They are expensive due to the process they use to make them. Also for most states you have to factor in the price of registering a john boat and renewing registration. It doesn't but hatch liners will be for sale by the time they ship, and we won't be gouging you on price like some companies. Campaign already doubled our goal, so you're good regardless!
I make my own hatch liners out of $3 flexible buckets from the hardware store. Kayaks don’t really work that way, mate. Can’t just add 3 inches of width. That’d require a new mold, which cost $90,000 each. If you want a titan, you should buy a titan.
Tons of room. Way more room than my old Outback. I can find out those dimensions. But there’s not much “moving around” in any kayak except sort of a Pro Angler and maybe the Native Titan.
@@YakFishField if you could that be great. I currently have a paddle kayak (3 waters big fish 120) and is 36" wide and has a large platform to move around in (for a kayak). I know I will trade space for the pedal drive moving to a pedal kayak but just trying to give up the least amount possible. Your kayak and the 2019 hobie outback are pretty much the only ones I am considering. Reverse aside each has its highlights. I love the built in footing you have in yours. Both your kayak and the hobie are listed as 34" wide however on the deck side of the walls it looks like yours are a bit thicker (assuming due to the footing molds) and looks like it tapers in more as you get to the bowl than the hobie outback does. But I appreciate you reaching back to me and looking into it, kudos on the kayak it really is a great kayak for the price.
Great video. I still think that the Mirage Drive is one of the most efficient and most quiet pedal drive systems on the market. Ergonomically the push-pull pedaling is easier than the circular bicycle like propeller drives. I personally have not tried the Lightning yet, but I was thinking, why buy a copy; just buy a real Hobie Passport with the GT mirage drive. The drive is the key to the price often comprising 40 to 50% of the cost of the kayak. Hobie has both the manufacturing and design background over the past decades. They already have both a national and international sales and distribution network as well as a proven list of accessories. A sail kit and ama system would be great accessories for this kayak. But if it wasn't for Pelican and Lightning, Hobie would not have addressed this issue of a low cost entry level kayak. Great for the free enterprise system. Thanks for the video, but I'd stick with the real thing which is few hundred dollars cheaper than the Lightning.
Congratulations. I know how hard you have worked for this opportunity. I'm sure it's a chance at a dream come true. You have always shown your passion to this great sport to us anglers. Shown us the love you have for fishing and most of all kayak fishing. TIGHT LINES
Not one clip that demonstrates any real saltwater application? Saltwater fish\fishing? Seems like marketing may have overlooked just throwing me a bone regarding my area of interest. Good luck with the boat and the business venture, but right now it's not clear you're targeting my $$$

Yes a walk through would be nice from bow to stern. Yet on the other hand being Canadian we still be paying over a couple of grand. I'll stick with my paddle.
That's awesome and yak looks great! What are your plans for Nebraska when you make it out this way? If you haven't done much research yet Lake Minatare is great for walleye, few different bass species, northern pike, and catfish.
Looks nice and it is cheaper than others but I can't say it's affordable. Affordable is subjective and this is way beyond my means at the moment. I can't haul it anyway. It does look very nice though.
Hey congratulations on your new build. I could not tell from the video if you can steer from both sides of the kayak . I currently own a outback which I like but, being left handed it's frustrating to have to change hands with the rod or cross over with the right hand to steer. I know try fishing with your right hand, tried that and missed a lot of fish. So, is there plans in the future to have dual steering.
I definitely like the words "affordable" and " Pedal Drive"... Went to webpage and can't find any specs of kayak itself: length, width, etc??? One think I did notice is that it is priced right for us average income people, thanks a lot for making this happen guys....
Manny Garcia I read it on one of the pages. There’s a picture of the Yak with the specs around it. The pic was down the page enough you had to scroll to see it.
Congratulations on your new adventure. Always enjoy all your social media posts. I've shared this video with many friends. Look forward to seeing future videos of you fishing out of the Lightning Strike w/ Ms Jamie Costa
Awesome, great news. Questions.. Reverse? Have you taken it offshore yet? Speed? Compatible with the Mirage Drive? Transducer placement? Looking forward to seeing this in action.
It doesn't have reverse, there's a patent on that. I took it offshore and it handled mild surf and decent chop like a champ. It's fast. It is compatible with Mirage Drives including the 180. There's a transducer pocket under the hull.
I’m sure someone will come out with one in that range. For $1,300, someone could get a kayak and a trolling motor and they won’t even need to do any pedaling or rowing
When do you think distributors will start seeing them? It looks like a great Kayak. I have been saving up for the compass but would love to test one of these out first.
why is it no one ever says the total wgt. capacity .. for us bigger fellas... it would be helpful to us to make a decision on the yak that will work for us...many pfd's or yaks in the market for us bigger people.. thats a market u can steal.. lots of us enjoy the outdoors..but this is one of the main problems we have.. no one wants to take that step in targeting the "the bigger fellas needs"....there's a wide open market for PFD's and Yaks for someone to make plenty of money...its for whoever wants to target the plus size folks.. i own a 20ft sea ark flat bottom but id like to go out with lots of my buddies yak fishing.. a decent size and priced PFD and ayak is all we ask....😁👍
Why is it no one ever looks into anything before griping about lack of info? The link in the description or the next video on my channel or a simple google search will yield answers to everything you’re seeking.
Look to Native Watercraft. My Titan 10.5 will hold 500+ Pounds...! It's fast, stable, and turns tight. (I don't have balance, that's why I chose it...along with the pedal drive, as I can't paddle a yak anymore-bad shoulder and age). I'm 73, but can still pick it up and put it in the water (less than 100#, without the pedal drive). Last Fall, I had 2 kids in there "helping me fish"! One sat on the Bow, the other on a milk crate. Both caught fish. I'm way "North" of 225#, and with the kids, gear, and everything, I was pushing over 400# in the Yak. Not a problem at all, even in light chop.

