This video is so helpful. I was just at Best Buy looking to get Apple Car Play in my 2010 Lexus IS350. I wondered about the buttons along the info screen (Climate, Audio, Setup, etc.) and if they would still work. I also wondered about the backup camera. I was told there was no Apple Car Play unit that would fit my car. I would have to buy a whole new center console and then buy the Apple Car Play. We also talked about using the Lexus sound system and he told me that I would need something else to get that to work, otherwise I would just have cheap speakers. Not exactly sure what he meant by that. When it was all said and done, I was looking at close to $2,000. Now, after watching your video, I think I could do it myself and even if I couldn't, I could show your video to the installer so he would know what to do. The only thing that you did not address on your video is if the music plays through the Lexus speakers. Lexus has great speakers and I don't want to lose them.
They were right about replacing the whole head unit. There’s an aftermarket head unit that you can find on eBay and Amazon but it doesn’t work like OEM. However, with this Grom Vline system everything stays the same. All you do is adding this Apple CarPlay and Android Auto system to your head unit. As you can see in the video, your back up camera, radio, climate work as normal. I made another video about it and you can check it out. The sound go through the speakers, you don’t have to buy new speakers. I highly recommend to go with this system and have someone install it for you.
@@SlowWhipI think he was talking about losing the Mark Levinson amp. With all android aftermarket head units I’ve seen, you loose the ability to control all the speakers the car comes with and the sound is flat, not rich as intended

So technically the lexus cost me $8.5k. It's a real nice car. All black exterior and interior like yours. I already installed the vland taillights and vland headlights, takeda intake, roof spoiler, f-sport springs for a little better handling. The f-sport exhaust and sway bars are next. But going back to the navigation screen system its so outdated and does not go well inside the car. I will order this right now. Hope everything is well with you man

Hey I have a question. My is350 only has a radio and no gps. Do you think if I were to install an original gps system it’d keep all the same functionality?
You probably could do that but you’re gonna have to rewire everything so it’s probably better to buy an aftermarket head unit with CarPlay and Android Auto
Hey man, it is great unit to have apple car play but i have two issues. First , my steering wheel´s buttons for make a call and hang up a call do not work. Second when I put my transmission to R, camera works but after that when I put my transsmison back to P,N or D does not go back to grom but i will go straight to factory radio... No idea what can I do.
Honestly I never answer phone calls with the buttons from the steering wheels, I just use the touch screen so I’ll test that and let you know. And when I put the car on D after backing up, it goes straight to carplay so I don’t know why it’s not working. Check if you have a system update available because grom vline send out updates every month and if you don’t do it after a certain time the system starts acting up. I had to do one like 2 days after I installed mine.
Great vid good explination. Thank you. Do you think its better to use a grom interface, rather than replace the oem head unit for an aftermaket android screen
Thank you! I think adding grom to your unit is better. I heard these aftermarket Android screens don’t last long plus I don’t like how the look. And you have to remember that you have all your maintenance info, AC control etc on that OEM screen, you don’t wanna lose access to those.
@@laurynfromtheLAB You’re welcome. Yes you control it with the steering buttons just not Siri. However Siri is already on the screen so all you have to do is tap it, I use it all the time.
Ollie_I_FPV It did crash and freeze a few times the first week after I installed it. I contacted the guys from Grom and they sent me an update. Plus I figured out that I had to turn off Bluetooth phone and audio from the infotainment system. What happened was when someone call you, Both CarPlay and Bluetooth would ring at the same which confuse the system and make it crash. I have another video about it on the channel. I haven’t have any problems with it since I updated it and turn off Bluetooth from the infotainment system.
I have an 08 IS350 that has the Mark Levinson system. I'm considering upgrading as the stock is outdated. By upgrading to Android/Apple-Carplay, will that affect the Mark Levinson system and sounds?
Unfortunately you won’t be able to. The vline box is connected through USB connector. You have to unplug the USB connector to plug the vline box. However, vline has its own USB output for you to use.
The speakers sound the same and yes you can hook up subwoofers to the car head unit. There are a lot of people out there who installed subwoofers in these cars.
This one won’t fit 2013 model year because 2013 IS has the same power cable as 3rd gen IS which is 2014 and up. When you on their website to purchase, just enter the year of your car and they’ll send you the right unit for your 2013. Thank you 🙏🏽

