      At uni we call playing Giant Steps as a bossa "Baby Steps".
      I mean not to detract from how good this guy is at all. I'm sure he crushes it at all tempos.

      Because it’s 1/2 time. The chords are moving at half the coltrane tempo, Kind of like Metheny’s version.

    Everyone hears what is familiar to them.
    I hear Scott Henderson's tremolo technique and phrasing being used all over this piece.
    We all have a mix of undeniable influences in our playing styles. More than anything... I'm hearing Matteo Mancuso 👍🙂

      Strong at 0:35 right? It isn't just the tremolo technique there, the outline of the phrase itself has a Scott Henderson flavor to it.

    • @plan9-L.Sciggs
      @plan9-L.Sciggs 2 роки тому +2

      The Henderson tremolo technique is there start to finish. In some parts Scott Henderson's phrasing is undeniable and Scott's phrasing can't be done without the use of that trem technique.
      Some of the single note runs without the use of the tremolo are all Matteo (which are both beautiful and staggering🤯)
      I agree with others here. Matteo is incredibly talented and unique. I can listen to him play for hours!He is among the top guitarists of his generation.
      Matteo....please give us a recording project. The world is patiently waiting👍

    • @plan9-L.Sciggs
      @plan9-L.Sciggs 2 роки тому

      @@lukdbWhenever he uses Scott's phrasing the trem is what makes it. Like I mentioned in my comment, Scott's phrasing and trem technique are like peanut butter and jelly they go hand in hand. I'm hearing an amalgam of Scotts technique and phrasing from Chicks electric band,tribal tech and Scotts solo records.

      @@paulsimon6544 c'mon man, of course I did, but leaving him -the author himself- aside, and the fact there's very thin line where his solo goes from melodic ideas to turn into bebop scale semi-random grade phrasing (y'all come at me and change my mind). I'm pretty aware that it's "part of the language", and that he's one of the big masters of it, yeah... but we're discussing MELODY here, not spicy bebop phrasing.

    • @AndyMcIntire
      @AndyMcIntire 2 роки тому +6

      @@SolvingOurKreation956 On the one hand, there are influences, but on the other, it's about different artists exploring a space, phenomenon or language, which is more universal. All of these musicians are exploring atonality, and speaking the language and revealing it with their own voices. Another way to describe it is abstract expressionism, as with Schoenberg and Berg through music, or as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko paralleled visually. It seems to be a form of automatism outpouring from the unconscious. That Matteo is exposing and modeling this space through his own vision is marvelous and helpful for us to better understand it, in addition to the evolution of his voice and body of work. I'd love to hear his thoughts about this. I'd also be interested to hear his rendition of an impressionist piece, or even better, an original impression. Though I suppose all of his originals could be considered impressions.

Matteo plays very sophisticated "inside". But i am speaking from my own experience , ears as a pro, not as a musicologist. LOL Wher do you hear "atonality" dude ? As an example do you consider Coltrane's "Giant steps" atonal ? It's not. Just 3 tonic system. Also, point out wher is Matteo playing or "exploring atonality" ? LOL.
