THANK YOU LARRY!!! This video just saved me a world of further frustration. Let me tell you I was riding today ('82 kz750) when my clutch lever went fully slack and bike lost power to the wheels. I assumed the clutch cable snapped (maybe somewhere under the cover, because no break was visible by the lever?). I watched some youtube videos from the side of the road to see if/how I could ride back with no clutch, but even when I dropped it into 1st gear like everyone says I got no power. So I pushed the bike 2 miles home, pulled out the Kawasaki Manual, followed the clutch adjustment directions, and still nothing. More youtubing/forums and I found your very excellent video explaining where I went wrong. The manual instructions are as follow: "Turn the adjusting screw until it becomes hard to turn. Back out the screw 1/2 turn from that point..." This was the problem, I assumed "turn" means tighten/turn right, and "back out" means turn left/loosen, but your video clarified this error @4:18. Such a simple, needless mistake, but sometimes you just need someone more experienced around to point it out. Thank you very much for taking the time to spread your knowledge to total strangers, it's greatly appreciated. At the very least I owe you a beer!

I noticed the pic you showed is from a KZ1000-P! I laughed my ass off, because I was a little worried you were talking about a Z1 MkII, when I'm having issues burning out the clutch on a KZ1000-P. I just changed the clutch in November. Then on Thursday I changed it again with a higher end one and it's starting to slip a little bit (didn't slip on Friday and Saturday but it just slipped a LITTLE BIT tonight).

Thank you. Your video helped me to get my non-working clutch to work. The drawings really helped. I have a 1987 KZ1000P.

See this dont work for my kz 1000 1980 ... I turn the screw right it gets tight left gets loose and the oval lip goes inward to the point the outer oval don’t go over it nomore to grab and spin when pulled from the lever . So I turn the screw to the right all the way backed out to the left 1/4 the ovals were able to go in and clutch pulled fine . Other way was making it even looser even adjusting cables all the way out it wasn’t working the way you explained idk ?? Was not spinning it. Other way worked then I adjusted cables like that said and nice better then before tbh

Totally agree. My 76 900 Screw turns to the “Right” facing the engine. If I keep turning to the “Left,” I would never get the oval cover plate back on.

Very helpful. I am having an issue through; after adjusting this way, it's as if the more I ride, the less the lever works; it engages near end of the lever pull up til the point the lever doesn't do anything. Then, proper adjustment has no effect, and no amount of adjusting allows enough play on the control rod. What gives?

Does this apply to the kz650 as well?