@@SlowWhip Thanks for reply man, I've got lexus 220d and wondering how sound quality looks like when replace that panel. Is your original cd player still working? Ah, I forgot to add that my question is not about vline, just about the android panel which you have installed instead of original nav or radio panel. Cheers
I don’t really have any problems with it. If it’s acting up, go to settings and see if they have any software update. Vline send out software update every couple of months and the system will start acting up if you don’t update it. It happened to me a few times. Good job, man! Thanks for uploading the video! I’ve just bought the same head unit to replace my non nav media in my IS 250 (2011) and I’m going to order a vline unit. I guess I need to replace the amp as well, but I’m not sure if the system will work with it. My stock stereo system is Pioneer. Can you please say what amplifier (p/n) do you have installed in your car?
Thank you! You don’t need to replace the amp unless there’s something wrong it it. I’m still using my stock pioneer amp that the car came with. The system will work with the stock amp.
Audio quality is alright but it’s not the car, it’s Apple CarPlay. Carplay sound output is just trash. I used carplay in many cars and I experienced the same thing. There’s an aftermarket head unit you can replace it with but I don’t like it because it makes the interior look weird. However it has a lot more features than this. This is just to add CarPlay and android auto to your oem head unit. You can search for that head unit, you may like it.

Yes 2010 to 2012 have different wiring process. That’s because in 2010 Lexus upgraded the infotainment system and added Bluetooth audio. All you need from them is the wire harness for 2010 to 2012 because the actual grom vline unit is the same just different wire. Tell them that you just need the wires for 2010 and up. You don’t even need to talk to them, you can just go on website and buy your cable. Contact me on Instagram I’ll give you more info and part numbers.
What happens if you are using Google Maps on CarPlay and then you click the Climate button, then click back to the screen. Does it close Google Maps, or will the route still be active when you switch back to the screen? Thanks
Astrosuns You just have to click back on audio button to go back to CarPlay. It doesn’t close Google map or turn off your music. Your music will still be playing and google or Apple map route will be active.
Wadson Motoring thanks for replying I appreciate it. Do you use the wireless connection? How’s your experience with that, I had read mixed reviews of the wireless connectivity
Astrosuns You’re welcome! Yes I use wireless connection and it works great. Make sure to turn off your Bluetooth audio and phone from the infotainment system and let CarPlay do the job. I think that’s why some people are having problems with the system.

