You know that bacony smell you smell in someone’s house or maybe your own. That’s a byproduct of poor ventilation and most of the vent hoods on the market like ceiling blowers, downdrafts and even most range hoods are not designed to handle a significant volume of grease splatter, odor and gasses off a high output burner, so it stays in your house.
In this video, you'll learn about 7 vents that will safely evacuate all the odor, grease and gasses out of your kitchen.
In the end, you'll know which vent is right for you.

Man..... I really wish there was a Yale here in Oregon. Im so thankful for all the information in your videos. I really need to get a good hood!
Glad to help
Would love if Yale expanded or moved big into e-commerce.
What do you think about the avant-garde hoods. Are they well made?
What are your thoughts on the fisher & paykel range hood.. no information on their hoods anywhere. More specifically the HCB30-6
I see a few of your best hoods are made By elica! Under the Leone model!
Will Yale do a review of proper range hoods for even Ge oven ranges for small to medium kitchens? Or even the best replacement range hood for replacing an OTR microwave? Finally since Yales line if excellent hood are not available out side of in store, it be nice if you could review hoods that are available nationwide. Thank you for your channel and reviews i really value by them for their turthfulness and factual style.
Sure...anything in particular?
@@YaleAppliance1 Hi Steve, thanks for writing back. I am replacing the 2018 model OTR microwave with something better. I have a GEPGB935YPFS range with 63500 total BTU output and 6-inch ducting. The OTR has never been good. I looked at mid to high-end 30" under cabinet exhaust hoods (or wall-mounted units) to replace the OTR vent. Makers like Hauslane, Fotile Slant, Broan, Zline, GE_cafe inserts, Cosmo, and Pacific offer something. Still, it is difficult to choose what will work best for lots of stove-top grilling and even oven venting (recently did a mass of caramelized onions (12) in the oven with convection roast. They turned out great, but it smelled like onion everywhere because the OTR vent couldn't keep up. I feel that the really cheap and thin ones won't do the job, but I didn't want to spend the 1600 the the Fotile slant is, but I will IF it will mean really helping with the exhaust of fumes and smoke. I am in an older home in California, so make-up air shouldn't be a problem. I need at least 600-650 CFM using the rule of 100 CFM for every BTU if that is valid. Units evaluated for quietness, ease of cleaning, lighting, etc., your standard fare. An excellent comparison video would be really useful on the channel as I am sure there a many people with smaller kitchens that want to replace the OTR microwave for better venting, Big box stores have 'under cabinet' or even wall mount hoods starting as low as 149.00 but I can't see those really doing the job so some quality comparisons like you do so well on your channel will really help the little, regular consumer like me. Thank you for an excellent channel, and I really appreciate the information. I would buy from you if your firm shipped to California, and indeed, if I were in Boston, your store would always be my choice.
Do all of these have dishwasher safe filters? If not, then which brand/model of hood vent is easiest to clean and why do you think so?
All the commercial baffles are dishwasher safe
Do you have a video of the best options for non-professional ranges ie Samsung gas bespoke with griddle
It depends on how you cook.....You may need a pro, because that Samsung has a 21 and 19K burner in the front
@@YaleAppliance1 are there non-stainless steel colored pro hoods - because I definitely will be using the grill/griddle as well as high heat searing and wok use
Don't forget, any CFM over 450 requires a make-up air system.
Its 400 CFM in Massachusetts
Even for older “drafty” homes??
Same question as Akil. Also, what if you are fully electric?
Electric/induction have the same requirements. You're roughly about 400 CFMs for either and most try to go just below that to avoid make up air system requirements.
Steve mentioned a French door 36" range, I can't find it on your site, can I get more information please, thank you.
La Cornue makes one but you have to go to 42". Manufacturers like Ilve and Verona make 36" double door units but they drop down, they do not open away.
Can we get yale hoods in California? I assume we would just order them?
Also will you make an island hood like the Yale triangle shaped hood? I have will have a thermador freedom induction but might have to go back to 36" gas if they cannot supply, so that is why I was looking at a cfm 27" deep , 36 or 42" long hood, venting is straight up, 9.5' ceiling.
I appreciate your firms videos. I think you should open a winter store in San Diego, you'd love it here. thank you for a useful video on a really needed subject. Now do speed ovens and where they can mount!
Currently we do not ship out of New England. Sorry about that.....
36 inch gas range top mounted in a center island. What hood ? Does Yale make a Center Island hood ? Thank You !
Need an island hood of 36-42 inches. Island hoods are attached to the ceiling
Why are the lights placed at the front of the hood? I have a cheap, under-powered range hood with the vents in the back and the lights in the front (as most of them are configured). With the gas supply coming up from the floor the stove is a few inches from the wall. This formula results in virtually no smoke being captured by the range hood. I recently went shopping for a range hood and saw only one model with the lights placed closer to the wall.
You want the capture to be over the front burners......good point on the lights
What do you recommend for kitchens without any ventilation?
Opening windows, air cleaners...tough call. Let me know more about the space.
@@YaleAppliance1 Condominium apartment. Middle floor. There is a window only a few feet away from the range, but no option to add kitchen exhaust to the outside. Aren't there hoods with integrated filters designed for such purposes?
How many cfms do you recommend for the Wolf 6 burner rangetop (SRT 366) ? A heating and AC tech told me that anything over 650 CFM is overkill. i would never likely have more than 3 burners going at the same time.
Burners are easier than griddle or grill, but it depends on how you cook. That said I normally recommend 600 over burners
I am still not clear what kind of "trades" actually installs (retrofit) vented under cabinet 1000CFM hoods including all necessary 6" ductwork venting outdoors ? HVAC ? Electrician ? Carpenter ?
Hmmm...Our installers do. Basic power, wiring, and carpentry
Any insight on the elica 36 inch pro series by Leone. Looking at buying this model for island range?
Elica has decent hoods
@@YaleAppliance1 I am in michigan, do you distribute here? If not what is a brand you recommend for an island hood on 8 foot ceilings for an island hood
Which island hood do you recommend for the 36” all gas Café CGY366P2TS1 range ? Something in the mid price range. I have heard that I have to divide total BTU by 100. (91000 /100= 910 CFM)
Depends on how you cook....stir frying may need more..That said, you can build your own with a wood enclosure and then buying the power pack. For island, Best has some decent styles.
@@YaleAppliance1 What is the lowest CFM for 91000 BTU should I buy? Is this true that 910 CFM ? We like stir frying 😀
I would make the hood one size bigger than the range. For example, 48" range with 60" hood.
Dont need to.....
Unless its in an island
@@YaleAppliance1 But then you can put other countertop kitchen appliances underneath the hood. Such as a wok burner, deep fryer, griddle, etc.
My HVAC guy recommended the same. 42" hood for 36" cooktop.
ZLINE reviews for their products?
Dont sell it.......
What about vent-a-hood?
I like Vent A Hood....
The Yale hood is 25 inches deep? Then a tall chef will hit his head right there?
23-24...some are 27. It only hurts a bit :)
Thermador hoods are lemons! In fact, all Thermador appliances are junk. They look good but piece of crap inside. My Hood broke down within two years and needs a new Motor and Capacitor or a blower, but Thermador discontinued the blower and the motor for the model they still sell. They do not offer an alternative replacement. Their only option is to replace the whole hood that we paid a fortune for just a few years ago. Buyer beware and Yale please don't push products that are now well known to be junk. Please see all consumer reports. #Thermador, #Thermadoor Appliances
No yali no hoods !!
