My son is in prison for selling marijuana/hidden compartment received a 6 yr sentenced Nov. will be 2 years. He is an amazing young man and wanted me to share this song with family & friends!! Thank you!!
Sorry about your son....it is a bunch of crap that they lock people up for pot and ruin there lives over it...I speak from experience .... hope he doesn't go down that bad bad road because of it...great taste in music for sure!!!
Six years for selling marijuana! what state is this in? Outrageous! We do not live in a democracy - we live in a police state! I live in California and its completely legal here. Have you thought of petitioning the governor to commute the sentence or pardon him? I mean, he has already served two years for a harmless offense. So sad. I am a lawyer and I am totally disgusted with the entire legal system, especially the criminal law. Was he pushed into a plea deal? Probably.
I never got too much into Norah Jones, but she was a favorite of my mom's growing up. I am however a huge fan of the grateful dead. And to hear my music merge with my late mother's, is quite an interesting thing to hear/see... needless to say this gave me the chills as soon as it started. Jerry is smiling down!
As you listen to the lullaby think what he added! & say God's Speed to the poet **Robert Hunter**. Thanks for all the words, Bob! The lyrics to the soundtrack of my & so many others lives The words you wrote are more poignant than any others and still ring true today.
This is awesome. I love both the singer and the author. What a combination! I just this evening discovered this and others of the same song she had done. I think this is the best. Anyway I am in heaven listening...
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, I don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water Where there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water Where there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall you fall alone If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home
It appears that she sang censored lyrics by changing “not made by the hands of men” to “not touched by the hands of men”, I believe I know why the lyrics were changed and I don’t agree with messing up an artist’s lyrics. If you don’t like the lyrics then don’t sing the artist’s song. That said, I suppose if the artist did not care, I would not object. I’m guessing Robert Hunter would not have cared but who knows. Edit: she sang the original lyrics at Monterrey and at 80th birthday of Jerry Garcia so who really knows; or really cares? 😀
I really really really really really appreciate Norah Jones and her sister Anushka they are such a gift to the world seems to me like Divine Spirit flows freely through them
Rest in peace Robert Hunter. If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music Would you hold it near as it were your own? This song was written after the hippie culture in SF had long since faded. The lyrics are like, "Whatever. We have to keep truckin no matter what. I don't know what's goin on anymore ... probably never did. All I can do is sing, for whatever that's worth. Whether it's worth anything is up to you to decide."
"Ripple" was written in 1971 by Bob Hunter, reputedly after downing a bottle of Ouzo. First performed by Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, this song is probably the most powerful and important song to emerge from the 1960s.
Lead thou must, if lead thou dost choose, But fall thou may, alone thou'll lose, If stand thou canst, then who shall guide? If I knew the way, I'd lead thee by my side.
Her voice is beautiful; here are the actual lyrics as written by Robert Hunter: If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand, if your cup be empty If your cup is full, may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go, no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall you fall alone If you should stand then who's to guide you? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this song, I just don't like the country "TWANG" they added to it, It changes the feeling of the whole song to me. If you want to do a cover of a song go ahead, just be true to the song and don't try to change it to something it isn't.
I think artists should interpret songs they way they want and breathe new life into them. Several Dead songs are becoming standards, which is wonderful..
Being a 60 year old fan of most music, I am most grateful of this cover Norah...Janes Addictions version also brings the tears...thank you Norah Jones
❤❤❤❤
Brooklyn
Jerry and Hunter are smilin in heaven. Beautiful!

Ridiculous. While the privileged get away with much worse and we turn our heads. Strength to you and your family

Jean be strong. So sad to hear of such a bullshit charge. I have two grown boys! Let the music be your inspiration to go forth💕 💕🇨🇦💕💕

Stunning. The gift of song just keeps on giving...
Norah's got a real genius to covering tunes. She makes them shine in a whole new way.
The beauty is so much that it takes my words away. Extremely beautiful, Norah.
Norah is such a great vocalist & soulful performer. One of my very favorite singers. Thx for this
Loved this show...was there with my daughter! Her best song though...brought me to tears...Humble Me Lord...thanks for posting.

This comes mighty close: ua-cam.com/video/MHo1fNnXFVU/v-deo.html
And Garcia lives on!
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music?
Would you hold it near as it were your own?
It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Perhaps they're better left unsung
I don't know, I don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air
Ripple in still water
Where there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men
There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone
Ripple in still water
Where there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow
You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home
Thank you for posting the lyrics. I am about to copy them.

Awesome.
We were there @jamesjimiruccolo @jimiruccolo @jamesruccolo
Lovely!
Lovely;but it was Jerry Garcia & one of his band wrote the song & first sang it!!!
RIP Robert Hunter💓
Who is the brilliant guitarist? He makes it sound like a guitar, a steel pedal, and a mandolin all at the same time!
Yeah he does a great job. Gives it a nice feel.
I think the pedal steel is a tape loop he's adding in - there's a brief part where it plays while he's not fingering the guitar at all.
that's Jason Roberts

"That's Otis."
Fabulous music, as always from NJ. just a little creeped out *someone* blurred her band's faces into, well, faceless people :(
OMG wouldn't that be a great twilight zone movie?
