- Flying with Big Ern | Flying the B737-8Max, Airline Pilot Life 2021! In this video we finally get to fly the Boeing 737-8Max! I’ll go over some of the major differences between the B737-8Max and the B737NG. We only flew it one leg but it was a great experience and I can’t wait to fly it again. This trip was only a three leg turn, but a great day to fly.
Hope you all enjoy it. Cheers!

If you dislike your a disgrace, this guy puts so much effort into his videos to all us aviation geeks
No he doesn't 🙄
@@1biggun712 if you watch for 30 Seconds you can tell
@@1biggun712 what makes you think that? Not trying to argue, but understand your view. I’d say yes he does, given that he consistently edits and puts out videos in a good format, I’d say he puts forth quite a bit of effort, and we can at least appreciate that.
*You're
@@mgtowacademy8433 By the fact he goes through those efforts when nothing is clickbait titles or for money because he’s literally a SWA pilot
Ern thanks for keeping these videos going. It’s refreshing to come across a pilot channel where the pilot is humble, takes time to explain and show us around without throwing the “I’m a pilot” thing in our faces with their aviator shades and cringey topics. Anyway rant over, keep doing good work man, would love to fly with you one day
Yes, there are some real embarrassments to the profession (Garrett, Patrick etc) I find Big Ern’s videos relaxing and interesting to see a day in the life of someone who works for an another airline/different aircraft
😁 thanks Jamian! I really appreciate the feedback. And I hope to fly with you as well my friend. Cheers!
Unfortunately he is a Boeing guy! Jokes humble and loves aviation.
Big Ern I spent 20 years as a Mechanical Engineer delivering VVIP and Head of State Aircraft, pandemic crushed that Industry a few years ago so I had to change paths. None the less these videos still put a big grin on my face. Love them!
0:15 No paper here!
5:41 ops...
Big Ern...Your smile and laughter are contagious. I really enjoy that you are always cheerful and able to laugh about most things. Sometimes i take life too seriously. I need to adopt more Big Ern qualities in my life.
Thanks Squawk VFR, I appreciate the compliment. I do have to admit I was pretty uptight in my younger days of grinding. Took having 3 girls to mellow me out😁. I’m such a softy now😂. Cheers!
Yes!! I love Fridays just because Ern uploads!
I was 100% against boarding this aircraft..... in one of your videos you said you would put your own family on it. After that I did a bit of my own research and now I agree. this will be one of the safest planes of the modern era.
Happy to hear that Will! Cheers!
Congrats on such a great upgrade! Those screens are absolutely stunning!
Thanks for your hard work Ern ! Please keep them coming ! Cheers from 🇧🇷
Love the vids man. It's awesome that you got to fly the max!
Amazing and very beautiful aircraft! Another amazing video Big Ern! Very Inspirational👍🏾
Excited for the incoming Cancun trip! Glad you were back in the max for this one, also. Cheers!
Such a beautiful aircraft. Very happy to see them back in service.
Really enjoy your videos and POSITIVE attitude. Thanks
This guy is a cool dude.. much respect!
Thank You Ern for another great video on the MAX. The engines and the blades are incredible to look at. I look forward to flying on the MAX-7 in the future when they become online.
We been waiting on this ❤️😭

It really does Louis! Very nice ride👍🏽
...now why does a new Big Ern video...make me want to fly along ...with a really big smile..thanks again for sharing, Ern..and for making our day..
.
Appreciate that LR! Cheers!
Enjoyed getting to see the Max, thanks Ern!
Awesome that you got a MAX! I went and saw the first at my airport, so quiet. Heard the delta crj takeoff then realized the max was rolling🤣 Thanks!
Awesome video!! Super interesting to see how these aircraft work in so much detail.
great video as always Ern! It’s really enjoyable to watch what you do as a First Officer since that’s what i’m going to be in about 2 years. looking forward to the next one!
Thank you! You’ll enjoy it. Greatest job in the airline! Cheers!
Love your videos man! I’ve been on vacation all week and been binge watching your videos. Love seeing how your work days go! My favorite is you explaining what’s going on in the IPad and setting up the plane! Can’t wait for more content! Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the feedback Benny! Happy to hear you enjoy the videos. Cheers!
This video right here..... is a Aviation Geeks fantasy 😍😍
Love your videos! I can’t wait to fly on the max!!
BIG ERN IN THE MAX! Love it!
You are a class act!
...many thanks again..our friend Ern.. for your in-person tour..of the return..of the New Mighty Max..
I love your videos! They make me super excited to get out on the line and fly, I’m about to start learning the CRJ at my first airline job. Hopefully you get some more 737 Max action soon! They are such cool planes.
Saw it on ur insta and couldn’t wait for this to drop
Another great video, thanks for the inspiration Ern!
Just came back from flying southwest. I also flew on the max. The pilots were very nice and even let us going into the cockpit.
Always wanted to be a commercial pilot... nice to see real perspective! Thanks!