I did. Just want to make sure it will be here for early spring fishing. I’ve been defending you on the Kayak Bass Fishing forums. Some of those folks are extremely defensive and attack anyone who they think may threaten Hobie or Bonafide. May don’t realize how getting the price down is great for the sport. I applaud your efforts. Really looks like a solid product.
Also on the walk through video are those actual Hobie parts shown? the click and go, the rudder plate, the secondary steering handle, the rudder T handle and the drive itself?
I would buy a kayak from you any day. Why? Simply because you actually use them! That's one thing that these companies that crank out these kayaks (solely to make money) don't seem to understand is that we actually use them. We practically live in them (except for unfortunate hours of rest and work) during the summer. I don't honestly believe a kayak I've ever owned (borrowed, or rented!) was ever designed by an actual kayaker or fisherman. I have found flaws in everyone of them. From miserable storage, to unstable, to just poorly designed. Its about time someone that knows the score got in the game!!! I hope you rock the kayak market!!! Because its needed a good shaking up for a long, long, long time!!!
Robert, Glad to contribute. Your videos, energy, passion and love for fishing and the outdoors are all very inspiring. As well as the courage and dedication to make that life change to begin with! Thanks for sharing all of the great information through your videos. Continued good luck and maybe someday we will cross paths in the freshwater swamps or saltwater marshes of south Louisiana.
Robert Field Thanks for the reply Robert! Can’t imagine how busy you are. But man this has to be exciting - to take such a big step producing a kayak and seeing it be so well received. Just watched the walkthrough video. Very excellent. That boat looks so smooth in the water! I will certainly buy one in the future (just bought an Old Town Topwater PDL at the end of the summer). If my girlfriend continues to fish, the Strike will be the perfect gift for her. (And I would fully intend to “borrow” it many days!). Anyhow, congrats on the great response to this campaign. I’m hoping to fish PAC around Jan. 13 and will certainly make an attempt to return during the period you are there. Such an awesome place. Around Thanksgiving I had three days with a total of 180 trout caught closer to home - Cypremort Point in Vermillion Bay. Have most of it on film, but don’t have the editing and production skills you have. Will work on it. Continued good luck with the Strike and safe travels and good fishing!! Mark Guilbeau - GO Fishing!!
Robert Field me too man!! You guys did great!! $1500 is very reasonable for a pedal drive!! People don’t understand the process of what it takes to make and mass produce these things!!
Although that is a price point consideration and space. There is a huge kayak part to angling going on and that includes kayak only tournaments. I do not want to be in a kayak tournament with a bunch of lightweight pedal kayaks and one big jon boat with paddles or a trolling motor. If comparing jon boat or kayak its better to decide how many people you will be boating with, if one person, a kayak is definitely worthwhile instead. you can get by without a trailer and yearly registrations and titling costs just by pickup bed or car racks.
I guess I should have been more specific. There is or is not a place built into the craft? A livewell or attachable bag. I'm just now looking into a kayak, I'm used to our bass boat with live wells everywhere. I want something I can launch by myself, since my husband seems to be over fishing. I usually spend the entire day on the water, and while I release most of the fish, at the end of the day I want a live fish when I haul out.
@@mikesigncarver3803 true just wish Canada had more options like this kayak and other brand names because that is a nice kayak. Unless your rich.....and I'm not 😂

