I love and agree with your comment about the first bite of scone on your British holiday!! And now I’ve watched the entire video at least four times! LOL
The only thing better than a cake trolley is a cheese trolley! But yes, having that amazing cake trolley come by so you can choose which four you want is spectacular!💖
So according to the cake at the end I need to wish you a very happy birthday!!! Seems you spent it in a wonderful place. This video made me very hungry indeed (i have now scientifically confirmed its not possible to taste food on the internet by trying to bite a video monitor!). Lovely video and thanks for sharing. I hope your trip continues to be awesome! cheers from barnyz
Haha! You crack me up! Thanks for the birthday wishes! It’s actually a few weeks away yet, but they have it to me as a birthday present and, really, is it ever to early to start celebrating? 😉
That was fun to watch. There's one downside to afternoon tea. Even though I enjoy it at the time, I always feel the effects of overindulgence immediately afterward. Great job with the video! I almost felt like I was there.
That is so kind of you to say, Ian! This is the first time I’ve filmed a meal and it is hard work!! 😆 Trying not to get sticky sandwich filling and jam all over my phone is impossible! Let’s just say I’m glad I had my eatin’ pants on. I never eat this much and I wasn’t hungry even at breakfast the next morning! 🤣
Oooooh that looked delicious!! I actually really like that they serve the courses separately. While I do love taking a photo of the three tiered tray full of afternoon tea deliciousness, it isn’t practical. I like to be able to sit and enjoy the savoury sandwiches without my scones getting cold! But I don’t like eating the sweet scones first!
I actually liked it too! It did give me a chance to savour the sandwiches without ogling the scones - which I do tend to eat first because I’m impatient 😂
OK, so the ingredient which goes with the rhubarb is litsea cubeba, it's slightly easier to pronounce alternative name is may chang. Flavour is described as sweet, woody aromatic and lemony and can be purchased from Naked Jams.
Ooh, yes, I forgot about that jam. I’m not great at picking up on flavors but I seem to recall a hint of lemon. Also, it looks like you asked who Eric is, but UA-cam’s filter removed the comment. Eric is a subscriber: you will see his username in the comments: “wencire one” Eric likes to call me out when I do something that isn’t “on a budget” which is a fair point. 😄 I try to get cheap options as I tour Britain but I try to fit in a few indulgences as well. I always try to do a few afternoon teas even though the tend to be expensive.
@@karenbartlett1307 They do let you have just one, but this is a very expensive tea at £60. I didn’t actually finish the desserts but was able to take them home for later. You know, you might prefer a smaller tea at some place like Anya Cafe … it’s only £35 or, skip tea in London and enjoy it in a cheaper location like Bath or Edinburgh 👍🏼
You made me so curious I had to look up about the rhubarb jam! Litsea Cubeba… I wouldn’t know how to pronounce it either! It is a plant native to south Asia, and the name means “mountain Pepper“! That is the most obscure thing I’ve ever heard of to put in rhubarb jam! But I’d still probably like it 😋
The waiter who served it had a beautiful French accent but I couldn’t replicate how he said it for the life of me! 😆 It was very tangy and really nice to try between bouts of the very sweet strawberry jam.
Yes! I actually missed a few things I was going to comment on! I write my scripts in my head as I’m sort of doing other things, but I think I’m going to have to write them out and make sure I get everything.
I was … I walk so much when I’m over here, I definitely have a bigger appetite. Though, I didn’t finish all the desserts. Had to take the leftovers home. 👍🏼
This hotel likes to cut corners. Stainless steel flatware instead of silverplate! Stainless steel belongs in a hospital. Silverplate belongs in a luxury hotel.
Lovely afternoon tea ! Scones are my fav ❤️
Happy birthday! What a fancy tea.
D, it was so posh!!! Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Amazing
What a lovely atmosphere in which to indulge oneself in a elegant tea! Everything looked absolutely delicious. 😊
It was pretty perfect.
looking very nice.
It is neat to see your story of this place come to life. Looks delicious.
It was a real experience!

Haha! Bump up those views!
I could already taste that clotted cream but having that first bite *chef’s kiss*

That was a nice birthday cake 😋👍
Maybe the best one I’ve ever had ♥️
Bespoke Tea blends sound amazing! Also, I love the candy striped China they use!
I was so tempted to try the blends but I’m not sad - the Darjeeling was top notch. 👍🏼

@@britainonabudget it's never to early for tea and cake that's for sure 😁😁😁
Just as I always thought, Dara and Ian are wonderful people 😊
Haha, just saw this comment! Cheers Eric 😉

Definitely should be jam first on the scone!
I rarely get rhubarb jam, but, same as my crumble obsession, I am obsessed with rhubarb jam!
I’m eating so much rhubarb while I’m here!
Glad to see you got the scone right in the end 😉👍
Hah!

Good to know!
Waaay too much sweet stuff. I would like to try the peach mousse, though.
I agree. I prefer a tea that includes more than just sandwiches. A nice cheese scone at least.
@@britainonabudget Maybe only one sweet for me (if they let you have only one) but I like the sandwiches!

even budget travelers should splurge once in a while! but when received as a gift, that’s even better!
we’re with you - team Devon-style!
I agree! I always treat myself a little bit ... and Afternoon Tea is a great way to splurge.

How much was tea?
I believe it was £65 when I was there two years ago. Looks like it now costs £75
It had to be all four, wouldn't have been much of a review otherwise, which one did you like the best😋
I liked the apricot and pistachio choux best. Not surprising, as I love both flavors.
You didn’t mention in the video, but the coronation chicken was your favourite sandwich filling, right?
Yes! I actually missed a few things I was going to comment on! I write my scripts in my head as I’m sort of doing other things, but I think I’m going to have to write them out and make sure I get everything.

What a wonderful gift for you, Happy Birthday 🎂 ❤ 🥳 is it in September or October
Early October. But we’ve started the party early!

For the record, Ian gets all the credit for the afternoon tea! He chose it, he researched it, he made the reservation!💖
I felt weird thanking just him, but I knew he did the bulk of it and I adore him forever for this treat!
Who's this person you speak of at the beginning 🤔😎😉
Am I that predictable 😇
And Yes I did 🤣