Do these guys make a kit for a 2007-2012 Lexus ES350 ?
I believe they do make them for ES with navigation. Check out their website
Does this work with the OEM backup camera?
Yes it does
Does backup camera still work?
Yes it does as normal
Great vid good explination. Thank you. Do you think its better to use a grom interface, rather than replace the oem head unit for an aftermaket android screen
Thank you! I think adding grom to your unit is better. I heard these aftermarket Android screens don’t last long plus I don’t like how the look. And you have to remember that you have all your maintenance info, AC control etc on that OEM screen, you don’t wanna lose access to those.
Can you tell me if it will work on my ( LEXUS IS220d)?
They have it for your car, just go to their website. It’s same model but different wires depend on the year of your car.
This is a Great Video! I just got a 2012 250 love it, but was wondering how to install CarPlay! GoodStuff.
Thank you 🙏🏽 congrats on your new ride
how much is this Vline device?
When I bought mine it was around $600 but they were having a sale so i paid $520. You can check their website.
Thanks for this, can you use the steering wheel buttons to control Siri and music changes?
Ahh just saw the music change option. I wonder if I can still take calls with the phone call Bluetooth since that audio quality is clear
@@laurynfromtheLAB You’re welcome. Yes you control it with the steering buttons just not Siri. However Siri is already on the screen so all you have to do is tap it, I use it all the time.
very good video 👍
Thank you!
Can I get this for a base model without a screen?
I’m not too sure but you can contact Grom Vline on their website
Reserve camera working?
Yes as normal
i assume the parking sensors still work with this unit
Yes the parking sensors and back up camera still work as normal
Are these good for is250s?
Yes 250 and 350
Does the reverse cam work?
Yes it does!
How have you found reliability of the system? Looks great, but I heard it sometimes can crash and freeze. How has it been for you?
Ollie_I_FPV It did crash and freeze a few times the first week after I installed it. I contacted the guys from Grom and they sent me an update. Plus I figured out that I had to turn off Bluetooth phone and audio from the infotainment system. What happened was when someone call you, Both CarPlay and Bluetooth would ring at the same which confuse the system and make it crash. I have another video about it on the channel. I haven’t have any problems with it since I updated it and turn off Bluetooth from the infotainment system.
@@SlowWhip turn off the bluetooth from the vl2 or the cell phone
@@reggyforest5299 Turn the head unit Bluetooth off. Or you can just disconnect your phone off the head unit and pair it with Vline only.
Can i use CalPlay via Bluetooth only without cable ?
You can use CarPlay via Bluetooth and cable. Whichever you prefer
Thank you for this. Maybe I can do it!
You’re welcome! It’s easy to do, it may look difficult but it isn’t.
Great video! I ordered mine three days ago, it should be coming later tonight. How has the unit held up?
Thank you 🙏🏽 I have it for almost a year now and it works perfectly fine.
I have an 08 IS350 that has the Mark Levinson system. I'm considering upgrading as the stock is outdated. By upgrading to Android/Apple-Carplay, will that affect the Mark Levinson system and sounds?
No it won’t! You’ll be just fine
I wish my IS came Mark Levinson lol
@@SlowWhip Great thanks for confirming
@@Unplugged704 no problem
getting an is-f next and this will be my first mod/ Great video man, keep up the good work
Rick Carroll Thank you 🙏🏽 it’s definitely a nice upgrade
Hey bro, after this upgrade, are you able to use that USB from the glove compartment to charge your phone?
Unfortunately you won’t be able to. The vline box is connected through USB connector. You have to unplug the USB connector to plug the vline box. However, vline has its own USB output for you to use.
Does it make the speakers sound better and could you also hook up subwoofers?
The speakers sound the same and yes you can hook up subwoofers to the car head unit. There are a lot of people out there who installed subwoofers in these cars.
Does this work on the Lexus IS F
Yes it does!
Will this fit a 2013? Great video bro!
This one won’t fit 2013 model year because 2013 IS has the same power cable as 3rd gen IS which is 2014 and up. When you on their website to purchase, just enter the year of your car and they’ll send you the right unit for your 2013. Thank you 🙏🏽
@@SlowWhip thank you, I'll check it out
You’re welcome!
great video👍🏿
Thank you 🙏🏽
Nice job showing the install. What do you think most shops would charge to put one in? Debating picking up a GS350 which I think would be similar.
Thank you! I wouldn’t be surprised if they charge you among $200 to $300 and the installation should be similar.
Hi buddy, cool video. How's the sound quality when you're using UA-cam?
