My family was there, got pushed back to El Paso before coming back with de Vargas. Now our blood runs together. We fight like conquistadors but have the morals and respect of that of the Puebloan.

Hugely informative. I had always heard that sum of the Isleta people had to flee along with the Spanish because they were loyal to the Spanish.. did not know how connected Onate was.

Hi! I’d love to learn about Hopi culture. My great grandmother was Hopi (or so I’ve been told) she passed away when my grandmother was 2. Is there any way for you to help me confirm any of this through your tribe?

I was hoping you would have mentioned that the spanish also used captured Tiwas and Piros as hostages on their retreat to El Paso,. That how our puebles in the Lower Valley of El paso ended up being created.

The tribes in the lower region also never chose to join the revolt.

My ancestors had been fighting them since 1540, look up the tiguex wars, the spanish took Isleta pueblo and many of the tribes in that area as hostages so they could make their retreat to El Paso. Maybe the knotted cords of Pope' didn't make it down to our Pueblos

The stories I heard from my ppl, Huachelo, was not that we did slave work beside the African, the stories r that the African was as mean or meaner to the Natives as the European. Many Native ppl perished, but many survived, bc there were millions of us! The USA narrative is so skewed, you can hardly find any truth in it anymore. The Mayas and Aztecs, ( the Aztec r a group of different tribes), were made to work in the mines, where the African didn't wanna work. The Natives fell like flies in the mines. They did not mine for greed, only for need. They were not accustomed to the heavy air in the mines. They let the African work the agriculture, the agriculture is what we were accustomed to. I think I heard that there was a revolt by the Mayan and the Aztec about the work in the mines.
