Happy Easter Monday! Many thanks to you, Raelan. You give us so many wonderful resources. I will definitely put this book on my reading list. I just want you to know that I have been walking for 5 weeks now because of your inspiration and encouragement. If I hadn't come across your channel, I am quite certain I would not be doing this. I have been gradually increasing the length of time I walk each week. I have has CFS for just over 10 years now, and every previous attempt would result in a severe crash. My body would become easily overwhelmed by the external stimuli when walking outside. I'm sure you can understand how significant this is at this time. I am gaining more and more understanding of the importance of movement while listening to my body at the same time. Sending love & best wishes from Canada.💕
Bobbie! This is so amazing. I've got goosebumps thinking about how great it is that you have been able to gradually increase your walking!!! I'm SO happy for you, this is massive. Sending love to you in Canada! Say hi to my dad for me ;) 🇨🇦💖
After posting this video I noticed that Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride changed the name of her book from 'Gut and Psychology Syndrome' to 'Gut and Physiology Syndrome.' It appears to be the same book, just with a slightly different name and cover.
hi :) It's not the same book, she wrote Gut and Physiology Syndrome to explain how to heal the physical symptoms (the first book it's about the psychological part). The diet is the same, there are some changes in the recipes, but the theoretical part is different. I would suggest to read both, if interested in the diet. I've already read Gut and Psychology Syndrome and I'm now reading Gut and Physiology Syndrome.
2 similar book (yellow and blue) but focuses on different ailments. I have both but you can just get the one that focuses on the symptoms you are experiencing. The blues book is the most recent and updated.
Stress and trauma caused my chronic fatigue and elevated anxiety to the point I was literally sick vomiting, could not get out of bed, and sleeping an insane amount of time. Glad I gound your channel there is not much out there on recovery.
Thanks as always for more useful content Raelan. The GAPS diet sounds very similar to Dr. William Davis' grain free ("wheat belly") diet. Davis is also an advocate of incorporating fermented foods into the daily diet. That is at least one item that many of the diet gurus tend to agree on. Using probiotics for MECFS recovery is also supported by scientific study. One 2010 study titled "Gut Inflammation in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" had several interesting insights. One relevant quotation from the study is " the administration of probiotics could alter the gut microbiota, improve mucosal barrier function, decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines, and have the potential to positively influence mood in patients where both emotional symptoms and inflammatory immune signals are elevated. Probiotics also have the potential to improve gut motility, which is dysfunctional in many CFS patients." Yes, it is an academic study and written as such. So much for plain English. Here is one other quote from a 2016 study at Cornell University: "Our work demonstrates that the gut bacterial microbiome in chronic fatigue syndrome patients isn't normal, perhaps leading to gastrointestinal and inflammatory symptoms in victims of the disease," said Maureen Hanson, the Liberty Hyde Bailey Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell and the paper's senior author. "Furthermore, our detection of a biological abnormality provides further evidence against the ridiculous concept that the disease is psychological in origin." If anyone wants to see these studies just google "gut inflammation chronic fatigue syndrome." Interesting stuff. And by the way Raelan - your apartment is so neat it makes me nervous. Very nervous.
Wow, this is fascinating! Thanks so much for taking the time to share this and I'm looking forward to checking these articles out. Although I'm sure they exist, I've yet to come across someone stating that fermented foods are bad for you. They've definitely been a life saver for me. Hahaha and my apartment isn't always this neat! There is a quick clean up that happens prior to recording 😅 Although I do mostly keep things pretty close to this. I used to do something I called 'chair therapy' where I'd see how long I could handle a kitchen chair being out of place. When my environment is orderly my mind feels orderly! (And clearly I don't have children 😉)
Meat Stock (is what Dr. Natasha actually recommends in the early stages,) not Bone Broth (which is recommended once you are on the full gaps diet) Thought I would help to clarify that the 2 are not the same :)
Not all explanatory videos r as good as this one! Ur a very bright lady, and I sure do wish that u would make MORE future videos sharing with us how well/ or not the GAPS has been working out for u.💚🍎💚
Perfect timing! I ordered this book yesterday after seeing it repeatedly crop up over the last couple of weeks. I think I first encountered it via a podcast with Mary Ruddick, who's a really fascinating person to listen to re: diet if you haven't come across her before. Thanks for the video!
Do u have the MTHFR snip in ur genes? I do. And I have many GI issues/ imbalances that stem to mal absorption. There certainly would be a link attachment I suspect….. to CFS and all the others. Anyone agree?
Raelan -- I went to Dr. Ornish's website and took a look around trying to find something on ME/CFS. It appeared to be mostly aimed at heart issues. Does the book include other chronic conditions - such as ME/CFS? Maybe I missed something ... :/
You are correct, this is not a book specifically written for ME/CFS. In my experience, the books that helped me the most with my ME/CFS recovery were not written for/specifically targeting this condition. Undo It was helpful for me because it was about how to support your body's healing mechanisms and equip it to overcome illness in general. 😊
Jeff Eradus thanks so much for taking a moment to share a bit of your experience, I have no doubt that others will appreciate it. And I'm wishing you all the best with your own recovery 🌟
If you're getting histamine reactions, your gut is not ready for the load of probiotics you're giving it. You're basicay "overdosing" your gut! Give it time. If you do, you can slowly I troduce the ferments. VERY SLOWLY. I would definitely recommend reading the GAPS book because it can help you through the process step by step. All the best on your journey! 💕
I tried this diet for a short period and it is the worse diet I ever tried, my body was screaming for minerals, the food was not tasty at all, and it did not even help with my bloating, cfs symtomps was stable though. I would not advice anyone to try it by themselves., get dietiecian advice.
This video is misleading and wrong in so many places as regards GAPS Intro and GAPS Full diets. Its hard to believe you read the yellow book at all. It’s very frustrating the videos like this are on UA-cam, I hope people will do their own research and homework before starting any type or stage of GAPS diets and not make the mistake I did wasting a month following the wrong advice put out in videos like this one. Also the book with the blue cover is different. It’s best to read them both, commonly referred to in the gaps community as the yellow book and the blue book. The yellow book was written in 2004 but updated I think in 2018 and it’s better to get the more recent version

Wow Vinnie what great timing! And I'm not aware of her, I will have to check her out. 😊 Thanks!
Thank you for sharing, this sounds a lot like the Wahl's Protocol but not as strict. Worth looking into and possibly doing a video on as well Realan.
I will check it out!
Great video, for me healing my gut definitely helped. 🙌😃
It's a game-changer isn't it Donna? 😀

Hi Maria, this one is new to me! I'd love to learn more.
Hii mam Can i use probiotic supplement?
They never seemed to help me much, but others report that they have had success with them 😊

If I eat fermented foods I get very high histamine Reactions

@@fionawe9609 Thank you very much the gaps book I have now ready to heal
Another thought- do u have the MTHFR snip in ur genes also?
I do. Wonder what the connection to all this could be…. Hummmmm
So did it help your symptoms?

I'm so sorry you had this experience Emeraude, but this is helpful to hear. Thank you for sharing!
Its normal to deal with "die off" symptoms in first month it can help to seek help from a gaps practioner to help you go through it
You did it wrong
Meat broth **
