The thing is I don't know if it's been translated into english :/
I am Brazilian and really DON'T like Jorge Amado.
Loved your comment: 'Lispector is on a completely different wavelength than humanity' - best description of her ever
Another great Brazilian black metal band is Mystifier. Their first two albums are just evil sounding. Great review, Cliff.
I love when you do Brazilian classics :D <3
Tô me, his magnum opus is capitães de areia (dunno the english title), my ABSOLUTE favorite. Quincas is a okayish novel in his catalog
I am almost emotional to listen to you talking about my country, Jorge Amado and Sarcofago. Wow! So awesome. Thanks for this video
I love the thumbnail for this video, the facial expression 😂 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 ❤
It's a pity that the only way to truly experience Grande Sertão Veredas by Guimarães Rosa is by learning portuguese and then learning Rosa's own universe of linguage because it would be maybe the greatest recomendation you would have of Brazilian literature.
You are very loved in brazil man (at least by me haha) found about you from the Pessoa's review.Great video Cliff much love
Jorge Amado is amazing. More, please. 🙏🏻😍🇧🇷
Another sugestion for Jorge Amado books, I will suggest Capitães de Areia (Captains of the Sands). It is about a gang of street kids leaving in Salvador. It is amazing.
I've literally just got back home from the funeral of a dear friend of mine who died suddenly last month, when I saw this video in my feed. I think this is just what I needed. Thank you.
I get so excited seeing Brazilian authors gaining recognition and being read outside the country, especially a classic author like Jorge Amado. If you are looking for depth and reflection on life and society, I would recommend "Capitães da Areia" ("Captains of the Sands"). Simply incredible.
Amei a resenha, Jorge Amado é amor nacional! Leia mais livros, você vai amar . Ele é o nosso gabo❤
Jorge Amado is a great life essayist. Specially when talking about the dredges of society
Olá, Clifford! Kudos on the Brazilian Portuguese accent! I read this book a long time ago, on a trip to Bahia. I totally agree with your approach on the book, on Jorge Amad, on Machado de Assis and on drinking. And I really apreaciate that you're interested in learning Portuguese. Bom Carnaval! Cheers from Brasilia ✌
