it would be good to know why we do the drills , how will it improve my swimming , why will it improve my swimming and what to expect after doing the drills after 4-6k per week for say 12 weeks ... thanks
I started doing drills and at first I caught others smirking at me and laughing. Every day I get in the pool at 9am and keep trying. Never give up. Now even the swim instructor tells me I’m improving and that she had been watching the whole time. I went from barely swimming doing doggy paddle to swimming proficiently underwater. Just keep practicing and never give up. I’m 32 and learned in 5 months
Bro this whole routine is good dude, am going to start doing these a lot, I can't believe how fast am progressing in swimming, if anyone is reading this, don't give up, build up endurance/super fast swimming/techniques just keep going hard, you'll get better. Although in the beginning it fucking sucks 👍💪
Honestly something i have always struggled with is endurance because i can do the techniques well (a lil hiccups every now and then) but i can't swim for that long at all.
It takes time to build up endurance, so stay consistent with your training! You might like our Improve Endurance training plan: myswimpro.com/blog/2017/10/22/8-week-swim-training-plan-to-improve-endurance/
Loved your explanation just makes me solidify I’m explaining correctly. Had a year off and now head coach of age group, so I remember things just not as sharp
@@FaresKsebati actually I have a question/your thoughts and theories. I don’t believe swimmers 17 and under have enough stamina and strength to not breathe after flags into the turn, so I never institute it, I allow one breathe after the flags but absolutely not before the turn. However I’m getting some flak on that from my head coach, even though I was supposed to be. What do you feel?
One year and six months return back to swimming after nearly 10+ years. Need to step up and learn flip turn and not stopping for 40 seconds. Overall, still heavy in body weight but don't care anymore in terms of feeling self-conscious. Now focus on arrival for my swim, aim for 10 to 20 lengths. Couple of back strokes and out. Early mornings 6.30am or 7.30am. Work from home has given me the time. Shame Wfh came about due to the pandemic. For some of us. However continue to stay positive and keep on swimming. Thanks MySwimPro. Sandie London UK.
These videos are really helpful, I have one arm (birth defect) and had two panic attacks in the pool on my first try - looking around at everyone who had a better technique than me. Keep them coming, encouragement welcomed and appreciated
Im an instructor & the kids LOVE “putting their rocks on” its a drill they finally understand about all-over propulsion (so they dont drink too much pool water) 🤙 i love this vid, TY!
Love this channel!! I like how in most of his videos he says how water is 800 times more dense than air to really ingrain in your head that you have to focus on technique to move smoothly thru the water.
I’ve been doing these with paddles and fins, and I think I’ve become dependent on the equipment. Need to do more without equipment to get a feel for the water and what I need to do to maintain the position and technique on my own, even if I do move more slowly at first.
This is a great video dude am new to this and I can do a lot of this stuff like 1 lap, I've kinda built up my endurance with the hours I put in the pool, so I can just kinda buy a lot with endurance and experience and not much technique, I gotta focus on technique though with that being said.
Its insane, today is Wednesday and here you are breaking down drills on Whiteboard Wednesday. I need more like this! Thank you! The way you set this entire video up and breaking down every little thing was insane.
Nice lecture, my problem now is how to restore my stremght after almost years i stop dwimming. My doctor told me to do the same but with precaution. Can you help me how. Thank so much. God bless u Edd c.

You are so great! Explaining everything so good! I ve done the 6 kick drill false for years! I never turned on my siede. On Monday I’ll try it correctly ! Thank you so much !
For the catch-up drill I sometimes have some sort of "a fight" to avoid the extended arm sinking while I am breathing. I know that I should move the head the minimum possible to breathe , and have the head already back inside the water when the other hand touches water... But still working on it, a bit difficult still to do it in a harmonic/natural way. I think I'm accostumed to "sinking the extended arm" on breathing, too early.
Glad you're aware of that and working on it, Daniel! Make sure you're rolling and extending the arm before starting your high elbow catch/early vertical forearm on the pull! Happy swimming 😃
Do we rest 20 secs between each section? I’ve never done any drills or swim workouts before- totally self taught (with few tips from observant swim friends) and usually I just get in and swim. Freestyle is my go to stroke and figured it be good to try to improve and do better? I also wear a nose clip- hope this is still ok? I have sensitive sinuses 😕
Yes! All these drills should have an active kick. One variation of the fist drill is not to kick at all - just pull, and that will focus more on the pull. I recommend trying it both ways.
Yes! I did an analysis on his world record in the 200m Butterfly, breaking Michael Phelps's mark! ua-cam.com/video/PlgFtO8J4pU/v-deo.html&feature=emb_title
can I swim exclusively with a snorkel for a good while? I am looking to get into swimming for general cardio and endurance, but the breathing scares me, and is putting me off, slightly
I feel a bit silly doing drills as no one else does them at the pool i go to and im not that fast of a swimmer so i feel a bit silly. But i want to start doing them as its meant to get you faster
"Beginner", man idk what I am then because I just started to learn how to hold my breath without plugging my nose like damn 😅 I'm sure it isn't so bad, but anyone have tips for breathing?
You wanna feel slow?? Try this drill. 25 fist, 25 normal, 25 paddles... repeat!!! The fists after paddles will feel stupid slow, but you'll figure out how to use those forearms!
I have been practicing sidekick with straight arm (or swordfish), on my weak side, but I'm constantly drifting over to either the ropes or the wall. How do I fix this???
A snorkel is a great addition to drills because it helps you focus on your technique rather than breathing! However, it is not necessary. Happy swimming! :)
The only drill here that is worth anything is the "Fist Drill". It is beneficial for the reasons stated. ALL the other drills are worthless or even harmful to an efficient stroke because they promote over gliding. As stated, water is 800 times more dense than air. So if there is ANY pause in your stroke, you will come to an abrupt stop. Distance per stroke is ONLY important when coupled with an appropriate stroke rate and should never be isolated.
Good points. Keep in mind that some beginner swimmers take 30-40 strokes over 25 meters. In this case, drills that promote complete rotation or pausing at the 'glide' will encourage increasing distance per stroke. For a stronger swimmer with solid mechanics, I agree, over-gliding is harmful to seeing improvement. What seems to be over-gliding to a more experienced swimmer is just what a beginner swimmer needs to become more efficient.
Hi Busra! Keep working on drills, as they as they foundation of your stroke, but try to go to the pool as often as possible. The more frequently you can get in the water, the easier it will be to increase your distance.

What should I do if that’s so complicated to repeat
I love that catch up drill. If you don't have a PVC pipe on-hand, you can also cut up a foam pool noodle and use that :)
That's a great idea! I'll do that today!

If it just says "freestyle" and not "drill", you just swim regularly!

At what point do you breathe during 3 strokes/6 kicks if you don't have a snorkel?
Good question - Breathe during the strokes! Keep your eyes toward the bottom of the pool and get on your side for the kicks :)
