As an American, I don't blame China one bit for that. We're a service economy that imports virtually all manufactured goods and a lot of supplies. So why would ANY of our politicians think we can get away with acting like this? Just making stuff more expensive for consumers won't bring manufacturing back to the US. You'd have to actually give businesses REAL reasons to do so, and build the proper supply lines, factories, etc., and that would take YEARS at least. But no, we had to get stupid. And we're all gonna pay. At least us little people are. I don't know how the billionaires will fare.

If China were to completely ban exports to the United States, it would have significant economic repercussions, but it is unlikely to result in the outright collapse of the U.S. economy. Given the uncertain economic conditions and heightened global tensions, I'm considering investing over $800k in stocks. However, I'm uncertain about how to minimise potential risks.

330 million Americans versus 9 billion other people in the world who are rapidly increasing their trade, output, productivity and standards of living. China can let the US market go and easily replace it with African, SE Asian and Middle Eastern trade. Heck, even South America is tired of America's bullying and hegemonic insanity. If every export coming from China would stop, store shelves would be bare in most US stores in 90 days and you'd have to hit the black market to buy a household appliance or toys for the kiddos. Just grow up and learn to live in a multipolar world, America, or starve.

Foreign direct investment has all but completely dried up. Most manufacturing of foreign products has already moved out of China in part or totally. Nobody can trust the Chinese government to their supply chain, they proved that during Covid, and businesses that were affected - had to find other ways, if China was not producing. This all has caused massive unemployment across the board, of course China doesn't report it properly or accurately, but people in their 20's are struggling. No work to find. Many businesses continue to fail. People just don't have money to spend on shops and restaurants. Even fish in the wet market, a symbol for the rest of the Chinese economy - people can't afford to pay for live fish, so they wait around to pick up the dead fish at a discount. People holding off on leasing a shop, even though the rent has dropped massively. They predict it will drop further. Then buy, after...

What is interesting is that the 50 year agreement between the US and OPEC where only US dollars could be used to buy OPEC crude has now expired and has not been renewed. This means OPEC nations are now free to trade in a basket of currencies if they so wished, and many are very interested in doing so for a number of reasons.
Even the US strongest ally within the Arabic world Saudi Arabia is looking to dedollarize their crude sales to some extent for a number of reasons.
One, they are tired of seeing the value aka purchasing power of their dollar holding declining year after year. Donald Trump has stated that he believes the US dollar to be overvalued and may seek means to devalue it on the world currency martkets. As Saudi Arabia's dollar holdings are around USD500 Billion, any further devaluation of the dollar would hurt the nation extensively.
Two is the ongoing Israeli conflicts in Lebanon and Palestine, namely in Gaza and the US's unwavering support of Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu. Even though the US has spoken out numerous times against Israel's actions in both Gaza and Lebanon, it's seen little more than lip service by many in the Saudi Arabia as US arms shipment to Israel really haven't slowed down.
Three is the US's stated goal of disintangling itself from the Middle East in order to focus more on Africa and South East Asia. Part of the US plan was for the normalization of relationships between Saudi Arabia and Israel, allowing the US to leave policing of the region to those two allies. However the ongoing Israeli conflicts in the region have caused Saudi Arabia to reconsider and hold off on normalization with Israel.
As the US tries to pull away from the Middle East, China is making economic, political and even limit military moves into the region. China has also become Saudi Arabia main buyer of its oil exports and largest trade partner.
Four is Saudi Arabia's stated goal of diversifying its economy from being solely reliant on oil exports. To this end is seeking to closen its ties with China in order to realize those diversification goals but tapping into Chinese expertise, investment, raw material and tools.
Both China and Saudi Arabia are currently in talk to create a bilaterial trade agreement much like China already has had with Australia since 2015, where they conduct trade between each other using each other currency, and forego using the US dollar as an intermediary.
Other OPEC nations are exploring opening up their markets or signing bilateral trade agreements with entities such as China, BRICS, and the EU. As more of these agreements come into play, the demand for US dollars will decline and the US hegemony will come to an end. It will not happen overnight, but it is going to happen, as it is happening now.
Oddly enough, Trump playing hardball and threatening both allies and adversaries is more likely to excellerate the change over instead of slowing it down or stopping it. The change is going to be painful for everyone, however it could be very well fatal for the US economy and nation.

Yes, Huawei is planning to design and manufacture 3nm chips to compete with other smartphone companies and Apple. Huawei is building a semiconductor equipment research and development center in Shanghai to help with this, including: Navigating US export controls, Strengthening its chip supply chain, and Developing photolithography machines.
Here are some other details about Huawei's 3nm chip plans:
Huawei and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) plan to use patented self-aligned quadruple patterning (SAQP) lithography methods to produce 3nm chips.
The cost of producing 3nm chips will be high, making them not feasible for commercial devices.
The chips can be used in supercomputers or military equipment.
The 3 nm MBCFET process technology offers 16% higher transistor density, 23% higher performance, or 45% lower power draw compared to a 5 nm process technology.
SAQP involves repeatedly etching lines on silicon wafers to increase transistor density, reduce power consumption, and enhance performance

Which attitude? That currency manipulation is prohibited by the WTO. If China wasn't manipulating its currency, why have they still not floated it and allowed it to trade at market rate against all major currencies globally? It's been 25 years since they committed to do just that. That broad subsidies are not allowed by the WTO, yet China uses all kinds of subsidies to make their exports below cost, and kill foreign competition. That is economic warfare, not trade. Our attitude is that China should trade by the same rules as everyone else in the WTO. No special dispensation for China. We have tolerated it for 25 years because it hasn't been significant. But they just keep making matters worse. Nothing seems to be enough. Today they ship $4 to the US for every dollar they buy from the US. Usually raw materials in exchange for finished products. China also is supposed to have transparency, just like all WTO countries - yet auditors can't work in China if they aren't Chinese nationals. Why would that be? It's not as if we can't find out what they are doing, they just make it difficult.

I don't understand why we, the U.S., don't simply ban foreign ownership and supply of food production and supply of products necessary for national security. China holds large interests in American food production. Once upon a time, the U.S. was the preeminent manufacturer of computer chips. We need to bring the electronics manufacturing home and force the sale of -- or seize, if need be -- all agricultural and food processing holdings so that they are owned and controlled by Americans. I would also like to see these holdings limited in such a way as to prevent control of the food supply from falling into the hands of multi-billion-dollar corporations or individuals, such as Bill Gates. Too few people hold the health, welfare, and safety of the masses in their hands. Change is in order.

China slaps you in the face for 25 years manipulating currency when they promised to let it trade at market rate and be fully convertible. They kick you repeatedly with targeted industries from clothing, textiles, furniture in the early 2000's, and today with EVs - all subsidized heavily to make them extremely cheap, in order to decimate foreign car makers. They constantly poke you in the eye consistently by violating every single agreement to which they are a party. They want the entire ocean for hundreds of miles beyond what they are lawfully permitted. So they illegally built dozens of islands on reefs, claimed they were always islands and part of their border, which reclaimed land is NOT part of the border per that treaty. Literally no agreement ever fulfilled. Lip service at best. But the "bully" is the US for finally taking action to stop lawless behavior by China?
