Addressing Complaints About the SDCC LPS

- I've seen a lot of discourse online these past couple days regarding the SDCC exclusive LPS, so I figured I would do my part to address the situation. My goal is to present information to let you guys form your own opinions, as well as to facilitate a safe space for mature and respectful discussion.
As an LPS Brand Ambassador, it is also important for me to note that I recognize my privilege in this position and that I have NOT been persuaded by BasicFun or anyone else to make this video. This is my own choice and my own thoughts and I would be doing this regardless of my position.
Anyways, I'd love to continue to listen to you guys and hear your thoughts. It's perfectly all right to be frustrated and disappointed, but we should also be excited to see the dragon LPS back! I hope this means that more will be released in the future that can be obtainable for everyone worldwide. Convention exclusives are a big aspect of collector brand nowadays, but I'm not a fan of region locking said exclusives. So let me know your thoughts in the comments down below, along with what you think could be done differently for this situation in the future.

i personally enjoy the fact that there’s an exclusive lps, i do just wish it was an lpscon exclusive instead of comic con. just so more collectors/fans have a chance to get these items instead of scalpers!
It’s so cool that there is finally more dragons. I do wish they announced the cc exclusive a little earlier however due to the fact that, unlike Funko, we were not expecting a comic con exclusive.
I'm new to collecting LPS and I'm grateful to be able to walk into Wal-Mart and buy many LPS at one time. We as a whole group shouldn't act like spoilt brats. 😊
I do feel like people overreact and excessively hate on everything Basic Fun does. Even getting mad at repros even though that's what Basic Fun as a company does. Or acting like hasbro hasn't done these things. In fact saying ''at least LPS are back''' is more valid than the ''criticism'' about literally everything. Obviously not everything is gonna be the way everybody wants it to be. Not everybody will get every pet and not everybody is going to like them all so the fact that these ADULTS act this way is beyond me. You are so right to say it is a want and not a need to have these so I think people shouldn't act like its the end of the world that somebody that isnt them will get these dang dragons. Acting like they'd have a bigger chance if it was online(knowing scalpers it would be easier only for them and their 70 alternative accounts) but irl at least they can only get 1 max
They have every opportunity to put the dragons online for everyone to buy but I guess pandering to scalpers is more important 🤔
I confused on why all 3 dragons have to be a sdcc exclusive. I’m glad that there is sdcc exclusive and feel 1 or 2 variants would have been fair and left the other variants for open retailers to stock. While I’m not a collector of lps I do collect dolls, my experience is that there are not variants of sdcc dolls for sdcc let alone any other versions for retail. So to me the fact that there are 3 versions being released should have included some versions for retail! Also it’s the year of the dragon so why would a company be limiting the possibility of an item like this that is a dragon from widely selling and being available. It is counter productive to only release the dragon for sdcc when basic fun aims to grow the market and demand for this new lps generation… I would have been interested to pickup the dragon, even at an elevated price possibly, for an addition to my collection had there been any version available in stores. I suspect that many lps collectors would have agreed and done so as well.
My only problem with Basic Fun LPS is that it's INCREDIBLY hard to find the two packs. I'm from Louisiana and my local Gamestop doesn't have them neither does my local Wal-Mart. There's a Macy's and a Gamestop a few miles away, but since the Macy's is connected to a mall, I won't be able to go. And I have no idea if we'll able to be go to the GameStop. I really hope Basic Fun will make LPS easier to find for everyone, especially the two pack sets. Since the pet nooks are re-releasing some of the pets from Wave 1, I hope the wolf and the tiger get released in Pet Nooks, it's my last chance to get them. I actually had a few ideas for future pets: a blue wolf with a silver crescent moon pattern on its side [representing a new personality: curious], a Maltese Tiger [a blue-grey tiger, fanciest], a monarch butterfly [possibly sassiest?], a blue dragon with pink scales [personality: hungriest, and it could have a smores accessory], a blue and pink bee [personality: friendliest], a green seahorse [personality: sportiest], and an albino mouse [personality: chilliest]. I think that there's so much potential for insect and sea creature LPS. I'm also glad Basic Fun is continuing the retro Pound Puppies [hoping for Pound Purries] and retro MLP [curious if they'll make flutter ponies], and I can't wait to see what else they have up their sleeve for this year. I think it would be neat if Basic Fun revived Dakin Dream Pets, a series of plush animals from the 50s and 60s that have a really cute and unique retro style, and I feel they might have been inspiration for LPS? They even had numbers!
I cannot believe people are harassing Basic Fun through the costumer support over this? I'm upset too, but I at least understand why Basic Fun is making Comic Con exclusives rare. I personally hope that Wave 3 will have common dragons, especially a seafoam green dragon, an ocean blue dragon, and a pink dragon with blue scales. I'd like to send my ideas to Basic Fun, but I don't want to annoy them, especially after what's happened.
I really hope Basic Fun will make LPS easier to find [especially if they have all of the two packs available to buy on Amazon], since it's been hard for me to find them. My local Gamestop and Walmart barely have any, and I can't go to Macy's because it's in a mall. I'm grateful LPS are back, but I wish they were easier to find.
Thanks for sharing this video Eddie! I think on one hand, a fair level of criticism and discourse is valid and warranted to help distribution of future products improve over time (We can all agree that scalpers are the worst!) On the other hand, excessive negativity and pointing fingers left and right can do more harm than good.
as much as i love the concept of event exclusive collector's items it doesn't work as well when we think about scalpers and the whole ticket situation, as well as the mystery box thing for $25 bucks. it's not the best combination of things and feels like the opposite of what BasicFun has said they'd do regarding the pricing of these new gen LPS. they stated that the gold dragon will be numbered 1-2024, implying that there's 2024 golden dragons...which feels odd when the announcement and event were done in such an odd order. like you mentioned, you're not sure how many LPS collectors will even be there bc of the ticket situation. it's a little sad, makes me wonder how many of them will actually get sold, and what will happen with any leftover LPS
I think for a lot of collectors this was a breaking point that led to so much backlash.
Honestly, wanting the Dragon mold to come back & then seeing it drop as a SDCC exclusive feels like a huge monkey's paw situation lol. But on a serious note, this is just a really messy decision. Even though this was likely planned a long time ago, doing exclusives

In my experience many convention exclusives show up in some store couple years later and for cheap
I'm an lps collector, and i live in the center of Europe. I rlly hope i can get the all of these dragons in nib. But its gona be hard, if we only can buy for horrible prices. I can't just fly to the con to buy a ticket and then buy mystery packages to get one of them. So i hope Basic fun will sell them online, even if only for a short time...
Honestly I kinda wish they made it actually available to more people. I don’t live in San Diego but I legally can’t travel to go to that Comic con. And it kinda sucks that these won’t at least be sold mainly online since I absolutely love the dragons. So that is my main concern.
While I'd like to see a few Main 5 pets, I'd especially ADORE if Basic Fun brought back the bees, ladybugs, butterflies, lop rabbits in the 4-legged sitting pose [rabbit 480 as an example], the persian cats in the LPS 460 pose, dragonflies, and seahorses! I'd also love if they made dinosaurs, merpets, new fairies, griffins, fennec foxes, and hyenas. I miss LPS Seahorses, Bees, Ladybugs, and Butterflies the most.