N8715Q - 737-8 MAX - Working at the Renton Flightline I was on the tow team when we moved her from lakeside back into the factory and later weighed her in the paint booth in October 2017. Thank you for buying our airplane. I hope you love flying them as much I love building them.
What a gorgeous cockpit. Hopefully gonna get to fly them someday
Beautiful plane, keep up the good work. I Enjoy your Videos....
Good stuff as always 👍
Wow what a good video! This was one of my fav vids so far
Thanks Jack! Appreciate the feedback. Cheers!
Oh boy, rocking the MAX finally!!
It was so sad to see all the SWA Maxes sitting on the ground for so long, I think it was the Victorville "high desert" logistics airport (previously George AFB)
Definitely one of the best on UA-cam thank you Sir !!!
I appreciate that Mark! Cheers!
Love the clips. Helps with my X-Plane sim!
Really short and nice presentation of the Max
Thanks for the look around the Max Ern! The stance, although not overtly noticeable, is significantly taller to accommodate those new engines. Really cool. Also, hoping to have you on the flight deck if I ever catch a SWA out of Denver again!
Wow that cockpit is so nice and clean!! Awesome vid Captain😉👍
Cheers Matt!
That’s awesome!!! Great video and awesome content. That Max is very sleek...but clear second vs. the cirrus
😁. I do love flying the Cirrus! Cheers!
Looks so clean and nice
I was waiting for this video for a long time 😍 Pretty new aircraft I can smell it from here 🤭😂
Was very happy to show you guys. Glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers!
Thanks for the informative tour of the B737-8Max, Ern. I'll admit, I was one who wasn't too sure if I would fly on one. You've changed my mind. Keep up the great work on your videos!
I’m happy to hear that Debbie! When you do I hope you enjoy it. All the best!
@@FlyingwithBigErn Thanks, Ern!
I like how he explained the differences between the 737Max and traditional 737.
Hello Ern, finally the Max. The engine behind should look familiar.. Keep them coming have fun safe travels.👍
Love that engine Francis! Just looks so cool! Cheers!
One word: YES.
Another great video!
I love the MAX. Hopefully I could fly on it someday or fly it myself. 🙏👨✈️
Great to see you in the MAX. Looks like we were in Denver on the same day. We were on our way to Tampa. Thanks as always for the Jumpseat pass. All the best.
Hey Tony! Cool! Yeah I’m happy they’re back. Cheers!
Fantástic from Brazil.
Great videos!
It’s definitely more smooth. I noticed that on my first 737 max flight the takeoff was incredibly smooth
I need moreeeeeeeeeee. Great videos! Keep up the great content :D
I hope I get to fly it more too! Cheers!
Entertaining, informative and always the contagious smile. I got the Max and my hometown (Omaha) in same vid. Thanks for your excellent videos good sir keep it up!
Thanks Jason! I love the Omaha overnight. Super nice people there. Cheers!
I love the Boeing 737!!!
big ern! you're the best man!
😁 not without you my brother!👍🏽
All shiney and new
Hello Ern! Wow....quality time! Fantastic airplane 737 Max...
great cockpit screens...Lucky Pilots! Congrats Ern;)) Very
enjoyed....many thanks for your energy Ern! Have a lovely
weekend....send you warm greetings Betsy.
Always good to hear from you Betsy! Cheers!
@@FlyingwithBigErn Hi Ern....thanks for your kind reaction! My pleasure....Fly Safe and have a great week;)) X Betsy.
Informative. Thanks!
I just looked something’s up about the max. I’m not sure if I’m ready to get on it right now. Good video
Great 👍thanks so much 🙏
Glad you are back to fly that amazing plane 😃
Me too! It was fun. Only one leg in it, can’t wait to do more! Cheers!
You should get a waiver on showing flight-level stuff. You are SO good for aviation. Thanks.
looking forward to the new ideas. My first Flight instructor currently is 1st officer with SWA. He instructed me back in 2002. Got my CFII.
Did my RTS MAX training this week. Can't wait to fly it again. Great training and proper changes. Why did you guys have that notice 'no paper here' between the MAX CDU's?
Ern is so cool.
Hi,Ern , very nice look at the MAX, I had pictured it as a much different A/C, but othe than power and the glass 'pit, much the same. Glad you like flying it.
Pretty much Patrick. It handles very similar to an 800NG. Just a lot more quiet. Cheers!
Oh my Gawd😍 ✈️✈️✈️She is so FINE!!
The Leap Engine is certainly a lot quieter. The engine start takes a little getting used to. The company I work for for were one of the first 321NEO LR operators and we certainly operate them to their max. The fuel efficiency is very impressive as I’m sure it is on the 737 Max.
Great aircraft. Love the MAX. It's smooth, efficient, and quiet. Honestly, though, I don't like the position of the autobrake in the MAX haha. Engines look oversized for this plane lol. Still a great aircraft. I do hope at least a couple 737NGs are still with you all for the next few years! 😂 I also prefer the quicker engine start of the past models over the 3 minute engine start of the newer birds.
Congrats on becoming a captain, also.
Ouh waw that thing is big! And it looks so sleek too. Hope you get a lot of joy out of flying it.
