And in the 90s and early 2000s, they were dirt cheap compared to today. I paid $300 for mine in 1998. Still have it. Never dreamed it would be worth more than what I paid back when I got it. Didn't care either. It was my teenage dream synth from the early 80s. I got lucky finding it and I wasn't the first to look at it. Guy had even cropped the price because nobody wanted it. Have times changed!!
Yep, Jupiters, Junos, JXs, they all went for pennies on the dollar back in the 90s as everyone was bailing for the latest digital wunderkind. Wish I'd had the presence of mind to grab a 106 and a jx-8p back then. :( Fortunately there are some crackerjack programmers out there writing VSTs that are scary-accurate mimics of the classics, so we mere mortals who can't spend more on a keyboard than we did on our cars have an outlet for our old-synth angst! :D
PolySix for £100 for me in the mid 2000s. Just recently cleaned all the key contacts, calibrated the oscillators and replaced two switches. Adore the sound and don't think I'll ever part with it.
Folks, the prices for vintage gear are getting way out of hand! Also driven by the music influencers. Come on, the Jupiter 8 is nice, but quite limited and definitely not worth 35.000 bucks!
This sounds so nice! Roland should make a new authentic analog reissue of the Jupiter 8. The all-digital Jupiter X isn't the answer (because it's a digital emulation). The Jupiter 8 has real VCOs and real analog filters. That's why it sounds so warm and rich.
You have TAL J8 and Roland Cloud Jupiter 8 V2. TAL J8 is more accurate because of the dual mode and split, Roland's own vst lacks both stuff. For sound quality, both are flawless but TAL has more tweaking options.
@saricubra2867 Oh, okay. Yeah, I've heard Arturia makes great software synths. I have a couple of their hardware flagship analog synths and they're great. I can only imagine their software is probably superb, given they were a software company first before they started make hardware. I'm going to search online and take a look at their Jupiter emulation VST. JUP 8 V4? Cool! Thanks!
The price tag on these has reached a super ridiculous level. And yes, it has a very good and clean sound but I wouldn’t call it overly fat. Buy an OBX8 and you get fat. Even the JP-8 can sound fatter in comparison thanks to its suboscillator and legendary built-in chorus.
Not omly was it used in Thriller but it was also famously used by... . Journey in the song Separate Ways . Queen in ablums A Kind Of Magic, The Works and Hot Space .Duran Duran in most of the album Rio No wonder this thing is so sought after.
It is so special that.... "In the book Let’s Make HIStory, Anthony Marinelli says the synths used for the “Thriller” verse pads are a Roland Jupiter 8 and a Yamaha CS-80. Despite the heavyweight synths used, the sounds are relatively simple and can be created with any polyphonic synth."
It's a beautiful synth, but never worth 35000 coins. The modern alternatives come 95% close and cost a tiny fragment of that price. The audience won't hear the difference.
Not very true.. jupiter 8 was never for sale for 300-500 usd.. !! You buying it for 300 does not represent the current value of that time.. they were around 1500-2000 dollars even for that time.. l bought my first jp8 in New york for 1800 usd in 1991.. and my second one for 3000 usd in 1998 in Germany ( around 5000 deutsch mark) and also the same year got a CS80 for 4000 usd .. thankfully l kept them.. but the prices these days are unreal 😅
The Juno 1 sounded MUCH thicker. And I could trick you on a blind A/B test, with my old Juno60. Stop making music about money and exclusivity. .. Mate 👍🏻

It’s ok. But for that money there are other choices. The JP6 has a much more interesting sound. It’s not as smooth or mellow like the jp8, but it’s more raw thanks to the osc sync. Love it.
$35,000? My friends house cost $17,000 in 1970. I don't like the fashionable obsessing over old synths. It's not real. I had a flagship Novation that sounded just as "fat" as any of these unreliable dinosaurs.

@@TheChadPad Indeed I am.
I don't plan on it. ;-) Nor my Juno 60, JX-3P, Poly 61, CS01 and several other vintage synths I have.
@@mrz80 Yes they did and we will never see deals like that again. If we had just known back then. ;-)

That sound made me feel some sort of way. I got chills
This synthesizer is so rare, I had to rebuild it. Myself.
In fact, it's unique! LOL
My pal bought one for $350 back in 96. We loved patch 36..little rim trigger on the 707 to get things going.
A deep beast..
Repaired a couple of these beasts. Lovely 1980's electronics to work on.
This synth is a true legend❤️👍
Tangerine Dream had this used a lot in the 80's - Chris Franke says he advised Roland on the features too.
my fANTOM 8 HAS THE JUPITER 8 UPGRADE IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE THIS DELICIOUS KEYBOARD FOR ONLY A SMALL UPGRADE CHARGE

I own one!
Well i wish... ;)
Of course i own an emulation. But some yt channels think it's quite OK.

What about the Jupiter 80?
Lovely synth it’s just the price 😱 I could of picked one up for 2 k twenty five years ago I curse my younger self
That pad sound was something desirable I will say.
The closest I can get to this is with my MPC One, Jura plugin with my M-Audio Oxygen 61 Pro.
Can’t wait for the one for the rest of us. Neptune 16
Can you play trance music??
What was the Synth every 2nd person in your home video submissions video seemed to be using?
If someone would start with contrafacting it can be a good money
Worth it still?
When’s the full video?
This is a short from his old video on the Jupiter 8
Price no object omega synth

Or a System 8 with the JP8 ACB extension that sounds indistinguishable from the original
Yeah I think the System 8 does the best emulation of the classic synths, spot on
@@TherasiaGeorion It's good, but not indistinguishable. There's several A/B's on here and actual owners saying they close, but not on other parts.
Why they stop youset in the 90s....
In fact is not as fat as jv ,when you layering same patch in octave up over, and after one more on fifth . And all this with microdelay
I think it cust mor
Great awesome Synth of the early 80s..used ALSO BY NICK RHODES (from #DuranDuran )
Not $35,000 but still quite a lot of money. Fortunately I bought mine long time before this ridiculous speculation.
Play thriller
24k € at Germany eBay 😉👍
I have all of those sounds at a fraction of the cost.
But it's not the real thing🤷
Whyyyyyyyyyy?
I hope you didn't buy one, the Behringer will be sub 1600 ;-)
Probably around $1,200 at most.
Of course the Jp-8 is popular as it's one of the most reliable analogue polyphonic synthesisers.
When it's eventually released. The year 2065 maybe ?
@@clazza65 my guess is 2026😂
I wouldn’t pay 2,000 for that outdated thing.
Sequential Prophet 12 will destroy this. I have owned both so I know. Its way fatter. Plus much more reasonable in price too.
If you’ve seen under the hood of one of these it actually makes me NOT want to own one.ill take my Jupiter XM and go sit in the corner.
🎉A synth to be purchased by the vanity hard worker who possesses money by virtue of his continued hardworking industry? 😮 Right? OK. 🎉
My Jupiter X can do that for a 1/10th of the price
Or XM for even less lol
@@Curious_Skeptic Or their VST for even less less
is too much : P

At one point 2 or 3 years ago I saw them $60-$80k… even saw one going for $120k! It’s crazy
Reverb has several now, average is $33k. So video is still correct