Hi Robert, I’ll save you some time so you won’t have to read 400 comments (bonus sarcasm included) 1) Bro, it don’t have reverse. Those guys that fished pre-2017 are dinosaurs. 2) That seat is too low, I never fish rough water and only go as far out as I can cast. 3) you mean you can install a fishfinder without a transducer mount? 4) you should sell this kayak at a loss it’s too expensive 5) why would anyone want such a simple kayak?
Man would love to back you, however I have invested in my old town and I got two boys that need yacks also, chances are I will never be able to afford to replace my old town.
$1400 is a discount? drop another $600 off it and I might think about it. For $600 I could get a normal kayak, Life jacket, battery, trolling motor and a paddle. Just because its about the same as other cheap pedal kayaks for 2019 doesn't make it affordable.
It's not a normal kayak it's a pedal drive and the kayak with all this stuff your getting must be used right. They are making an affordable pedal drive yak for those who want one even big name paddle kayaks go for more than 1400
I don't understand what kind of China-made garbage tier kayaks you're buying for this price, but I guarantee this one will be way better coming from a company with 40 years experience. 1400 is not bad at all.
If your budget is $600, you can't get a high quality pedal drive kayak. Nothing wrong with that, but it's simply impossible to build something like this for even close to that. I want a Lamborghini for $20,000 too.
$1000 is affordable. But $1400 for only 15 of them then it goes up to $1750 is a bit much. There are many pedal drive Kayaks for 2019 around $1000. I don't have a problem with the price I have a problem with this being called affordable! also $1400 - $600 = 800 and comparing a $250,000 car to a $20,000 budget is stupid.
This is epic! Can’t wait to get my hands on one, this is amazing. Great job thank you for helping design a pedal kayak at a price point that is crazy high. Hopefully this will be my retirement present after 24 years of US Army Special Forces service. Again thanks for developing this. 🎣🤙

@@YakFishField can you stand sideways in the deck area where the round hatch is. I would like to be able to move around while drifting, casting all around me.
If the kayak is purchased from the indiegogo site, what or where do I go if something goes wrong or something breaks while under warranty. This is a concern as well as buying one without a hands on feel and inspection. IS there anywhere in the states where the product can be checked out. Thanx looks like a winner
Very nice looking kayak. Very interested but also have questions about transducer placement, also can turbo fins be added then lastly what cart design would be needed?
It has a transducer cover on the bottom of the hull. Longer fins will come on the final product, and we will be selling masts for Turbo Fins for dirt cheap if you want to upgrade to those. A rear scupper cart will work on it and it has reinforced scuppers, or a universal cart like the Railblaza C-Tug cart would work great as well.
We didn't, the boat doesn't have reverse. But in my experience the reverse drives are unreliable (mine is broken in 2 places right now) and I use reverse about 1% of the time.

Kayaks don’t really work that way, mate. Can’t just add 3 inches of width. That’d require a new mold, which cost $90,000 each. If you want a titan, you should buy a titan.
Will existing Hobie mirage and 180 drives work with this boat?
Yes
So it could have reverse? Theoretically speaking? Can it be purchased w o the drive unit if we have a unit already?
LOOKS AWESOME !!!! does it have reverse ?
No it doesn’t. Still a patent on that. But it’ll accept a reverse drive
Ha ha...what does that mean, "ridiculously exaffordable" 7:14 ? Ha ha...great work on expanding your business adventures.
Hahaha hey man, did it all in one take, coulda been much worse!
lmao! I caught that too! Other words it's not going to be cheap later on!
Question I know the width of the boat is listed but how wide is the deck? How much room do you really have to stand and move around?
Well according to the comments, if I can provide a similar product for $999, I'd be a millionaire.
Yes you would
Yes u would
Yes indeed iu wud.
Im thinking about bildung some and selling them for like 500 bucks bc 2000 dollars for some kayaks is to much ee need more afroable
I looked at the indiegogo and I believe the lightning strike kayak is about $1500.
I'm new to kayaks but that seems like a lot of money.
How does it track? Looks kinda wide in the rear. Also looks comparable to old town pdl but with a mirage drive.
It’s nothin like the Predator PDL, although i liked that boat when i used it. Tracks great with the tri hull design. Super stable too.

@@YakFishField you welcome and good luck
Not one clip that demonstrates any real saltwater application? Saltwater fish\fishing? Seems like marketing may have overlooked just throwing me a bone regarding my area of interest.
Good luck with the boat and the business venture, but right now it's not clear you're targeting my $$$
It’s a kayak? It’ll work in salt water. There was also a red fish. This seemed to be filmed locally where the company is located.
It will handle saltwater the same as it handles fresh. All the info is in the campaign, click Read The Story if you're on your phone: bit.ly/LightningStrikeIGG

Is this still available or sold out?
The campaign is over, but they’ll be available on our website soon
Robert Field what is the website URL
Yes a walk through would be nice from bow to stern. Yet on the other hand being Canadian we still be paying over a couple of grand. I'll stick with my paddle.
Just posted it!
Is that a transducer mounting spot under the seat? Thanks great video!
Yes it is!
The rudder handle can be moved to the other side.
Outrageous priced also it's not for the common person. Maybe I should build one truly for the people.
Do it.
How much longer will this special rate be going on for?
It’s over.
I definitely like the words "affordable" and " Pedal Drive"...
Went to webpage and can't find any specs of kayak itself: length, width, etc???
One think I did notice is that it is priced right for us average income people, thanks a lot for making this happen guys....

