Last year we had a freak storm that destroyed the greenhouse and all the tomato plants i just had planted in there. I switched to those mini bush tomatos ( yellow, red, black, purple, orange) and you have also different kinds of the normal tomatos but then mini like roma mini tomatos) and i put over 40 plants because my reasoning: small plants do not bring that much fruit/produce. Oh boy was i wrong. Excellent taste, most of them went in the deep freezer as tomato juice to be used later in soups and other things. On top of that i gave 2 full grocers bags of mini tomatos to friends of mine.
This year, i mixed it up. Thanks for the tip with the electric toothbrush. I have an old one laying around! I am going to repeat some comments : this is the BEST channel on youtube

@@car5on777 flower to flower implies the plant puts off both male and female flowers seperatly. Requires you to take pollen from the male flower and put it on the female flower. Plants like tomatoes and peppers produce both female and male parts in one flower. The toothbrush vibration knocks the pollen off and it falls onto the female portion within that flower. Hope that's understandable.

I grew tomatoes in my kitchen window from shop tomatoes' seeds and they made tomatoes. Wasn't expecting much but they were fantastic. It was cold and north facing but they didn't care. No special equipment just a small pot and compost and a trickle of water when i washed out my glass. Any cool window is great for growing hot weather plants.
Indoors is very dry so many plants suffer from that the most. Just give it a go. Fruit and veg are usually free to experiment with and fun plants!

I have the large outdoor vegpod , love it, Ive got lettuce , kale , beetroot, spring onions, perpetual spinach and strawberry spinach , mini cabbage and cauliflower and will shortly plant some garlic. Everything looks lucious. I think I will have to save up for a kitchen pod now .

I have actually tried this out this season too but in a table top hydroponic set-up. I can't believe how prolific they have been just by themselves (my set-up has a fan built into the light so I haven't had to hand pollinate)! You're right they are very tasty as well. I am planning on making my own little hydro set-up to do a second batch to see if I can keep some through winter down here in VIC.

    Good day Mark!
I grew Orange hat tomatoes last year. They're great, and they're only a foot high. By the way,you have a precious kitty cat. Maybe she likes the smell of the plants!☺

We don't have space in the kitchen, but we have an awesome window in the mudroom! Might look into making a shelf there for a vegepod unit (we have an outdoor vegepod I use for sorrel, rocket and other leafy greens, grew some excellent silverbeet in it last year!)
    Hooroo from Tasmania!

Hey, have you thought about grafting tomatoes onto potato stalks? Any nightshades can be grafted onto potato stalks and have them growing underneath while the others grow above. In a smaller planter gem potatoes would be a nice fit!

I have the same Vegepod. I'm using it for year round lettuce now, but I would say a word of warning to potential purchasers. Because they are soil filled as opposed to the more common hydroponic kitchen planters, be prepared for some trial and error and failures. They aren't necessarily easy to get the hang of!. I was surprised it came with the sticky fungus gnat traps - until I had infestation after infestation which was only finally fixed by Gnat Barrier from Bunnings (a fine pebble). Getting the watering right can take some practice and you have to be diligent in getting out dead leaves or bits of the plants can rot. And finally, they are expensive, although very well made, and if you are getting one weigh up the cost plus the electricity against how much you are going to grow in it over time.

Yeah i would get one of these for 200 bucks max, seeing they were 350 on the site is a bit silly. You can get a gigantic birdies bed for that price

In the USA we use hydroponics. AeroGrow.....been using these for over 2 decades. Grow tomatoes, peppers, flowers, herbs. Almost no limit ... depending on the unit you buy. Different sizes for bigger crops.

We have that here ( in Aus) but i have been reluctant to buy as it's expensive. Are you happy with it?

    • @nebnorth1656
      @nebnorth1656 Місяць тому

They are definitely expensive (all of these systems are) but if you have Facebook marketplace, it's not too hard to find used ones.
They are probably the best hyprophonic systems in the market. Definitely well made and should last years. Also a lot of the compare detachable so easier to replace if something breaks. I have one, but don't use it as much since I have more space for pots now.

i grow in these earthboxes, the bottom watering has made watering so much easier for me and i do not overwater my plants anymore. best growth ive ever had. roots go down into the bottom and plants take water when they need.