And if you don'y mind, open up some of that feedstock for NG cargo conversions if you will.
It was really nice! Ha! Will do! Cheers!
Great videos Big E! I have a question that I’ve never got a straight answer on. What is the spiraled white marking on the center of the jet blades? Keep the videos comming my man!
Hey Jimmy! I believe it’s just a visual aid for a running engine. Most of our ground crew are wearing hearing protection so it might be hard to hear a running engine. Cheers!
Thanks for showing us the MAX. That panel is beautiful. Was there any additional training required to fly it? Excellent content as always. See you next week. Take care.
Thanks Reale! Yes we had additional training to include a simulator session. I feel very confident flying it. Plus it’s fun to fly👍🏽
When Big Ern flys to your station and I’m working in the next zone over.. 🤦🏻♂️🥲 Love the content, keep it up!
😁 All good my friend. I’ll be here for another 19 years👍🏽
Nice!
Love it
Love the max and the flight deck nice one!!!
Great vid! Hope one day I can experience a Max myself as a passenger, my scheduled flight home had an equipment swap 🤦♂️.
It is very quiet and comfortable. Cheers!
Thanks!
Also, does the max have any additional thrust than the -800?
How much more fuel efficient are the engines of the max? Love the content so much. Awesome vid Ern!
Check the ACARS post flight report @ 8:04. From "Off" to "On"(Wheels Off/Wheels on ground), it burned 6.5 or 6,500lbs. Almost 1hr 20 mins in air. That's about how much a 737-700 would burn, yet the MAX is carrying 175, instead of 143. Plus, the MAX's OEW is about 16,000lbs heavier than a -700NG.
Thanks Dax! It’s about 14 percent more efficient than the NG we are told. Love flying it! Cheers!
So cool man! Did you request to be certified on the max or was it assigned for you?
I love the MAX. Been on one five times in the last 10 days. The only thing I am not fond of is the engine start. Takes so much longer compared to the CFM56 family. But if I remember correctly it’s an automated start process so you don’t have to manually introduce fuel or keep an eye on EGT after it lights and intervene if it stays too high, the computer does it all for you. But that’s a long 5-6 minutes.
It does take longer to start. Also the cool down time is longer too. I’ve just adopted a slow approach to everything on it. Cheers!
The engines are so massive that the shafts can 'sag' especially when hot, so they motor the thing over for extended periods before and after operation to allow the shafts to find their original shape and run smoothly (concentrically). Common in other designs from other manufacturers as well. It seems a messy way to get to fuel efficiency, maybe hybrid aircraft will be the answer in the future.
@@BigBoy4005 Motoring, I forgot the term.
Hello BigErn....I guess why you should put some cameras in the side window of the cockpit and show us a little bit of the flight. It will be a fantastic. Is it a company regulagion?
Thanks for the videos and cheers from Brazil.
Hi Rogerio! Yes I wish I could. I am working on that though. Hopefully we can get a full flight to you someday. Cheers!
an overview of the max cockpit would be great if you ever get the chance, what procedures are different, where things have moved to.
Another question if you don't mind, how do you verify the apu is starting now they've removed the EGT gauge?
really great vid!
I’ll try and get that Lawrence! Thanks for the idea. We still get the blue light that the APU is up and ready. Cheers!
I don’t believe it, Ern be rollin’ up in the MAX, and hold on a sec, is that a PRINTER!!😀😀😂👍
Ha! It was a good day for sure😁. Cheers!
Hi sir! Was just curious...how often do you fly the special livery aircraft? And which is to favorite? (Other than the AZ one).
Another great video....good break from my 787 CBT, screens look very similar on your MAX! VSD CBT is soul destroying, does it work well? I often go from a CEO to NEO over a duty and really notice the change in noise, same on the MAX? Good to see they gave you a printer.....but don’t tell Greta!
Man I would love to fly that Dreamliner Ian! Have fun with that plane. Cheers!
I love that tie.
Max has leap engines from ge 800 900 series have cfm 56 apu exhaust is skinnier and Nose is 15 inches higher max class was cool for me a&p here nice video
Big Ern - great video as always! You mentioned that you haven't flown a 737-MAX for over a year - did you have to do any return-to-service training or sim training on the MCAS system?
I did Peter. It was CBT followed by classroom instruction and finally a simulator ride. Very good training. Cheers!
@@FlyingwithBigErn Appreciate the quick reply! Your videos are excellent - keep them coming so we can keep living an aviation life vicariously through you!
From flying the Emb145 the push to talk is the biggest thing I miss...
Really enjoyed the differences walk around. Got me thinking, what do you recommend for someone transitioning to their first transport category aircraft?
Hey Jason! Just read up as much as you can. When it’s time to hit the sim phase you’ll be ahead of the game. Good luck! Cheers!
Great to see your first max leg since the grounding !
Have you spotted any difference with a NG regarding the flying experience (noise in the cockpit / faster or easier set up ...) ?
It is quieter for sure. Longer start and cool down times but otherwise the same. Cheers!