Thanks for sharing it! And coming soon!

It would be cool to have an electronic reverse implementation could be put on the steering mechanism
How does this compare to the Pelican 130 pedal drive? Both are in the same price range. What makes this one better than the Pelican?
Less than $1,000 would be affordable, good luck to you and your friend!
Less than $1,000 would be impossible for something of reasonable quality.
I’m sure someone will come out with one in that range. For $1,300, someone could get a kayak and a trolling motor and they won’t even need to do any pedaling or rowing
lol less than a $1000
Donny Engler yes sir!
When do you think distributors will start seeing them? It looks like a great Kayak. I have been saving up for the compass but would love to test one of these out first.
Dealers will start getting them early March
why is it no one ever says the total wgt. capacity .. for us bigger fellas... it would be helpful to us to make a decision on the yak that will work for us...many pfd's or yaks in the market for us bigger people.. thats a market u can steal.. lots of us enjoy the outdoors..but this is one of the main problems we have.. no one wants to take that step in targeting the "the bigger fellas needs"....there's a wide open market for PFD's and Yaks for someone to make plenty of money...its for whoever wants to target the plus size folks.. i own a 20ft sea ark flat bottom but id like to go out with lots of my buddies yak fishing.. a decent size and priced PFD and ayak is all we ask....😁👍
I seriously may have to get 1 or 2. Will I get it in February?

What a cool process to be involved in... And I know you'll put it to work now too!! 🎣🎣🎣
Yes I will!
You hooked me when you said it was made in the USA and only 1000 compared to the regular 2500. I’ll seriously consider getting one
It’s the best value in the biz if you ask me

Such as?
@@YakFishField Is the plan just factory direct? and if so are you planning to send people to a Hobie dealer for drive service?
Also on the walk through video are those actual Hobie parts shown? the click and go, the rudder plate, the secondary steering handle, the rudder T handle and the drive itself?
@@oexsunsetbeach saw the hobie logo on the seat too
@@colinwalls7300 there's no Hobie logo on the seat. You don't know Hobie kayaks if you think that seat even looks like a Hobie seat!😂
Is there a dual seat version?
No, but we may do a tandem down the road if this one does well.
Thanks for the support Larry! I completely agree.
Robert,
Glad to contribute.
Thanks so much for your support brother! And I'l be in Louisiana Jan 20-30th at PAC Kayak Rentals, maybe we can make it happen.
Mean while a 14ft jon boat is just $699
I can think of about 30 reasons why I'd much rather have a pedal kayak than a jon boat.
Robert Field love it great idea. I have a hobie, but love making this world more accessible to everyone!
Two different beasts.
Where do you put the fish 🐟?
In a cooler?
I guess I should have been more specific. There is or is not a place built into the craft? A livewell or attachable bag. I'm just now looking into a kayak, I'm used to our bass boat with live wells everywhere. I want something I can launch by myself, since my husband seems to be over fishing. I usually spend the entire day on the water, and while I release most of the fish, at the end of the day I want a live fish when I haul out.
I was hoping to see $1000 or less, sorry man i cant do that
You'll be waiting a long time for a boat even close to this caliber at $1,000. It just isn't doable.

I’ll save you some time so you won’t have to read 400 comments (bonus sarcasm included)
1) Bro, it don’t have reverse. Those guys that fished pre-2017 are dinosaurs.
2) That seat is too low, I never fish rough water and only go as far out as I can cast.
3) you mean you can install a fishfinder without a transducer mount?
4) you should sell this kayak at a loss it’s too expensive
5) why would anyone want such a simple kayak?
Lol nailed it

How is it inshore, curious how it would do in a bay or sound conditions with chop and a tide?
Handles chop great. Took it through the surf and it handled it well.
PSOCrocker is right, $1400 is way over priced. Pedal kayak demand is up and there are some good ones under $1000.

Biggest issue I have is how do you pedal in reverse. Since new mirage drive 180 is patented how did y'all accomplish that
We didn't, the boat doesn't have reverse. But in my experience the reverse drives are unreliable (mine is broken in 2 places right now) and I use reverse about 1% of the time.
How to order