Thank you! I actually never used UA-cam or any other streaming apps on this thing. I just use it for music, nav, and text. Sound quality is good overall but Lexus sound system isn’t that good unless you have Mark Levinson surround sound system.
@@SlowWhip Thanks for reply man, I've got lexus 220d and wondering how sound quality looks like when replace that panel. Is your original cd player still working? Some people say it might not, also when you use Bluetooth is the sound the same like from cd player? I'm just asking, cos I'm waiting for this thing to arrive from China and don't know what to expect. Thanks
Ah, I forgot to add that my question is not about vline, just about the android panel which you have installed instead of original nav or radio panel. Cheers
@@chomanch84 I’m sure the sound will be just as good. Do you have Mark Levinson or not?
@@SlowWhip Tanks for your answer, i think it's just a standard one.
does the reversing camera work w this screen?
Yes, as normal
my lexus IS250 doesn’t already have the navigation unit or backup camera how can I get this installed in mine?
I’m not sure how you do it without nav but you can contact Grom vline. They might be able to help you
Can you watch UA-cam on it?
Yes you can
Is there a link on how the app looks and rubs
Runs*
Hey wadson have you had any problems I have it and it’s just awful
I don’t really have any problems with it. If it’s acting up, go to settings and see if they have any software update. Vline send out software update every couple of months and the system will start acting up if you don’t update it. It happened to me a few times. You can contact Vline as well but I hate that they don’t have a phone number.
Good job brother
Thank you
Nice video bro...but 599$ for this unit is damn expensive
Thank you! Yeah it is expensive but I think they brought the price down to $450 now
@@kalva7865 they were having a group sale on Facebook. If you’re part of LEXUS IS FREAKS on Facebook you’ll get a discount. I don’t know if it’s still available. As long as you connect you phone to grom you’ll be fine. Just make sure you turn off your head unit Bluetooth. Your car come with Bluetooth and you won’t need it anymore so turn it off so you can use grom. All phone calls will go through android auto. If you don’t turn your head unit Bluetooth off, both android and your car will ring at the same time when someone call you.
My current factory unit stops working after a while and the response is slow as well. Do I need to change the complete unit or I can swap the internals to this? Thanks I’m advance
Taran Khetan Can you check if you have an update first? Mine was slow after I installed it but it has been working fine since I updated it. Go to settings and click software and firmware update to see if you need to do it.
Wadson Motoring since mine is in Japanese I’ll need to look at it with a translator. I’ll do that tomorrow and comment. Thanks again
Taran Khetan Okay! You’re welcome
Is this Grom with the 8.1 version?
Bearded Chris ISF It’s the newest version that they have.
Can I install this on my 2009 is250 without navigation system?
No you can’t unfortunately
@@SlowWhip thank you for the fast reply, keep up the good work fam👍🏾
@@donttrip2366 You’re welcome 🙏🏾🙌🏾
Was your screen touch prior to this device??
Yes it’s a touchscreen audio which makes it easier to use this device.
Awesome video!
Thank you!
Any improvement on audio quality? I’m debating on getting in cause I’m not sure if there’s a dash kit that can replace the stock nav on a 2011 350
Audio quality is alright but it’s not the car, it’s Apple CarPlay.
@@SlowWhip do you know which headunit is it? I’m honestly a car audio freak so I have to have crystal clear music lol
@@akatheunknown4310 lol I’m the same way.

What year model is your IS ? The 5th gen navigation has a higher resolution and was wondering if it would still look good on the 4th gen Nav (2006 and earlier).
This is a 2011 model year. I believe it has the 5th gen navigation.
How's your backup camera

Love the video I have a question . Friend of mine has a 2009 Lexus is250 n he has the vline he sold the car but kept it n wanted to give it to me. Will it work in my car. I’m only asking bc on the grom site they have one specifically for the 2010 model n mine is a 2010 is there a reason why?
Yes 2010 to 2012 have different wiring process. That’s because in 2010 Lexus upgraded the infotainment system and added Bluetooth audio. All you need from them is the wire harness for 2010 to 2012 because the actual grom vline unit is the same just different wire. Tell them that you just need the wires for 2010 and up. You don’t even need to talk to them, you can just go on website and buy your cable. Contact me on Instagram I’ll give you more info and part numbers.
Would I be able to order the wiring harness separate if I decided to take my friends vline?
Absolutely love your page by the way big bro you def inspire me to enhance my is250
Will do big bro thank you 🙏
Is it the av cable for back up and front view camera the one I need?
I don't know why but I love people who studder😂
