Really clever how you backtracked on your first turn to avoid the tail card activating, and instead drew into 2 front cards activating. I don't think anyone but you could have pulled that off! Haha!
Armor would not stop crystal spear damage as Armor only triggers and stops damage when an attack card is played (and crystals spears ability is not playing an attack card). Since the beginning You were using cards from the sword and shield character into the great bow deck. The art on the cards represent the character and the back has the symbol of the weapon they belong. They first card Jen played is “Surrounded” ethical belongs to S&S character

Considering the frankly insane price they're asking for ($170 core w/o shipping) and how blatantly it copies Monster Hunter, I really wonder if they should have tried to get the IP themselves? Or maybe they already did try, because I feel like more folks would be willing to sink that amount of cash if the knew the property.
42:39 According to the rulebook p.44 you compare the attrition value with the Stamina points (teardrop, bottom left of card) not the Stamina cost (diamond, top left) - in this instance they were both one so no issue. However at 52:29 the cost was 0 but the points was 2 so Jen would have legitimately stayed on. Just an fyi. Looks a cool game but too pricey for me. Thanks for the runthrough.
@rahdo 21:00 - you gained 2 stamina at the end of your turn. The armor card says you can accumulate 2 instead of 1, but to gain a second you need 3+ cards in your hand. I might be wrong..just from what it looks like on the card

I mean, they didn't have to put art on any of the cards, the board, the box, or the gear. That doesn't 'do' anything either. Everything could have been plain text on white and you'd get the same mechanics. But somehow the people that hate minis never seem to complain about that stuff...

That’s my opinion and you don’t have to share it. I won’t be backing for those reasons though. I also just spent 400 on the Nemsis Ks with Lockdown last year so not willing to spend the money on this in comparison that doesn’t really need them in my personal opinion.
I would love to jump forward a year and a half to find out how well-written the rule book is, because man am I tired of buying games with rule books that are obviously lacking.

I sure hope a huge chunk of the absurd asking price is going to the miniature artists or maybe they worked on this for 10 years or something. Who knows? I hear nothing but amazing things about Gloomhaven, but the overall quality is thoroughly unimpressive, and I don't trust the abnormal hype. I find it hard to believe it's THAT good.
I am not sure if it has shipping costs. I ( living in Greece, which is next to Italy for what matters) was not charged woth shipping. So maybe you want to check it out first , pressing "back the project" and see if it gets your final price higher
@@steve_gatsis Shipping costs get added in after the Kickstarter ends when they charge your account. You can bet on somewhere in the ballpark of 15-20 USD, and maybe even more because 1200 cards is going to be a HEAVY box. It's possible it might cost you less though, being so close.
This game looks so cool and I like the theme (big monster hunter fan) but like u said there is so much going on it seems really hard to remember everything. I'm really on the fence...
Any thoughts on this vs Monster Hunter World now that more playthroughs are available to watch? This is starting to look busier, more fiddly and because of overall heavier. MHW seems like a lot at first but after watching the 3 playthroughs currently available I can already follow all the steps and know what’s next. This seems like a lot more to remember, know or reference.
i haven't watched any MHW videos yet, so i can't say. as i understand it, both games are about taking down uber monsters with diceless card driven combat, so it'll come down to which game has the stronger card play, and also which fosters stronger co-op interaction between players :)
@@xChikyx it is also my favorite deck builder. I don’t think this game is anything like Aeon’s End other than the feeling of going up against a big bad boss. What this game does if give you the physical representation of that battle. I like the concept, but with the price point it looks like a huge cash grab by dangling beautifully detailed minis in front of the buyer. I’m a little burnt out on the cash grab by creators.
I would say on the surface yes, but the card play in this game is completely different and even the equipment cards have more depth. This game overall has more depth in gameplay and a little lighter on the upkeep side. Also the reaction system is really unique. It's really cool and different
@@jhowd78 Sadly this game doesn't even come close to the depth and thematic gameplay of KDM. After a couple gameplays of Primal, it actually gets pretty damn boring and with the pricetag they put on it for a cardgame is a joke.

The cqmp part is waaay lighter in primal from what I've experienced. Noone can beat KDM in that category. To me KDM is honestly the most thematic game I've played, but I wouldn't directly try to compare the two. Just by having the robust expedition mode, they aren't trying to "beat" them at their game. Its just different and the card plays out more thematic than you think

I have not played kingdom death but just the board alone makes it completely different. What makes it a clone? The fact that its a boss battler. KDM is the first board game boss battler but other games were bound to do it at some point. Even if KDM didn't exist these games would have come out eventually.

But after watching this video, I am so disappointed in the game complexity. Oh I forgot; whoops I did not do that; uh oh, I did not use that rule; wait, I have to redo that; oh ya, that term can do that, or that, or that. What a mish-mash of fiddly rules and if/and/or exceptions. It's like if a game mated with flow chart made by Sheldon. If I showed this to the potential friends I was planning to play this with, they'd either run away screaming or start crying.

this was a particularly brutal playthrough, mistake-wise. really hard to evaluate the game when you need to rewind constantly.

If it's successful(which it looks like it is, already 1,4 million) it'll probably have a 2nd KS after the 1st delivers with more expansion.
